In The BNOTP Library: Creating A New Old House

Old homes have so much character and charm. Unfortunately, they also require a lot of repairs and updating to make them comfortable for every day living. The book I’m featuring from my Decor library today offers an alternative for those of us who love old homes but not so much the expense of maintaining them.

Creating a New Old House by Russell Versaci

3 Things I Like About This Book:

  • Whether you’re planning on building a new home or not, if you love the design of old homes, you’ll love this book. This book gives us a peek into beautiful, new “old” homes built in just about every old-home-style you can imagine. Along the way we learn about what makes an older home so special, the features that sadly a lot of new homes lack today. Fortunately, it’s possible to add some of that wonderful, old-home design to our homes, my favorite being the porch!
  • Book is written based on “Eight Pillars of Traditional Design.” They are: Invent Within The Rules, Respect The Character of Place, Tell A Story Over Time, Build For The Ages, Detail For Authenticity, Craft With Natural Materials, Create The Patina Of Age and Incorporate Modern Conveniences.
  • This book covers most of the historic home styles/designs we all love. Chapters are: California Spanish Colonial Revival, Rocky Mountain Ranch, Spanish-Pueblo Adobe, Midwestern Greek Revival, Connecticut Valley Colonial, Pennsylvania Dutch Farmhouse, Hudson Valley Greek Revival, Maryland Tidewater Plantation, German Stone Farmhouse, Cape Cod Cottage, Southern Piedmont Farmhouse, Southern Antebellum Plantation, French Creole Cottage, Texas German Ranch, French Colonial Plantation House, Craftsman Arts and Crafts Bungalow, and Colonial Revival Shingle Style.
