Twelve Days of Christmas Table Setting

Welcome to the 121st Tablescape Thursday!

Happy Tablescape Thursday! It’s been sooo interesting today reading all the comments left on the Horchow tablescape. Please remember, Tablescape Thursday is NOT about rules. It’s about having fun and creating pretty tablesettings that add to the enjoyment of dining with friends and family. I do “generally” go by the suggested “rules” for setting a table. But, I’m not above breaking them and doing my own thing…as you’ll see this evening. My hope is when you stop by BNOTP each Wednesday evening, the table I’ve set will make you smile and perhaps spark an idea you can use in a future table setting.

Tonight, we’re dining by candlelight and by the lights of the Christmas tree.

The light was just beginning to wane when I began setting the table…

A chickadee and a towhee came to the outdoor chandelier that hangs from the pergola just outside the bay window. I felt like they were asking why I hadn’t filled the feeders. So I stopped and rushed off to the bird store for seed, filled the feeders and then went back to playing with the table.

It was getting a lot darker now…

If you think everything has to be perfect to participate in Tablescape Thursday, think again. You’ll notice I have the coffee cups already on the table…something you would normally wait until the end of the meal to bring out. I wanted to share them with you and I wanted to use them to hold candles this evening…so the rules went out the window. Don’t come here for rules, come here for fun and inspiration.

The china I used this evening was inspired by the centerpiece…a fat Christmas goose! I hope he’s a goose, at least he is for tonight.

I surrounded Mr. Goose with magnolia leaves.  Tried something different with the napkins this evening. Instead of using the napkin sheaths on the outside, I tucked them on the inside.  Love that layered look!

I took some of the Christmas bells I used HERE last year in the garland around my front door…

And turned them into napkin rings for the night. They have little wires with tiny bells on the end and they were perfect for wrapping around the napkins.

I placed one bell at the foot of our Christmas goose.

If you follow BNOTP on Facebook, you’ll remember this china. I got lucky one afternoon while out antiquing and came across eight, 4-pc place settings of Valarie Parr Hill’s, 12 Days of Christmas for $45! I’m on the lookout now for days 9-12. Here are the salad plates for days 1-4.

    Hi Tammy,
The best places I know to shop for deals is either on eBay or in the antique shops, thrift stores or at estate sales and auctions. You may even check Craig's list from time to time. Goodwill now has online bidding…some folks have gotten some great deals at their online site. The highest prices will be in the retails stores.
Happy Hunting…that's a lot of the fun! Maybe some other folks will have some great suggestions.

  47. Hi Susan,
I love those plates so much. Hope you find the rest of them but you have a nice supply already. I love the color and the pattern of the napkins and thejingle bells look perfect with them.Your tree also matches perfectly with your table colors. I have followed you for about a year now and I have learned so much from your table design. It amazes me that you can still come up with such beautiful ideas.
    Happy Holidays,
    Carey

  48. Michael Lee West says

Merry Christmas, Susan! I love the tablescape. And that goose. He's so festive! I'm still writing. Oh, my! XX00

  49. Hi Susan,

What a delightful table — I love the way you've merged whimsy and elegance.

Your tree looks fantastic too! I like monochromatic "decorator" trees, but, for me, there's nothing quite like the traditional red and green. I love ornaments that have been collected over time. Your tree, and your table, bring back childhood memories and tug at the heart strings!

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

    Bye for now,
    Bill

  50. Hi Susan,
A very creative and lovely tablescape!

    Thank you for hosting,

  51. Hi Susan,
This is the first time leaving a comment to you after following you for a few years. I have always loved your home and porch and you have taught me so much about dressing the table. 53. I'm going to try to write a tablescape post for next Thursday because I'm a real newbie. I love napkins and dishes but to be honest we are retired and eat in our easy chairs but I would like to play with something new and there are so many beautiful things out there. I'm going to visit with some of your participants and get inspired. You did say we didn't have to perfect, didn't you?…hehhe…

  54. Love your 12 days tablescape! The napkins are so colorful, very festive, and good to shoo the geese away!:)
Hope you find your missing plates, that would be wonderful!
Thanks so much for hosting every week, Susan!

  55. Susan, it has been such fun following along and participating in Tablescape Thursdays. It seems that many of us thoroughly enjoy creating tables for whatever occasion. I wish we could all pool our dishes and accessories for a lifetime of tables. Happy holidays.

The whole set was available on QVC at one time. There were 3 different sets. Days 1-4, days 5-8, and days 9-12. My Mom only bought days 5-8. Now what do I do with them?
