BNOTP Has Landed at WordPress

Welcome to the 175th Metamorphosis Monday!

Last night, shortly after 10:30 PM, I held my breath and said a little prayer.  In the blink of an eye, Between Naps on the Porch took a giant leap in cyberspace.  If you’re reading this, that means you held on tight and took the leap, too.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!

This may be the biggest Metamorphosis I’ve posted about for any Metamorphosis Monday, yet!  It was certainly the scariest.  Almost 900 posts and 58,000 comments had to be moved from one blog platform to another.  A few things are wonky…I know of at least 19 posts that went AWOL.  We are working today to get those copied over.

Pssst:  In case you want to bookmark it, Between Naps on the Porch’s new address is:

Missing Comments:

If you notice your comment is missing from the recent Wedding Tales post, be assured, I am copying all those comments over.  The stories you shared in your comments were heartwarming, heartbreaking, shocking, funny and amazing!  I’m definitely not leaving those stories behind in this transition.   The missing comments were comments that weren’t part of the initial transfer but  I hope to have them back in place by the end of today.

Update:  I’ve copied and pasted over all the comments that were lost on the Wedding Tales post.  They aren’t in the order they came in and are all dated today’s date, but at least they are back.  So many amazing stories…thank you for sharing each one!

Why the Leap and What’s New?

So many folks have asked why I took the leap…why Between Naps on the Porch, took the leap to WordPress.  There are a lot of little reasons but the main reasons are:

1.  The worry that blogger might one day accidentally delete my blog thinking it’s spam.  I’ve heard those horror stories and I’m sure you have too.

2. Better layout with drop down menus allowing quick access to the posts you want.   Blogger has been working hard to upgrade their blogging platform…it’s getting better all the time.  But the themes were limited and didn’t offer easy access to old posts.

Go exploring!  Click on the menus at the top of the blog.  You’ll notice they drop down revealing lots of categories and often the categories will drop down again.  That means fast and easy access to the information you want.

Example:  Looking for a particular holiday post?  Click on the category “Holiday” and it will drop down down to reveal a list of holidays.  Click on a specific holiday, like Christmas, and it will drop down to reveal 5 subcategories: Crafts, Decor, Home Tours, Movie Houses and Tablescapes…all related to the holiday, Christmas.

Before when you clicked on the holiday category, you had to scroll and scroll and scroll to find the Christmas section and then you had to scroll some more in search of the crafts, decorating ideas, or movie house tours related to Christmas.  Now a few clicks will take you right where you want to go.

NOTE:  If you click on a picture link today under the category headings and it cycles you back to the home page, you’ll know you found a post that didn’t make it over.  I know of 19 right now that didn’t make the transition.  We are working to get all those over today, so please know we’ll get that corrected.

Update:  I think all the missing posts have been restored.  If you click on a picture link under one of the categories at the top of the blog and it doesn’t take you to the post, but instead cycles you back to the home page, please do let me know!  It would really help if you let me know when something appears to be not working correctly.  Thanks so much in advance!

Have fun exploring BNOTP today!

Pssst:  Want to see bigger pictures as you explore?  Just press the “Ctrl” button down on your keyboard and while holding it down, press the plus (+) key once or twice, depending on how big you want the pics and writing to be.  When you’re done reading, press the Ctrl button and the number 0 (zero) to return to where you were.

Looking forward to your beautiful Before and Afters!

  1. Your new make-over is amazing! I love the clean lines and it really showcases your photography! Congratulations on a successful move (and the wedding looks amazing, too)!

  2. I love the new look, so happy for you! I’m going to go exploring once my kiddoes are off to school!

  3. Good Morning Susan!
Best of luck to Between Naps On The Porch in its new home.
I think you were VERY brave to make the leap — It’s like driving your car at midnight without the headlights on. You take things on faith.
Everything looks good from this side of the monitor!
    Best wishes — Cass

  4. Good morning! Love the new look! I just made the transition to WP a couple of weeks ago. It is scary but well worth it. Still have some kinks to work out but overall, it was fairly smooth. Good luck with everything!

  5. Thank you for hosting! Little Bit

  6. It’s great! Thanks for all your hard work!!

  7. Thanks for hosting!

  8. Congratulations on making the switch. Your blog looks great!

  9. Thanks for hosting the party. xo

  10. Glad to see that you finally made a safe landing after all the turbulence. Everything is in working order from this end. Thanks so much for hosting.

  11. Glad the switch is going well, as someone commented, looks good from this this. I was wondering if you had to hire someone to assist you with the switch? All of still on blogger are always nervous when the deleted blog stories keep appearing. Any info you can provide would be appreciated. Thanks for hosting, Laura

    • Yes, I brought in a blog designer/developer to move BNOTP. I definitely would not have felt comfortable doing it on my own. One thing that can happen is if your gmail email gets hacked, your blog could be effected…so check out this article from Life acker: I highly recommend the two step verification procedure for your email.
If anything ever happens, I know Blogger has steps you can follow for trying to have it restored. If you google that or you check the blogger forums, you’ll find information on it. Also, make sure you have backup emails/phone number etc…registered with Blogger so if your gmail ever gets hacked, you can still communicate with Blogger.

