Country Living Fair in Stone Mountain, Georgia

I haven’t been to a crafts fair in years.  We used to go to them all the time, but after a while you begin to feel like there’s nothing new under the sun.  When I heard Country Living Magazine sponsors a fair at Stone Mountain Park each year, I knew I had to check it out.   It definitely didn’t sound like your typical crafts fair from years gone by and it really wasn’t.  There were crafted items for sale, but there were also lots of vintage and antique pieces, as well as new.

I didn’t get to see it all; the fair was huge!  But I thought I’d take you along with me today to see some of what was available for purchase last weekend at the Country Living Fair.   Some of the photos may be a bit dark, so please excuse.  The booths were underneath the trees and they were not always well lit since we were in the great outdoors.

Click on any photo to enlarge it.  Click twice and it will enlarge even more.

Several booths were arranged as “rooms.”   This was definitely not a typical “crafts” fair.  I loved the chandeliers in this booth.

A close up of one of the chandys…

Here’s another fun use for your silver champagne/wine cooler in between those parties.  Turn it into a pretty fall planter.  Maybe that’s what I should do with the one I bought HERE that arrived with a broken handle.  I’m pretty sure I still have it around here somewhere.

Beautiful wares…

The red album containing old pictures was priced in the $90’s.  I didn’t stop to see how many pics it had, but if it had a lot, that wouldn’t have been a bad price.  I always have to check those out since I’ve collected two over the years.  You can see one of mine in THIS post.

Cute little dolls…not sure what these were made of.  We were moving pretty quickly so no time to ask questions.  They look like the dolls of yesterday, don’t they?

Here’s a view of the other side of the doll house, displaying more of these wonderfully unique dolls.

Fabric pumpkins…

Uniquely upholstered furniture…

Wouldn’t the whale chair be fun for a child’s room or a beach cottage?

If you love colorful fabrics and whimsical interiors, you would love the items available in this booth.

More great chandeliers…great lamps, too.

Spoon necklaces…

Necklaces made from the handles…

I loved this booth.  I would love to do a whole wall in silhouettes in my home somewhere.

I have two of my son and wrote about those in THIS post.

Aren’t they wonderful?!

This witch’s hat reminded me so much of the one I have from Colonial Candle.  I used mine in a Halloween table setting HERE.  When I saw the hat, it struck me how cool it would look hanging on the front door for Halloween.  That’s why I love coming to these events.  Even if I don’t spend a dime, I always come away with some new ideas.

Sparkly Halloween wreaths…

Sooo fun!

Mr. Goose would be wonderful to decorate with for Christmas.  What a great centerpiece for a buffet, sideboard or table.  Look at the size of those pine cones!

A pretty table…

From the other end…

Another table setting…

This would look great in my family room.  I’m looking for something similar to put where I currently have a giant ficus tree.

A lovely dresser…

Lots of fun pillows.

This reminded me of one of my favorite movies, The Red Violin.

The witch’s boots appear to be made from black jean fabric.  They don’t look like they would be that hard to make, do they?

Here’s a hat made from the same fabric…

Pretty lamp shades for Christmas…imagine these lit up.

A moss-covered chair for the garden or porch…

Loved the French script curtains.  I thought they might look great in the office, but they were a tad too short.

Here’s a close up of the fabric on this pillow…

They were nice and heavy and the pricing was very reasonable at $60 a pair.

You would never lose track of time while sitting in this chair.  It gives me an Alice in Wonderland feeling. 🙂  Or, maybe a Back to the Future feeling.  Whimsical!

I found the prices throughout the fair to be okay—no screaming bargains but not outrageous either. I’m a bargain hunting girl so I didn’t but anything except some cinnamon and orange/cinnamon potpourri made with rose hips.

We so need scratch-and-sniff computer monitors.  Close your eyes and imagine cinnamon and cinnamon with oranges.   Ahhhhh…

Have you ever been to a Country Living Fair?

I have three silver wine chillers I found at the SA. All by Ralph Lauren. One is hold bow ties and the others are holding spare change.

I know for a fact, I can do better. LOL.

    You give me hope!

  2. I've never been but wish I could've gone to that one since I live in GA. Looks like a lot of fun and it was beautiful weather too. I really like those script writing curtains too and think that was an excellent price!

  3. I went to the CLF in Ohio last year and didn't see anywhere near what you are showing. Hopefully the fair and beginning to grow and catch on. Looks like there were some lovely temptations.

I was there on Friday as well and really enjoyed it. Wonderful eye candy for sure! – BJ

  8. I missed the one up here in Ohio, but it looks like a fun place to go. I had heard that the prices weren't as cheap as I tend to go for. That display int he champagne bucket is gorgeous. I have a white pumpkin on mine, but that looks cuter.

  9. Hi Susan…..I was there on Friday and it's funny I did a post over the weekend and there is only one photo of that chair with the big flower on it that we duplicated….all the other pictures between you and me were different….But there was so much to see….and once again let me complain that the food was overpriced and horrible….next year I am going on Sunday hoping prices will be a little better and bringing my own blanket and picnic lunch!!…..looking forward to seeing you on the 6th…..e-mail me if you need directions….We are two minutes away from Town Center…

  10. I have always wanted to go to that fair…if only for inspiration!

  11. I read about this a few months ago in the magazine and would have given anything to drive up to be there… but so happy you were able to go!

