24 Books I’d Love to Find Under the Tree on Christmas Day

I’m a bit under the weather right now with a nasty cold virus. You never realize how wonderful the ability to breathe through your nose is until it’s gone. I think what I really need most right now is to get into bed and stay there for a while…like 9-10 hours would work. lol

I hope you are staying well! Wash your hands a lot! Glad I got sick now and not two weeks from now!

24 Books I’d Love to Find Under the Tree on Christmas Day

I’ve been hoping to put together a list of suggestions for stocking stuffers. With Christmas just 12 days away and not a lot of shipping time left, I thought I’d share some of my favorite books, including those that are on my wish list. They would all make wonderful gifts for the man or woman who loves beautiful homes, decorating, cooking or gardening.

The ones I already have and love in this collection are: Nicky Haslam’s Folly de Grandeur, Winter House, Coming Home, An Affair With a House and One Man’s Folly. The rest are by authors I know and love, have great reviews and enticing previews.

The book, Kentucky: Historic Houses and Horse Farms of Bluegrass Country, actually has a chapter about Gainesway Farm, the farm/house whose porch was the inspiration for my front porch. I definitely need to add that one to my collection!

Click any picture below to read more about that particular book.

I’m hoping the Cooking for Jeffrey book by Ina Garten will be under my tree too!

So sorry you’re ill, Susan. Hurry and get well. Drink a hot toddy 🙂 maybe
and get rest. We need your Christmas cheer!

    Hi Susan,
Thanks so much for the book list. I definitely have some new books to add to my Christmas list. Take care of yourself. So sorry to hear you are under the weather. You are just too nice to be sick. Merry Christmas!

I am so sorry to hear you are not well, bummer! I will include you in my prayers for a 100% healing quickly. Those are some fabulous books on your list. TFS.

  5. So sorry you are under the weather. We always drink hot orange juice or hot lemonade, both with honey, for cold/sinus/nasal problems. Think it helps, tastes good, anyways! :). I would love one of Pat Brannings cookbooks….visually stunning and good recipes.

  6. You may want to get a sinus rinse. I have asthma and allergies and always had sinus infections and serious bronchitis until i started using the NeilMed sinus rinse..they also have the Netipot. Also mucinex is a Godsend. Anyway, i have not had a sinus infection or cold for 4 years….i still have to use my inhalers when allergens go nuts like a 3 mo ragweed season but i make sure if i am out in public to use my rinse as soon as possible after getting home. No antibiotics for as many years as i have used the rinse as well. Do not do it too close to bedtime because you may get drainage into the lungs if you do which is not helpful. Some doctors dont even realize how great this is. It rinses out everything like dust allergens and germs plus moisturizes the tissues and dry tissues which are a breeding ground for germs. Just a suggestion. Has made a significant difference in my life because of my age and susceptibility.
Guess what my husband and i are doing for each other for Christmas……….driving to Nashville and also on another trip to Knoxville to visit book stores and art galleries…buy what we want to prepare for the long cold winter ahead on the Plateau. So looking forward to it.

  7. I could move right into the cover of Patina Farm and then have Ina and Jeffrey make me some of her decadent chocolate brownies. You’ve been working wayyyy to hard. Rest up and feel better soon!

  8. Have you seen this year’s White House Ornament? You’ll love it! I ordered one and it wasn’t expensive, $21.

  9. Lots of great books here! Also My Stylish French Girlfriends, by Sharon Santoni.

  10. Susan, I hope you feel better soon, I have also had the same stuff! We share a love for books, and I have many of these. My all time favorite winter book is theWinter House by Charlotte Moss that is on your list!

  11. Susan, I hope you feel better soon! Cooking for Jeffrey is wonderful – I treated myself when it was released and, as usual, am never disappointed by Ina.

  12. Great list for Jan cozy. Thank you. I bought One Man’s Folly on your recommendation and love it.

  13. Nancy Corson says

I’ve been sick, too. Started with a sore throat and ended with a bad cough. Finally feeling better after two weeks of feeling rotten. Love coming to work and finding one of your emails. This year I bought each of my daughters-in-law the honey dispenser that you suggested a few weeks ago. I also bought each of them a biscuit pan, biscuit cutters, and honey for the dispenser. Hope they like their presents!

  14. Thanks for your book recommendations, Susan! So sorry you’re not feeling well. For nasal congestion and sinus issues, I really recommend a “Personal Steamer” that you can find at CVS. It sure beats standing over a pot of boiling water on the stove with a towel tented over your head (something my brother would always do for his sinus issues!). We swear by this little steamer in our family for head/sinus/stuffed nose issues! REST and feel better soon. Rosie

  15. Susan! Sorry you’re sick. I’m on my way to the dr. Same thing, hubby has it also. He went to his dr two days ago. Diagnosis…..virus. I’m using mucinex and Netti pot. Hope you are also.

Get well. Rest rest and more rest! The books look wonderful!!

  16. I would like any of those books also.I have one picked out at the book store I am going to purchase for myself on Vintage fashion

Get some moisture up for nose so you can breath better

  17. Feel better soon! Take care of yourself and read a couple of books over lemon or ginger tea, get some rest.
    Good advice, washing hands now…

  18. Rest and hydrate. Repeat. And occasionally, smash ornaments 😉

  19. Sorry to hear you are under the weather. Get some rest and take care of yourself…Maybe a little brandy mixed with your favorite hot tea;–)
Thanks for the great list of books. I have a few of these and plan on adding a few more to my library.

  20. I hope you get to feeling better very soon!

I ordered three books from your list…..can’t wait to get them and begin enjoying each and every page and picture!

Susan, so sorry to hear you’ve been sick. My son suffers from sinus issues and swears by the new nasal flushing machines. It’s not that awful nettipot thing. Clears him right up. I’ll ask him the name of it and let you know–maybe it will help if you catch another cold. Thanks for the new book list–they all look great. I have The Gentleman’s Farm, and it certainly depicts this fox hunt area where I live as well as VA. I’d be really happy to find a few more under the tree. Hugs!

  22. Please hurry and get well, Susan. I was sick for 3 weeks with sinus and bronchial virus. I just had to ride it out with cough medicine and ibuprofen since antibiotics are useless unless your illness is bacterial. Thank you for the book recommendations – if I could I would have each and every one. I do not have just one love affair with style – I love them all.

  23. Cyndi Raines says

Way behind in reading your blog – just lots to do now that we are going to speech therapy for hubby since his stroke. Sure hope you are feeling much better Susan! Thanks for the book list! Get LOTS of rest and drink lots of fluids so you don’t get dehydrated. God bless. Cyndi Raines (hugs to you)
