A French Country Cottage With A Dream Kitchen

Oh, do I have a wonderful home for you today! It had me dreaming of the darling cottages we so often see in Carmel. It also reminded me of the adorable cottage in the movie, The Holiday. This home is decorated in French Country style and exudes charm at every turn!

You’re also going to come away with some wonderful ideas for your Christmas decorating since the photos were taken around Christmastime. Never too early to start planning!

The oohing and ahhhing starts before you even enter into this home with this charming exterior made of stone. The home also has a cedar shake roof. Love those!

I’m am swooning over this arched door! What is it about an arched door that makes us weak in the knees! The owners found many of the antique and vintage treasures you’ll be seeing on our tour during visits to the Scott Antique Market, a wonderful antique market that’s held one weekend a month here in Atlanta.

Does this make you want to get out the greenery and start decorating for Christmas? Such a beautiful stairway!

I love how the living room feels like it came together over time. Beautiful mirror! So love all the arched doors and windows throughout this beautiful home!

I was shocked to read that this lovely pencil rendering of the home hanging above the mantel was found wadded up in the boat garage behind the home! I’m so glad they found it and preserved it in such a lovely way.

I would LOVE to have a home with doorways between the rooms like this. Just look at how beautiful they are and the extra storage they offer. Oh, why don’t they build homes like this now?! Absolutely adore this!

I’ve noticed so many creative and fun bar ideas for homes over the last year or so. It’s had me wishing a time or two I had a spot for one of those cute bar carts I keep seeing all over Blogland. I actually started a board on Pinterest named “Creative Bar Designs For Entertaining.” I’m definitely pinning this one to that board!

Great location for the bar in this home, as guests arrive for the Christmas party, they can be greeted with a bubbly glass of Champagne punch. Notice it even has a sink!

Speaking of champagne punch, if you need a recipe for really good one, you’ll find my favorite one here: Insanely Awesome Champagne Punch

This is my dream kitchen. I love so many things about it, I hardly know where to start. I love that it isn’t too big, love the soft cream/off white color of the cabinets and the beautiful countertops. Love the stone hood above the stove…love the placement of the microwave down low, but not too low…and love those pineapple lamps! But wait, it gets even better…

French Country Kitchen, Gorgeous

Look at all that fabulous storage and the hidden refrigerator! Oh, I want this kitchen so much! There’s even an arched window and arched doors…love!

I know this kitchen doesn’t look exactly like the one in the movie, The Holiday, but doesn’t it have same that warm, inviting presence. And those ceiling beams definitely make me think of the The Holiday cottage house.

If you loved that house as much as I did, you can take a tour of it here: Tour The Adorable Cottage In The Movie, The Holiday When I move one day to that little cottage I keep dreaming of, this is how I want the kitchen to look and feel! I’ll take one of these, please! 🙂

This table was built by Georgia Harvest Tables from reclaimed Georgia heart pine. I love a square table that seats two on each side because you get the same pros you get with a round table…everyone is facing each other and it makes for great conversation. A dining room needs to be the right shape and size for a table like this, but I do love it.

Here’s another bath in this home…such a sweet bath for a little girl…just lovely!

A beautiful porch to enjoy the lakeside views and those fall days that will soon be here. Love the old wood flag!

  1. I bought all four of my daughters that movie and instilled “French Country” (England)into their brains. I also have several copies because it is my “warm fuzzy” at the holiday season or before or summer or… Yes indeed I loved your french country w/dream kitchen post. More, please!

I love this house! But I especially love the kitchen and the pineapple lamps. I love lamps in a kitchen (I have a small one in mine that I leave on at night to give the kitchen a warm feel) and lamps in a bathroom. That little bit of soft light just makes the rooms magic. I also love, love, love the stone flooring in the bathrooms. Covet, covet, covet!!! I will have to tuck this post away for future reference in case I finally do get to makeover my kitchen. Lots of good ideas here. Thanks, girlfriend!

  5. I love the exposed beams in the kitchen and the stone range hood!

  6. That kitchen is just beautiful Susan! I think my favorite feature is the stone hood. That’s something you don’t see every day.

I’m writing this from Newport. We just toured two mansions that are the opposite of small and cozy! They remind me so much of Downton Abbey.

French Country ~ my favorite! Our home is French Country. I have the brick walls in my kitchen and the pic of kitchen gives me many ideas. I have a lot of yellow and red on walls, rugs, etc. I have French Country wallpaper in kitchen and breakfast room and I love it. We built our house in 1987, and our kitchen needs updating. Thank you for pics of this beautiful home. I will certainly use them in the future and keep the French Country coming!

Oooh, I so want those pineapple lamps! They would go nicely with my country/primitive décor! That’s another good reason for me to go antiquing (like I needed a reason!)LOL.

I’M WITH YOU–KITCHEN LOVE, KITCHEN LOVE!! WE HAD THAT DEEP ARCH WITH THE SHELVING DOORWAY BETWEEN ROOMS. I MISS ALL THE LITTLE NOOKS AND CRANNIES NOW THAT WE’RE IN A “NEW” HOME. WE ONLY HAVE A BUILT-IN ALCOVE AS YOU MAKE THE TURN ON OUR STAIRS, AND ONLY SEE IT WHEN YOU ARE ON THE STAIRS, SO I HAVE TO DO A LITTLE PIT STOP EVERY NOW AND THEN TO ENJOY THE DECOR PLACED THERE. OH WELL, MAKES IT NICE WHEN I HAVE TO GO UP TO DO LAUNDRY. LOL.

  18. The Holiday is one of my favorite movies and I was just looking for it a couple of days ago. This kitchen is amazing! I could see me whipping up allsorts of yummy things in it. Thank you for sharing this.

  19. Susan,
Loved this post, especially the French kitchen.