Oh, I would LOVE to go to a Country Living fair but they are a bit far for me to drive. 🙁
I used to attend arts and crafts fairs and, in fact, used to sell my wares for a few years. They are so much fun and you do get alot of inspiration.
I read your post about the Victorian photo album. How absolutely unique! I've never seen anything like it and you are so fortunate!
btw, I got knocked off your mailing list for some reason :/ I thought you were taking a mini vacation or something. 🙂

  22. Ramblings of a Southern Girl ~ Rhonda G says

Great post and pictures! I was there on Saturday! I tried my best to get a picture of the first sofa you have a photo of, but it was really crowded in the area each time I went by. Have a similar couch and wanted to save the photo for future inspirations! 🙂 I didn't buy much either, just one of the dough bowls from the booth that had tons, a t'shirt from The Country Store, and a wire basket from Sassy Trash. Wasn't the weather just beautiful???

Just posted my trip this evening. Come by and look if you get a chance! 🙂

  23. Rhoda @ Southern Hospitality says

Hey, Susan, so glad to see your post! I was so bummed to miss this, had a mini-college reunion in Dalton that I didn't want to miss either. Next year, hopefully I'll make it!

First – thank you for all the awesome eye candy goodness!!!!

Second, we have a Country Living Fair here in Columbus, Ohio is September and it is always a whole day of awesome eye happiness, too.

It's only about a half hour away from me in the north suburbs – well worth the trip.

  28. Susan I was ogling those Christmas lamp shades with the house scene. I was tempted to ask you if you had picked up the name of the seller, then I thought, silly me, I can paint and have plain lampshades. Thank you, thank you, for the idea.
See, I always get good ideas from you!!

  29. Well, I came here to comment on several of those lovely items & learned that there is a CLF right here in Ohio! Who knew??? I gotta get out more!

Loved seeing what you saw, Susan. Thanks for taking us along.

    fondly,
    Rett

p.s. I would ♥♥♥ to see some of those lampshades lit up from behind!

  30. Oh that looks like fun!!! I am happy when I can come away with ideas and at least one new treasure. I think I would have had to have that beautiful winter lampshade!!! Thanks for sharing.

  31. Love the French script fabric and the chandeliers. Seemed like a wonderful show!

  32. The French Hutch says

I would have been out of control here, probably good I wasn't there. I see so many things I would have liked to bring home, I would have needed a truck! I have to get on the mail list for this fair so maybe I can go next year.

  33. Boy that looked like a lot of fun! I saw lots of goodies I would have struggled to walk away from! I really liked those witches boots! I don't think I could have left them behind!

  34. I have been to a Country Living Fair! So much fun… cake decorating, antique roadshow, shopping, shopping and more shopping. Fortunately for me, I was helping a friend out at their apple farm booth so I didn't have a LOT of time to spend money…or I would have. As it was I went two days. That year it was at the Workshops of David T Smith in Morrow Ohio. After that it moved to Columbus, and I haven't made it there yet! 🙁

  35. Hi Susan! I've been to Stone Mountain quite a few times. My older sister and her family moved to the Atlanta area MANY years ago. Their first home was IN the town of Stone Mountain and the mountain was very visible from the window! Glad you had fun at the fair. It's always fun to just browse!

  36. THE FARMHOUSE PORCH says

Great pics! I'm jealous…looks like fun, and the cool fall weather looks divine!

  37. My dear: get yourself some JB Weld from the hardward store and at least ATTEMPT to use it for welding that handle back together. It will take some planning on your part to give it the right kind of support so it will hold in place while it bonds together. And you probably won't want to carry it by that handle…but you CAN get the look you are after with the handle repaired….JB Weld is a life-saver around my house. Thanks for sharing pictures of the fair. Some neat things for sure.

  38. Jane@Cottage at the Crossroads says

Thanks for showing your pictures. I really wanted to attend this year, but I didn't make it. Hopefully, I can go next year because I saw some really cool things in your photos!

  39. Susan (Between Naps on the Porch) says

Vickie, I did try the JB Weld, too. That's the stuff you mix, right. Nothing worked. I took it to a silver repair place but they said it would look terrible if I repaired it and too expensive to have it all replated afterwards which was the only way to have it look right. The seller did refund the cost since she had insured it…so that was good.

  40. Susan (Between Naps on the Porch) says

Megan and Sandy: Here's the website for the company that had the pretty lampshade…I'm pretty sure it was this company.

  42. The Quintessential Magpie says

Gosh, that's some eye candy, Susan! I've seen this on some other websites, so I'm interested in what you spotted. I spy a demi-John and wish I had another! 🙂

    XO,

    Sheila

  43. Susan, thank you for the lampshade site, but I found it rather strange that one has to log in to see the price and sign up with name address etc. Have you checked it out?

  44. Susan (Between Naps on the Porch) says

Megan, that's weird. I'm pretty sure I didn't log in…and it let me view the lamps and such. I can't remember if it showed me pricing or not. I just checked out all the rooster lamps and bird lamps. I didn't see the Christmas shades…you may need to call them to inquire on those.

  45. On Crooked Creek says

    Susan,
Going to one of these "fairs" is on my bucket list! I am so glad you took photos!!! Like you, many times, the only thing I come away with is inspiration! Thank you for sharing your recent shopping trip with us!!!
    Fondly,
    Pat

  50. Thanks for featuring our booth in your pictures- the one with the corner cabinet full of goodies and the one with the old photo album. It does have over 35 photos in it and some tin types, and I have refused to sell individual pages, as i think it should stay together. If you or one of your viewers are interested in more about the book, please email me at [email protected]. Thanks, Natalie
