Fall & Thanksgiving Table Setting Inspiration

Welcome to the 270th Tablescape Thursday!

Happy Fall! How is your week going?

With the Tablescape Tour going on yesterday, it just wasn’t the right time to let you know how much I enjoyed reading your “Life’s Lessons Learned” in the comments on Tuesday’s posts. You guys surprised me. I was thinking that post was going to be a light-hearted one with lots of funny comments. Instead, you guys went deep. No one gets through this life without some trials and tribulations and your comments really reflected that. Thanks again for sharing your hard-earned wisdom or in some cases, giving us a little giggle.

Tablescape Thursday

I don’t have a new table setting for today, having just shared one yesterday for the All Things Home Fall Tablescape Tour, so for today I’m going to link to a few past posts that may come in handy for the holiday season. Hope you enjoy these and I’m looking forward to the table settings linked today for Tablescape Thursday!

You’ll need to include a link in your post back to the party in order to link up and participate.  That’s so visitors to your blog will be able to find the party and  the other Tablescape Thursday participants.

If you would like to use the Tablescape Thursday logo button in your post, just copy and paste it to your computer and upload it to your post as you would any photo.

Please, don’t add your post name/blog name ALL IN CAPS…it tends to create big spaces between the rows of links.

Welcome! Thanks for coming to the Party!

Susan – How would one put together a “portable” tablescape for Thanksgiving? I know this sounds kind of weird, but here’s whats going on in my family. FIL + MIL were supposed to come to our house for Turkey Day Dinner. FIL is having major back surgery tomorrow and probably won’t be able to make the 1 1/2 hour car trip to our house. I will most likely have to cook the whole dinner at my house and then transport the entire dinner to their house. My MIL is big on using paper plates, etc, but I am a traditionalist and like to use real plates (I had even purchased some beautiful turkey plates at Home Goods to use for Thanksgiving Dinner this year). Do you have any ideas or suggestions that would make my task of transportation easier?

    • Sharon, I have done something similar in the past. Since my son and his wife normally come here for Christmas, I often go there for Thanksgiving. One year I cooked a bunch of stuff and it’s an 8-9 hour drive so I had to get creative about transporting it all. I called in advance and ordered a Honey Baked Ham at a local store near where they lived and my son picked it up. I think they cooked a turkey, so those things were already done. You can buy those large insulated thermal type bags in Walmart and other places, to put food inside to keep it hot or cold and they do work. Big shallow boxes are great for stabilizing dishes that could turn over or spill. Those large styrofoam coolers you see in Walmart, grocery stores, etc… are great, too for transporting food. I just purchased a large slow cooker from True Value that has lock down handles so nothing will spill when transporting. It’s on sale right now here: http://www.truevalue.com/product/Stay-or-Go-Slow-Cooker-6-Qt/46386.uts?keyword=crockpot When I took Thanksgiving dinner to my son’s 9 hours away, I made a few dishes in advance and froze them because some things are almost better after they sit a while, if you know what I mean. I think I made squash casserole and froze it, so by the time I arrived it was just starting to defrost. I don’t remember what all I made, maybe even sweet potato casserole. Then you can just stick it in the oven to heat it back up, once there. It’s best to put things in the trunk or as far away from heating vents inside the car as possible. I once tried to take a congealed salad to my MIL’s for Christmas and they lived 1 hour 45 min away back then. It didn’t work too well, started to kind of melt, so I don’t recommend taking a congealed salad or anything that needs to stay really firm. Just think about dishes you can make in advance like casseroles and freeze them, then take them out of the freezer and put them in the refrigerator side about 1-2 days before Thanksgiving, then they should be defrosted by the big day and you can just heat them in the oven thoroughly once you’re there. Hope this helps.

  9. Oh that big turkey is killing me, I love him! Thank you for the amazing tables, such inspiration for us all. I’m working on my big table and I will also make a small round one. I will have 14, but the following Sat. after Tksgiving, as there is no Tksgiving celebration around here, a couple of American frinds celebrate too.
Thank you so much for hosting this wonderful party.