  12. I wish I was brave enough to switch. I don’t understand computer stuff very much and it scares me to death to change. I have to learn how wordpress works first and then hire someone to change me over. Yours looks great and how nice to understand how to do it yourself.

    • Kim, I understand only a little about it…I brought in a designer to move BNOTP…to scary to do it alone. I’m glad it’s done and I hope I never feel the need to move again! 🙂

  13. WordPress has been wonderful for me….no problems and user friendly….Thanks for hosting and glad that you had a smooth transition!

  14. Good for you! This is something I’ve seriously considered doing, but I admit it: it scares me. I have over a 1000 posts, lots of comments, and lots to transfer! But I have the same fears – that Blogger might delete my blog, etc.

I also hear that there is much more flexibility with WordPress.

    • Claudia, there is definitely much more flexibility. Right now I feel a bit overwhelmed with all the choices. I have a lot to learn! I almost feel like I’m learning to blog all over again.

  15. Glad you are in your new “home”. Thanks for hosting!

  16. Glad you landed safely! Will we have to fill those boxes in all the time?

  17. Margaret Robinson says:

So many congratulations, so little time (paraphrasing it a bit)! Love, love the new set up. Drop-downs are great. Nice improvements.

  18. Holy Awesome! It looks great! Congrats on the big switch-a-roo!
    Thank you for hosting.
    Kerry at HouseTalkN

  19. Looks great, Susan! Congrats on the move!!! So happy for you. 🙂

  20. Congratulations! I look forward to exploring after the laundry is done this afternoon!

  21. Glad it went relatively smoothly, Susan! Everything looks great from here! Thanks for hosting!…hugs…Debbie

  22. Yea! You did it, Susan! It looks fabulous. I know it was a stressful few days, not to mention the timing of all this with the recent big event in your life. Glad it has all worked out for you. As you know, BNOTP was my initial introduction in the world of Blog and inspiration for starting my own. Without your encouragement and help along with the same from Debbie and Maggie, I wouldn’t have a blog. I’m still having fun with it. Thank you for your friendship and continuing to inspire all of us each day. ~ Sarah

  23. Congratulations! Your blog looks amazing! The changes are awesome and the look is great! Thanks for hosting another fun link party!

  24. Entertaining women says:

I know that you are breathing a sigh of relief this morning. Looking forward to exploring the new format. Welcome back! Cherry Kay

  25. Answered my own question, great! Fill in once and done!

  26. Congrats Susan, glad your new site is up and running. No trouble at all to leave a message.

  27. Gongrats on the huge new move!! I hope all the little kinks are worked out soon so you can sit back and enjoy the move =) It looks great!!

  28. So glad it is working too! 😉 Happy to hear all of the nice comments!

  29. This new *home* is great Susan. I did a test from one post to another and my details showed up without me having to type them in again. Well done!!!
I shall have fun exploring this and what I want to know is….does Mr. Max know he has moved and …”Are you giving a housewarming party?” 🙂
Thank you for hosting and all your hard work.

    • LOL Well, he’s been laying in my lap all morning, putting my left leg/foot to sleep. 😉 I think he sense something’s been going on. They somehow just know if we are stressed don’t they?

  30. I LOVE the new format. So clean and fresh, and seems so easy to navigate. I know it was lots of stress for you, but it looks all worth it. 🙂

  31. WOOH BABY. This loads so fast now. Perfect. Good Move.

  32. Congrats on the transition, Susan! It’s still your familiar blog header (that I love, btw), except it all looks fresher. Thanks for continuing to host your party! Take care. Suzy

  33. Thanks for hosting! There are so many neat things to check out.
    Have a great Monday!!

  34. Congratulations on your move, Susan! It seems like it went fairly smoothly. I’ve read about the blogs and comments disappearing for others, too. Thanks for hosting!

  35. Susan,
Congratulations on your move.I have thought of switching over for the same reasons you did.I just don’t know how to do it by myself.Did you have help? Was it easy?Thank you for hosting.

  36. Congrats on your successful move. I love the photos of the suitcases, the wires, and the fishbowls. They really said it all. It has given me an unexpected laugh. You are very creative.

  37. debbiedoos says:

Your site looks fantastic Susan. Very fast too! I made the switch around two months ago. Mine was not as smooth, and I lost 7 months of comments. They are still in blogger and someday I will figure out how to get them. I tried with the plug in and it did not work. I do love Word press though and it is so nice to have things organized for our friends and readers. Thanks for hosting!

  38. Welcome to your new home! It looks fantastic, and I’m so happy to hear that you really have had minimal trouble in the switch!

I have been thinking about making the move too!

Thanks for hosting! Have a fantastic week!

