Welcome to the 257th Metamorphosis Monday! My Before and Aftert today is a minor change here in the office. It's a small update but one that has made life a little easier. I love those kinds of tweaks, sometimes they can have the biggest impact. (Psst: If you're new to reading BNOTP, you can see the Before and After for the office in this previous post: Creating a Home Office)   See that … [Read more...]

The Quest for a Comfortable Desk Chair: Take 3

Pottery Barn Office with Bedford Furniture and the Airgo Desk Chair

Welcome to the 234th Metamorphosis Monday! Hope your weekend was awesome! Mine was good. I worked in the yard a little and I'm hoping it doesn't rain on Tuesday since that's "S" Day...Sod Day. Just checked the weather and there's a 40% chance of rain that day. Ummm, I wonder if they lay sod in the rain? I believe the sod will be cut this evening so I guess they will lay it rain or shine since it has to … [Read more...]

Screened-in Porches: How Much Do They Cost to Build?

Screened in Porch

One of the most commonly "Googled" phrases or topics bringing readers to the Between Naps on the Porch blog is, "How much does it cost to build a screened in porch."   Lately I've been getting a few e-mails asking for this information, too.  You know what that means...spring is not far off!  Almost porch time again! Today I thought I'd share the nitty gritty facts and figures of just how much it cost to … [Read more...]

A Comfy Desk Chair for the Office

Office Chairs

Welcome to the 212th Metamorphosis Monday! How was your weekend?  Were you in blizzard territory?  The pictures I've been seeing online are amazing! For this Met Monday, I'm sharing a "comfort" change I made in the office this weekend.  It was one I was reluctant to make but finally decided it needed to be done. If you have been reading BNOTP for a while, you may remember when I purchased my desk … [Read more...]

A New Mirror for the Office

i_wm

Back in September, I was on an all-out mirror search for the office.  I wanted a mirror to go above the chest in my little reading corner, something that would reflect the light coming in through the windows . I found this silver one at Marshalls for just $20 and brought it home to try it out.  You may remember it from THIS previous Metamorphosis Monday. It looked pretty good except for one thing. … [Read more...]

Home Office Inspiration That Won’t Break the Budget

home-office-makeover-anthropologie-curtains-navy-wall-black-desk

Recently Melissa (The Inspired Room) created a beautiful home office for herself. She's loving it!  Who wouldn't love working in this gorgeous space!  Perhaps, the neatest part is how it turned out to be much more than just a home office.  It's also a haven, a "girl space" where she can enjoy some time with her daughters.    You can take the full tour at The Inspired Room.   Virginia (Live, … [Read more...]

Buffalo Check Curtains for the Office

Buffalo Check Curtains for a Pottery Barn Office

Welcome to the 174th Metamorphosis Monday! Greetings!  Hope your weekend was great!  I'm really excited about a change I made recently here in the office.  Did you guess what it was from the hint I left a few days ago? Not long after I moved into this house twenty+ years ago, I purchased plantation shutters for all the windows.  In hindsight, that was one of the best purchases I've ever made for my … [Read more...]

Billy Bookcase, Easy to Assemble

09

Billy, where have you been all my life?  I'm a latecomer to Billy bookcases but it turns out they have been around for 30+ years.   The factory that produces the Billy bookshelf makes 15 Billys a minute.  That's 3.1 million a year!  Wow!  After buying three of my own, I can see why they are so popular.   They are sturdy, easy to assemble and reasonably priced. I shared my small (but growing) office … [Read more...]

IKEA Billy Bookcase Office Library 06

Welcome to the 136th Metamorphosis Monday! If you've been reading BNOTP for a while, you're very familiar with this view of my  Office.   I've shared this side of the room in previous posts, too. But, I've rarely shared this side because...well, there's just nothing to see.  Pretty boring, right?  Well, that's about to change! I've had big plans for this space all along; I just … [Read more...]

Designing and Creating a Home Office, The Journey

Pottery Barn Inspired Home Office

Welcome to the  124th Metamorphosis Monday! This was my office, if you could call it an office. It was really just a dressing room off my master bedroom with a built in dressing table that I was using as a desk. After several months working in this space, I began to have neck pain and tingling pain down my arms. It turned out my makeshift desk was about 4 inches shorter than a real desk. I decided it was … [Read more...]

Tole Chandelier for the Office

Welcome to the 120th Metamorphosis Monday! Happy Metamorphosis Monday! Things are about to get cranking once again with the home office. I'm still waiting on a component that's backordered, but the chandelier is here. Unfortunately, the contractor who will install it (along with the crown molding) is currently out of town. He is supposed to be back in town this week, so hopefully I'll have some neat … [Read more...]

A Roller-Coaster Day

8

Today was a crazy, roller-coaster day, filled with highs and filled with a few tears. The day started with an e-mail that a chandelier I had bid on (and lost) on eBay for the office, might actually get to be mine after all. :) It hasn't been confirmed for sure, but there's a good chance. Keep your fingers and toes crossed...I should know soon. Next, I found this in my e-mail Inbox and I rushed to shower … [Read more...]

The Best Wallpaper Remover, Ever!

1+WP+Remover+036

Life just got better... ...because of this. Safe and Simple is the best wallpaper remover, ever. Hands down! This is the stuff professional wallpaper removers use and they use it because it actually works! Why it isn't in every Home Depot and Lowe's in the world, I do not know. So, while Mr. Max does this... I'm doing this...   Several folks have asked for the web address … [Read more...]

Installing Hard Wood Floors: Final

1+Floor4+019

With the sanding complete... It was time to evaluate the stain. The wood I always have installed is white oak (not red oak) so I can get a nice amber or yellow sunshine color. Last time a mix of equal parts Natural and Puritan Pine stain worked well to get the color I like. (These are Minwax colors, I believe.) This is the view standing in the hallway looking into the room. The Natural and PP combo is … [Read more...]

Installing Hard Wood Floors: Part 3

Floor is in... Closet is done, too. Sanding has begun. If you missed them, you can view Part 1, HERE and Part 2, HERE. Several folks have emailed and asked what company I am using for my flooring. I love A.L. Thomas out of Buford, GA. (678-546-6970) They have installed/finished flooring in my home before and always do a wonderful job. Plus, they have been in business 65 years! Wow! … [Read more...]

Installing Hardwood Floors: Part 1

Come along for the journey. Here's the room this morning. This was my son's baseball-themed bedroom and I removed all the furniture recently to create a home office since he's all grown up and has flown the nest. Bye-bye old carpet... Wish blogs had sound and smell-a-vision. Imagine the sound of saws, air compressors and the smell of fresh wood. Sounds and smells like … [Read more...]

Building a Home Office

Welcome to the 104th Metamorphosis Monday! Last week in THIS post, I shared a lot of pics of my son's old room and my plans to turn it into a home office. This is a bittersweet metamorphosis, because though I do need a place to work, I am having trouble letting go of this room. I also shared some rooms that are acting as my inspiration for the office I have planned. This is the Bedford … [Read more...]

Creation of a Home Office, Sewing, Craft Room

Welcome to the 103rd Metamorphosis Monday! It's freezing here in Georgia and it's about to get worse. The weather man is predicting freezing rain, sleet and snow up to 5 inches. So if you don't see me online tomorrow, you'll know it's because I am without power. Really hope that doesn't happen. Four months ago I gave my notice at work and left the field I had been working in for 8 years to work … [Read more...]
