Hi Everyone!
How is your weekend going? I’m doing non-fun but necessary stuff around the house…like changing an intake vent that has been buzzing, buzzing, buzzing. WOW…amazing how a little thing like that can make a big difference.
When they installed my new furnace/ac systems a few years ago…the vent started buzzing. I tried tightening the screws and then I tried loosening the screws. I even tried sticking a thick piece of paper under the edge…nothing worked. Finally, today I replaced it with a new one from Home Depot. I noticed the new one was was a lot thicker and more substantial. I’m happy to report…no more buzz! Yay!
Now why didn’t I do that a long time ago? Just wanted to share this in case you have upgraded your heating or air systems lately and have a loud buzzing intake vent. Don’t wait…it might be as easy as replacing the vent cover.

We had the same problem and the air conditioner guy climbed up and changed the till on each slat on the vent and it stopped our noise. Thought this might help if it happens on one of the other vents.
HI Susan, I ahve been busy with parties and a baby shower today. I am also trying to get organized for a b-day party we are having here for our new son-in-law and then Thanksgiving! Are you having a crwod for Thanksgiving this year or going somewhere? Have a great Sunday!!! XO, Pinky
Hi Susan, I have had that same issue and solved it with longer screws that have those jackets (senior moment) that go in first and then the screw goes into them? Gets the vent in tighter…no more wiggle noise…! Lisa
Isn't it funny how often we delay repairing or replacing the little, easy things but jump right in to do the big jobs?
OMG! I can so relate! We had to replace our upstairs unit that went out and had the same problem with one of the intake vents. We even had the AC Tech come back out to check it out. He tried pushing the vent up, and slightly bent it. Then he tried adding some weather stripping around the edge. NO help! Finally I noticed that the one in my sons room had the vents going in a different direction then the one that was making the noise. Luckily the covers were the same size, so we swapped them out and problem fixed. Needless to say the tech wasn't too happy that he didn't think of this first. LOL! It was too loud due to the direction the air flowed out of that one that was closest to air handler above it in the attic. I guess these newer systems need better vents too.
Maybe that's what was wrong with this one…maybe it was facing the wrong way. Ummm. After I took it down, I wasn't sure which way to put the new one up since I didn't really pay a lot of attention to how the other one had been facing…so I just guessed. I also noticed this new intake vent didn't have a middle support. It's open all the way across. That probably helps the air flow a lot, too. They sure are tempermental! LOL That is so interesting that you had the same problem. I voiced the concern before my tech guy left and he just shrugged his shoulders and made little attempt to fix it.
This brings back a funny memory. My neighbour at our previous house was hearing strange knocking noises when in the bathroom. This went on for quite a few days and she convinced her husband to look at the plumbing. This entailed him removing the toilet etc.
After this long labour, the knocking continued.
She called to tell me about this and I told her a woodpecker had been tapping on the metal parts of our roof chimney. It has been echoing down one of the fireplaces.
When the noise began again in her house, they went outside and lo and behold, it was that naughty woodpecker.
We could not stop laughing but her husband was upset at taking apart the plumbing. Apparently, the woodpeckers do this to attract the other birds. LOL
