A Winter Table Setting & A $250 Giveaway From Noritake

Welcome to the 323rd Tablescape Thursday!

It’s too cold for tablescaping out on the porch this week so we’re in the dining room for this week’s Tablescape Thursday. Since I have an abundance of red tartan tablecloths right now 🙂 (see Tuesday’s post for an explanation) I decided to put one to use.

Winter Holiday Tablescape With Noritake Cher Blanc

This table is all about winter with a snowflake centerpiece, frosty white Cher Blanc dishware by Noritake and snowmen appetizer plates.

Winter Holiday Tablescape With Cher Blanc China

I’ve been collecting the Swarovski snowflake and star ornaments since the very first year they introduced this collection. I usually put them out around this time of year and keep them out to enjoy all winter.

Tall Centerpieces: I’m frequently asked about using tall centerpieces in table settings. Feel free to use any centerpiece you like on your table and don’t worry about the height. If a centerpiece is so tall it will interfere with view or conversation during dinner, just move it to the sideboard or another location just before your guests sit down to eat.

I let the silver ornament trees guide the direction of the table, choosing silver wine goblets, silver napkin rings and silver twig flatware for this tablescape.

I’ve had the little snowmen plates for several years…found those in HomeGoods. They don’t have a brand or hallmark on them so not sure who made them. I used both snowflake and reindeer napkin rings, alternating them around the table.

If you are participating in Tablescape Thursday, please be sure to add your permalink below, and not your general blog address.

To get your permalink, click on your post name, then copy and paste the address showing in the address bar, into the “url” box when you link up. You’ll need to include a link in your post back to the party to link up and participate.

That’s so visitors to your blog will be able to find the party and the other Tablescape Thursday participants. Requiring a link back also prevents businesses from linking up to sell their products. (Yep, that really happens, unfortunately.)

Please, don’t add your post name/blog name ALL IN CAPS…it tends to create big spaces between the rows of links.

Please do not link up table settings that were just recently shared for a previous Tablescape Thursday.

  1. Loving your plaid house Susan!

  2. Your tablescape is gorgeous with the white and the snowman. I pinned the giveaway under contest. I love the delicate white. White makes my food look its best.

  3. Hi Susan, I also like to use plaids as part of the Holiday decor around our home – it adds a warm and festive accent. Your table is stunning (as always)! BTW your MBR looks so comfortable and you definitely created a wintery feel. Thank you for offering this Noritake give-away as I just happen to be shopping for items to augment my Christmas tabletop.
Have a happy and Blessed Christmas!

  4. Beautiful table! I love the bling it has with the chandy and those beautiful ornament holders. Thanks so much for the link party and the giveaway too 🙂

  5. Your dining room is GOR! GEOUS! 🙂 The red paint color is amazing for Christmas! Your table setting is beautiful…I love the trees and the napkins. Where did you find the sheer ones? Thanks for hosting the party and for the chance at the Noritake prize!

    • Thanks, Julie! That paint color is Benjamin Moore, Raspberry Truffle. Actually, now that I think about it, I saw it in a house while on the Marietta Pilgrimage Home Tour that I blogged about yesterday. 🙂 The little sheer/organza napkin sheaths are from a local store called The Magnolia Room. http://www.magnoliaroomantiques.com/ They may ship…not sure about that.
If you google for napkin sheaths or organza napkins or something like that, I think several places will pop up online that carry those.

  6. Love this table, so festive! Beautiful plates and tablecloth!….
    Christine

  7. Oh I love the tartan, and just ordered a tablecloth to cut up into pillow shams and maybe a runner! Noritake, wow, I could certainly use that! Thanks for hosting Susan:-)

  8. I am into the Ralph Lauren look in tartan plaids too, Susan. I just acquired a pretty tartan tablecloth similar to this one in your beautiful table setting, with such cute dishes and the napkin holders are so cute too.
Can’t wait to have my chairs upholstered in an English tartan. I love your red dining room, I would never repaint it; it’s so elegant.
Enjoy the rest of the week.
    FABBY

  9. Sorry! Thank you so much for the party dear Susan!
    Fabby

  10. Wow what a nice giveaway offering! Your table looks fabulous with the tartan pattern. Your bedroom will look fabulous too once you can get it all together. I hope one of the seamstresses will be able to fit it in soon for you! Your dining room looks all ready for Christmas- love the two ornament trees!
Thank you for hosting and for the giveaway from Noritake!

