Breakfast in a French Cafe

Welcome to the 21st Tablescape Tuesday!

A Scene from a French Cafe…

Speaking in a heavy French accent, you are greeted by your waiter, Jean Claude…who with a grand wave of his right arm, says, “Right this way Madame and Mademoiselle, I have your breakfast all ready and waiting for you.

Please excuse this napkin…I mean scarf, the boss is making me wear. She insists I coordinate with the tablescape…silliest thing I’ve ever heard.”

Breakfast for two…Quelle bonne idée !

Jean Claude

Creamware is Butler’s Pantry, Gourmet by Lenox; Fruit-patterned china is Melina by Villeroy & Boch.

Breakfast in a French Cafe

Que c’est délicieux!

Ahhh, yes…I would like to introduce my tablescape consultant, extraordinaire…Monsieur Ecureuil. The shutters in this little french cafe’ were wide open as I prepared this tablescape. Mr. Squirrel…uh…I mean Monsieur Ecureuil, sat and watched my every move to make sure I was doing a good job.

Jean Claude looks quite pleased with his table setting.

Found these “French” juice glasses at Williams-Sonoma many years ago…Parfait!

Love how the fruit design works with the Melina pattern.

“All happiness depends on a leisurely breakfast.” John Gunther

I love a layered look so I’m using both placemats and chargers in this breakfast setting.

(Lace chargers are from Horchow, online…purchased around a year ago.)

This was the first time I’ve ever used these egg cups.

Bon appétit!

Comme il est beau! Mais je te jure que c’est vrai!
(Translation: He is so handsome! But I swear, it’s true!)

Update: I’ve had quite a few folks asking where I found Jean Claude. He came from our local Home Depot Expo quite a few years ago.

I rushed over here on this “special day” to have breakfast with you. Jean Claude just winked at me. I think he’s hamming it up for us. My mother used to serve eggs in egg cups at breakfast when I was a little girl. I used to gag on them… but they sure looked cute on the breakfast table. Wonder whatever happened to those silver egg cups? I need to go “shake down” my sister. I’ll bet SHE knows where they are!
    Delightful post Ms Susan!
    love, Carol

SS, MAY I USE YOUR BLOG HERE to say that I "wish" EVERYONE had the kind of "set-up" you do (& most everyone else does)for LEAVING COMMENTS??? SOME of us are "COMPUTER CHALLENGED", & I am one~~~ FIIINALLY got a "google account" a while back, but can't remember/find the place where I wrote down that silly password, & efforts to "find" it myself, or thru computer, seems IMPOSSIBLE! (SOOOOO, a person, OK, "I", can spend alot of time writing to someone, only to get frustrated because, try as I might, I can't get it to PRINT it OUT!!! If ANYONE has THOUGHT of "changing over", it would be SOOO NICE if you did!!! I feel SOOO BADLY looking & not being able to say "yo!" (Grins!)~~~ THANKS for letting me say this here… I really appreciate it!!! (I don't want people thinking I'm RUDE or unappreciative of their work/efforts!!!)~~~ XOXOXO, Linda

  75. Grand Occasions says

Hi Susan, I’m so glad you stopped by to visit. I hadn’t seen a diaper cake until recently myself. Aren’t they cute? You can also make towel cakes for bridal showers, house warmings, etc. You just roll up diapers, towels, washcloths, etc. and put a rubber-band around them (the decorative ribbon around the cake hides the rubber-bands). You can add as many or as few things to it to embellish it as you wish. I’m hoping to get the knack of adding things to my blog and post more frequently. It was nice to meet you, please come visit me again.

  76. Nantucket Karen says
