Sunshine Yellow for Spring

Welcome to the 131st Tablescape Thursday!

It’s been a rare February day…actually a rare February week. With temps in the 60’s here all week long, I’ve been craving spring and a tablescape full of sunshine.

I just shopped the house for a centerpiece. Actually, I couldn’t make up my mind which centerpiece to use, so I used two. 🙂

The sunflowers normally live on the trunk/coffee table in the upstairs family room/bonus room. I’ve used them in previous tablescapes HERE and HERE.

Salad plates are Wedgwood. You may recognize them from our 39th Tablescape Thursday, HERE in May 2009.

I’ve been told that the hallmark on the back indicates these plates were made around 1937, or even earlier.

I paired them with my Blue Willow…

I love the raised pattern around the edge…

Flatware is Napoleon Bee…

I found the pitcher antiquing around 12+ years ago. I believe it’s called swirl granite ware or swirl enamel ware. Do you collect enamel or granite ware?

How about a different centerpiece…..

I found this hand-crafted birdhouse years ago at the “Cottin Pickin’ Fair” in Gay, Georgia. The breezes were blowing across the porch today…you can see the sheers billowing out on the porch in this pic. 🙂

I had planned to use it in the garden and just never got around to finding a good spot for it.

I love all the metal work and little details…

You may recognize the pattern in these wonderful placemats. They are Genevieve, Yellow Collection by April Cornell and I used the tablecloth in this pattern for our 82nd Tablescape Thursday. 🙂 Here’s a picture from that tablescape. To view the rest of that tablescape, click HERE.

I hope your week has been full of sunshine. If not, this sunshine tablescape is for you! 🙂 If you have a teascape for this week, Laura at Decor to Adore is hosting a wonderful High Tea Tablescape party today.

Looking forward to your wonderful tablescapes!

With many feet of snow outside our window right now, I'm in need of a sunny tablescape and yours fits the bill perfectly! Both centerpieces are terrific but the birdhouse one is a bit more unique. I love the blues and yellows you've combined and the touch of "bee" in the flatware is terrific!

  30. Hi Susan:
I much prefer the graniteware and the sunflowers. Although that is a very cute little birdhouse! I have a wonderful collection of graniteware from that came from my family. My parents were 100 year farmers, which means that the land was in the same family for 100 years, so most of my collection were things that were used by all of my ancestors, which fortunately is now in my hands. I love the setting, as usual, you have done such a lovely job! Thanks so much for sharing!
    Hugs, Lisa

  31. Love the sunflowers and always love April Cornell!
    Blessings,
    Ava

  32. Oh, Susan, this table makes it feel like Spring has sprung! I LOVE the Wedgewood salad plates, and I'd have been so wrong if I'd had to guess their vintage (assuming they were from the 60s). You always coordinate things perfectly. The combination of blue and yellow is eye-catching and timeless, and you've shown the gorgeous April Cornell linens off to their very best advantage!

Your signature (and now famous) porch looks as appealing as ever. With the sheers blowing in the breeze … pure magic!

Thank you for hosting and for making Tablescape Thursdays possible. Your warm hospitality and divine inspiration turn visions into reality for your adoring followers.

    With respect and admiration,
    Bill

  35. Hi Susan, what a lovely bright and cheery table. I love the sunflowers in the jug as the centrepiece.I would prefer the birdhouse to be somewhere where the birds could use it to start nesting now Spring is here.

I love April Cornell sadly not available in the UK. But those gorgeous plates, yes, I am bias but we did and do make wonderful plates here in the UK!!!
    Jackie in Surrey UK.

I hosted a baby shower this past weekend – and the whole time I set it up I was thinking of you 🙂 I was counting down the days until Thursday when I could share! We did a vintage tea party theme – I linked up #99 – which is my post on the table setting – would love for you to check out the whole series – you will adore the tea section – and oh – the desserts too! Ah-blue and springy, what could you want more? Looks great.

  51. Jane@Cottage at the Crossroads says

What a beautiful, spring table you've set! I have to say that I prefer the birdhouse centerpiece because I associate birdhouses more with springtime. The weather has been lovely here in South Carolina also.

  52. Blue, Yellow & White with a pinch of red is my all-time favorite color combo. I have to settle for the yellow & red with green in my home as there is not a smidgen of blue anywhere. But…I wear that combo a lot! The table is just so beautiful. Those are colors that make people feel good and make them want to smile even when they are having a bad day. Well, I made that up but I truly believe it has to be true!

  53. This is beautiful Susan….love the birdhouse centerpiece! Everything's gorgeous here.

I was noticing your sweet kitty Max…he's so precious…give him a hug for me okay?! He looks like he's really earning his keep and helping with the blog ain't he lol …sleeping half the time right?! That's what my Rocky does too 🙂 Hope you both have a great day…

Thanks for hosting: I love watching, with a bit of envy, everyone's wonderful china.

  56. You had me at the first sight of yellow and blue, my two most favorite colors in all the universe!
The April Cornell linens are fabulous and I would love owning them. They certainly compliment your choice of plates…..love the floral salad plate….and the birdhouse is a penthouse for birds!!

  57. FABBY'S LIVING says

  58. Very pretty yellows and blues, lace dishes and sunflowers. Your tablescape sings "Spring"!

  59. Entertaining Women says

We've had fair weather here for the last couple of weeks, too…but that all changed today. We had a lake full of rain today, and the temps are plunging into the 20's overnight. Ah well…it's still winter, in reality. Love the Wedgwood paired with the Blue Willow…lovely mix! The graniteware pitcher is a winner, and sunflower always speak of warmer climes. Thank you for sharing your wonderful design and for providing the format for Tablescape Thursday. I look forward to it each Thursday. Cherry Kay

  60. Sue (Someone's Mom) says

We were thinking alike this week. I have my first April Cornell table linen and was in the mood for yellow and blue. I love your birdhouse! It is perfect with your table.

    Thanks for hosting!

  61. Magpies and Magnolias says

Thanks so much for visiting my new blog and leaving such a wonderful comment about my first tablescape!

I have been an avid reader of your blog for some time, even though I just "officially" started following you. You regularly inspire me with all of your beautiful posts!

  62. Beansieleigh says

Oh Susan, LOVE your table, and that bird house centerpiece, with the rooster setting atop of it is absolutely TO DIE FOR!!!.. Always a pleasure to stop by here! Have a great weekend! ~tina

  63. Susan, sorry to be so late with a comment. Was away from the computer. Your blue and yellow table makes my heart sing. It's so cheerful and makes me think of the yellow daffodils and blue iris that are popping up in my garden. ~ Sarah

  64. I am a frequent visitor but never comment…just admire and quietly enjoy your blog. But today I felt compelled to comment. I have a set of china that matches your salad plates! Actually, I just boxed up my set this past week, removing it from the cupboard to make room for my Blue Willow set! My Wedgewood does NOT have the colorful center that your plates have, though…it is all cream, and the pattern is called 'Patrician'. It was passed to me by my grandmother because my name is Patricia.

  65. Susan (Between Naps on the Porch) says

Trish, that is sooo neat! I will have to look that pattern up. Thanks for telling me about it. And lucky you for inheriting beautiful china! 🙂 Don't you just love Blue Willow! I use mine for everyday and I've never tired of it.