  11. Another beautiful table. I could spend countless hours just gazing at your various tablescapes. Just last night I was looking at an old post of yours where you had just one of your Swarovski silver trees on the table, and now I see you have two! On a side note, of course it would be fun to have the Noritake gift certificate, who doesn’t need more dishes?

    • Thanks, Chloe! Appreciate that so much! I’ve been collecting the Swarovski ornaments (one per year) since 1991 so I outgrew my first tree. I haven’t bought this year’s ornament, yet. Beware of starting collections…they go on forever! 😉

      • Hi Susan – I have been collecting Swarovski for 25 years and have many of the Christmas Ornaments as well. I love you table setting with the Silver Ornament tree . In a previous post from 2008 you had said you bought the tree at Ross-Simmons. They no longer carry them and could not provide me with any info. Is there a manufacturer or any hint of who made it as I would really like to find one. Thanks for your help.

        • Unfortunately, there isn’t anything on them. I have a feeling they were made exclusively for Ross-Simon since I’ve never seen them anywhere else. I wish they hadn’t discontinued them!

  12. Such a warm and inviting dining room Susan! Where’s my invite?

    Thank you for the party!

  13. Beautiful…just beautiful…love it all!

  14. Oh, how I love plaid, and your tablecloth and napkins make this setting warm and inviting, even though the theme is about cold weather. Those silver goblets are beautiful, and all of the silver pops on the plaid. Beautiful scape. thanks for hosting. laurie

  15. The table is lovely. Great Snowman plates. I have been collecting Swarovski ornaments all along, also. Where did you get the trees to display them? That is exactly what I need.

    • Cindy, I purchased the silverplate trees from Ross Simon many years ago, maybe around 1994. It was a few years after I began collecting the ornaments. Actually, I outgrew the first tree since I’ve been collecting the Swarovski ornaments since 1991 when the first one came out. When I went online to RS to order a second tree, they had changed the style of the tree slightly. So a friend and I each purchased one of the new trees, then we swapped trees so we’d each have a matching pair of trees. lol I think the older trees were better made, though. One of the ones I have now keeps trying to tarnish even though they are supposed to have a protective coating on them. I have to polish it each year. I purchased two Hagerty Silver Bags last year to store them in, hoping that will help. Not sure if Ross Simon has the trees in again this year but this would be the time to check. They haven’t had them in a few years. So many folks have asked me about these, Swarovski could make a fortune if they would team up with a company to manufacture silverplate trees to hold their ornaments!

  16. I love the whole tablescape. Especially the centerpieces with the beautiful snowflake ornaments. I want, I want, I want. 🙂

  17. I’m still enjoying your plaid! You were so smart to add the shear napkin to your plaid napkin. It kept it from blending in with the tablecloth and complimented the beautiful white dishes so well.

  18. As always your table is over the top gorgeous , I always like seeing all your special tablescapes
I would like to enter the giveaway but don’t want all those email ads from Noritake in my email account. I love Noritake china

  19. Plaid goes with everything! The Noritake Cher Blanc is perfect to set off your snowman plates and to compliment the plaid. Your table is elegant yet warm and inviting, bring on the holidays!

  20. I love the plaid tablecloth! The plaid just makes the tablescape feel warm & cozy. Your Snowman plates are so cute. Really gets me in the mood to play in the snow!

  21. What a gorgeous table and the details are so cute

  22. pam ~ crumpety cottage says

Susan, the tartan tablecloth looks GORGEOUS with your red walls and wood funiture. You’ll have to actually buy one for the dining room, lol. So pretty!

The sheer overlay on the napkins gives them a ‘frosty’ look. Somehow you managed a very warm look, with the tartain and red walls and wood furniture, but it’s also very cool and frosty with the napkins, silver and other elements of the dining room like the crystal and that gorgeous mirror.

You definitely need to keep/have a tartan tablecloth for that room! 😀

  23. Susan, tartan looks beautiful in your dining room. This table is very appropriate considering all the snow that is falling in upstate NY. I’d love to cozy up to this table for a meal with you. Every detail shimmers with beauty.
Loving all the tartan that is in your home!

