7 Ways To Decorate Your Home for Autumn & Halloween

How did it get to be October so quickly?! With fall here and Halloween just a few weeks away, how about a little inspiration for your autumn and Halloween decorating.

Thanks so much to Town and Country Magazine for sharing my Chinoiserie DIY pumpkin craft in their article titled, “Everyone is Turning Their Pumpkins Into Chinoiserie Pieces of Art.” Also, thanks to House Beautiful for sharing that project in their article titled, Chinoiserie Pumpkins Are the Way to a Truly Elegant Halloween.

Blue and White Pumpkin for the Guest Room

Did you know that Chinoiserie pumpkins were so popular this year? How did I miss out on that? I guess I was ahead of the trend (that never happens!) when I made my pumpkin back in October 2011, using the fabric in my guest room as inspiration.

Thanks these were wonderful fall ideas to look through and love the idea of decoupage. Hope your traveling is going well.

Congratulations, Susan, for your inclusion by Town & Country and House Beautiful. That’s wonderful. 😀 (please just don’t go all ‘Hollywood’ on us and start wearing sunglasses indoors and saying caio and ‘air kissing’ everyone on the cheeks. 😉 😛 )

These photos are all great for inspiration, as usual. I agree, how did it get to be October already? (remember when everybody was worried about Y2K? lol — was that really more then 15 years ago already?) But it’s glorious here. October is always THE prettiest month of the year, imo. Perfect weather, turning leaves, azure skies … perfect. *sigh*

I love that you were ahead of the trend on your chinoiserie pumpkin! And I love that your topiary pumpkins porch setting got featured! You’re a regular Martha Stewart. 😀

Ever since I saw those wonderful carved / resin ravens I have been keeping an eye out for something similar – to no avail. 🙁 Oh well. They always do really authenticate your Halloween decor.

Long shot here — that hurricane lamp you have on the wicker porch table — you don’t happen to remember where you got that, do you? I have been looking for pretty much that exact same thing, size and shape-wise and haven’t been able to find one.

So glad to see this post today. I know how busy you are getting ready for your next trip. Isn’t the cruise before Italy? Maybe I’m mixed up. Anyway, great post full of beautiful pictures. Thanks. 🙂

    • Hey Pam,
Thanks! I found the hurricane lamp at A Classy Flea several years ago. You could probably find one in a thrift type or antique store. Actually, now that I think about it, I’m pretty sure I’ve seen them on eBay in the past.

A Classy Flea! Oh that darn Classy Flea has so many cool things and I’m far too far away to shop there! Drat. Haha, oh well. Thanks for letting me know. I’ll check around. I do find the hurricanes, but not in that cute shape. I love the shape.

The autumn pictures are all so lovely. They just make me smile. Thanks. 🙂

Pam, give A Classy Flea a call and ask if they have what you are looking for. If they do, they will mail it to you. I did that when I saw something that I liked in a picture from one of Susan’s shopping trips there. They are very nice and helpful. I am sure they would send you pics if they have what you are hunting so you can see it.

Pam, contact A Classy Flea and ask if they have it. If they do, they can send you a pic and can mail it to you if it is what you want. I did this when I saw something I wanted in a pic Susan posted from their store. They are very nice.

  3. I absolutely LOVE your Chinoiserie pumpkin, Susan!! And your batty front porch really made me smile 🙂 You have so many great ideas…thanks for sharing.

Hi, Susan. So happy you were featured because you really deserve it…yippy!!! Your chinoiserie pumpkins are so beautiful and really add an elegant touch that goes so perfectly with classic style….love them! I remember the previous Halloween posts which are great, but then I haven’t seen anything you’ve posted that I haven’t loved…and I’m picky lol! Hugs.

  5. Congratulations on all the recent spotlights on your fall decor! Hope you fit in at least a bit of fall before you depart for next port.

  6. You ARE ON fire-ah!! Or, just really COOL!!! franki

  7. Susan, Just FYI Tonight I found a lovely red tartan plaid nickle plated, velvet lined box online at Pottery barn that would look lovely on your nightstand with your beautiful winter bedroom ensemble. It comes in two sizes 5.4 and 6 inch square each 2 inches deep. They are a bit pricey for my pockets but really pretty. Also, they are offering a 3 inch round red tartan Christmas Ornament for only $4.50. I forgot to write down all the new pieces but Williams Sonoma has some additional tartan pieces this year also. Sorry I forgot to write them all down to pass the information along but I noted some kitchen and room decor items that do match your bedding and pillow decor.
I’ve really enjoyed tour trip photos and I am looking forward to your Italy trip photos as well. Italy is my all time favorite. Happy travels.
    Sincerely, Norma

  8. Susan, your porch was also on House Beautiful a bit ago. I can’t remember the name of the article (something like 18 Great Front porches)…. fun to see!

  9. Congrats on the magazine love you deserve it!

  10. I covet the big white turkey.!…..

I found your website while looking for ideas on hanging wreaths from Windows. Brilliant! I need ideas on hanging garlands around a front door that has a storm door. I would like a reusable garland mount, but the ones I’ve found only are usable for doors without storm doors. My frame is made of wood and I have been using nails or could use command hooks, but would like something attractive and substantial. Any thoughts? Thank you.

    • I use nails, too…and just leave them in place all year. They aren’t that noticeable so that’s what I’ve used in the past. Garland, especially real garland, can be kind of heavy…so not sure what would work better than a nail. You may want to go to Amazon and search for “garland hanger” and see what pops up. Seems like whatever I need, I can find it on there. Wish I had a better answer for you, Marsha.

Thank you for your quick reply. I have tried Amazon with no success with my situation, but again thanks for the thought!