  39. Welcome to WordPress, Susan! Your blog looks fabulous, and I know you’ve been stressed out to the max lately. You could always go get another one of those cakes from Whole Foods just for yourself!

  40. Thanks so much for hosting 🙂

  41. Welcome to your new “home”. I love what you’ve done with the place!!! 🙂 Thanks for hosting! xo

  42. I must admit, I can scroll to the bottom of the screen with ease unlike when you were on Blogger when I would just bump bump bump along taking. forever. to. get. to. the. links. and. comments.

  43. Congrats on the move and thanks for hosting!

  44. Happy to see you moving on up! Hope it all goes smoothly. Thank you for taking the time to also host the party with all you have going on. It’s much appreciated.

  45. Wow! This is great! Congrats on your new “home”, and best wishes as you get the kinks all worked out!

  46. Congratulations on your move! Everything looks wonderful! I have a question that I have been meaning to ask ever since I found your site. Do you know how to prevent crazing on dishes? I was told to avoid earthenware dishes. I spent a lot of money on 12 pieces of everything from a big name store only to have crazing starting on the stoneware dishes. I load my dishwasher very carefully, nothing touching each other and no silverware up against the plates. I don’t used them in the microwave. I basically only use them for lunches over the weekends and sometimes with company. I haven’t even taken a knife to some of the places that look horrible. I like the look of stoneware. I don’t want to use exclusively china but this is really upsetting. I have asked about this problem at several stores, done internet searches but I am getting no answers. If you have any ideas, I would love to hear it because I am going to be very sad if I can’t buy dishes at this store any more. Thank you!

  47. Congratulations on the big move Susan, the new make-over is amazingly well done.
Thank you for sharing your fun sense of humor and all the creative inspiration!

  48. Congrats on the switch! Not to mention hosting a wonderful link party! Looking forward to many more inspiring posts. Have a great week.

  49. so glad the change over went well! From this end it looks like it all went smoothly! Your hosting would be greatly missed if thing should happen not to mention all the beautiful work on your blog. It is a cornerstone for many!!

  50. I followed.

Congrats and may your blog be very happy in its new spot!

  55. Looks great! Thanks for hosting!

  56. Hello Susan,
I actually did experience Blogger shutting down my blog for a few hours. It was a heart-dropping experience. I thought of all my work gone just like that. Fortunately, I did have another email to be able to contact – to work through the problem –
Congratulations on your successful move – like the others – I have thought long and hard about doing a move…it must be much better to own your own site –
I have a feeling the other little fishies are going to be watching for a while to see how well your leap goes!
Thanks again for being such a terrific blogger and gracious hostess!

    • Hi Ginger,
Feedburner offers 2 hour window time frames for a feed to go out and I currently have it set to release between 9AM and 11AM Eastern Time in hopes it will send out the MM and TT posts each week that normally go up around 10AM. It’s hard to choose what time to have it release since everyone lives in different time zones. I wonder if I should set it for late in the day, like 5PM to 7pM. Then it would be there in the evening when folks get in from work or would be there in the morning for those who like to read it early morning time. I wish I knew the best time to send it out. That might be a good thing to create a poll for. Again, you still run into the problem of everyone being in different time zones. You can always stop by here and visit in person anytime. 🙂

Hi Susan, I am really pretty new to the blogging world. I only follow you and a few others. I think the new format is better. I was trying to figure out how to search before b/c since I’ve only been following for a short time there’s lots of older blogs I would like to see. Now it’s easy. Also, I definetly missed some blogs and I don’t mean now I mean before the switch. I was pleased to see one about the author Michael West (I think) from April that I am sure I should have seen b/c I do check everyday. So good look at your new home and I continue to enjoy your posts although there’s still somethings I don’t understand but I will continue to figure it out. Congratulations on the wedding.

  68. Loving the new look!

  69. Congradulations on the new Home. Looks good. I dont see the flash that I got on the other site

  70. Congrats to moving over to Word Press. You’re braver than I am!

  71. Between Naps on the Porch quickly became my favorite web-site from the moment I discovered it. I am so very glad to make the move with you! Beautiful as always!

    Ms Minx

  72. Good Morning! I was making homemade yogurt, so naturally had to make some Simple Tasty Granola (#266 ). Using Agave Nectar, some oats and a few nuts, I have a yummy treat waiting for me every morning. Hope you enjoy my recipe! Thanks for hosting the party and have a great day!

  73. Just now getting around to checking out your new site and I must say it is SO much easier to navigate and find posts quickly! I’m impressed. The new format will take some getting used to but I think I’m gonna love it 🙂
I am way behind on getting my blog posts organized and have been scratching my head and dragging my feet wondering how to go about it. This may be the solution! You replied to an earlier comment about having a blog designer/developer do the move for you. Now the question is, who do I use and where do I find him/her? I’m so in the dark about this kind of stuff. It too me forever to figure out how to do Blogger!! LOL
I look forward to catching up on the posts that I’ve been missing and I know they won’t be hard to find! 🙂

I'd love to hear from you! Please leave a comment!