  24. The all white china is beautiful, but I like the vegetable snowman plates more – so playful!

  25. Thankfully I have a 50% off Joann’s coupon that I hope to use for some plaid fabric. This is so warm and beautiful and the contest is great. Thank you for the weekly party!

  26. Beautiful table, Susan! Love the mixtures of plaid with winter whites. You continue to inspire; and already have me pining for the WS Tartan Dinner Plates you used in the post of 17 table settings using tartan plaid. Also have been looking for the silver snowflake & reindeer napkin rings since you used them last year. Temps in western NC will warm up to fall-like days. Hope you have a good weekend!

  27. You and I are on the same page on so many decorating styles ~ especially tartan. I never tire of it. Beautiful tablescape! Thanks again for sharing your inspiring designs with us and for allowing us to feature our own.

    Big Texas Hugs,
    Susan and Bentley

  28. Hope you did not rob your bed, Susan!! 🙂
The table looks beautiful, I love your crystals. My Christmas table is usually all glitzy.
Now, with all your tartan, I am sure you have read the books or watched the new series on Outlander?

    • lol You made me laugh out loud, Megan…because as a matter of fact, I did rob my bed! lol So funny! No, I haven’t watched that…have heard of it, though. 🙂

  29. Great giveaway! Thanks!! Your tables is lovely and I love the new look for your bedroom.

  30. Hi Susan! Oh, I love your plaid and your tablescape looks wonderful! I’ve not gotten to join your party in some time but I’m excited that I can today! I wish you and your family a blessed Thanksgiving!
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia 😉

  31. Just beautiful, Susan. I love red Tartan plaid at Christmas time.

  32. Hi, Susan! Your dining room is the most perfect place for this tartan tablecloth because of those vibrant red walls! I have always wanted to have red walls in my dining room, but our house (even though it’s a very traditional Colonial style) just really doesn’t lend itself to it. Those red walls serve as the most incredible background for a tablescape like this one.

I think it’s quite obvious this is going to be a harsher than usual winter if it’s too cold there! At least you’re not getting what those poor folks in the Buffalo, NY area are living through right now. Can you imagine??? Yikes!

Thanks so much for hosting again this week, and I’ll definitely enter the Noritake contest. My wedding china is Noritake, and I could use a few extra pieces! Happy Weekend!

  33. rattlebridge farm says

Your dining room was made for tartan. It’s beautiful. You’ve inspired me to use my tablecloth!

  34. Plaid house–Still laughing at that one above!
Plaid takes the snowman plate up a notch, from cutesy to adult, fun adult.
Since I don’t have Facebook, twitter, pinterest or instagram accounts–dinosaur I know, I know–this is another giveaway I can’t enter. Seems entering with an email account is becoming passe. I tried the mailing list one–yikes!–so will see how that goes; hope not too many notices.
Thanks for sharing the opportunity though, Susan.

  35. Beautiful table and the tablecloth is perfect! I would love to find the twig cutlery but can’t seem to find it online. Wishing you a lovely Thanksgiving.

  36. Lovely table feature for TT. Your dining room is probably the most recognized dining room in America. So many lovely tablescapes have been created there.

I love your plaid cloth and snowflake and snowman theme for winter. Love the

  37. Lost my comment. So frustrating!

Love your beautiful dining room which is probably one of the most recognized dining rooms in America. Your plaid cloth is so pretty with the snowflakes and snowman theme using Cher Blanc by Noritake china.

    Thanks for hosting TT.

  38. Sherry Myers says

  45. bobbi duncan says

Susan, I adore the entire tablescape! I have Swarovski envy as I’ve only been collecting the crystal ornaments since 2011…aren’t they just beautiful, and so sparkly? This is a busy time of year for us so if I don’t log in over the next few days please know I send warm wishes for a wonderful Thanksgiving….one with much to be thankful for.

  46. The glow of the silver really caught my attention. I just like using plaid so much I accidentally bought a duplicate tablecloth this year!
Time to pull together my Thanksgiving table – just a bit behind lately.

  47. Your house is a dream!!!

  48. Miriam Broin says

I would love to find the tabletop ornament display stands you use. I can not locate them anywhere! Help please!

    • I don’t think they are made now. I bought mine in Ross-Simons about 25-30 years ago. Wish they would bring them back. Only thing I can suggest is to check on eBay from time to time.
