Max

Just wanted to let you know, Max is gone. Thank you so much for all the well wishes and contributions you made in helping him fight cancer.  In the end, the cancer and his failing heart were too much.

Max

I’m devastated and it will take a long time for me to feel close to normal again.  The last few months have been brutal and heart-wrenching. For the last 13+ years, Max was a constant companion, sleeping on my chest at night with his little face only inches from mine, following me from room to room, watching my every move, comforting me if I was sad.  He is irreplaceable.

Max on his favorite ottoman in the office

I’ll be throwing myself into some projects around here.  They will provide much needed distraction and are things I’ve needed to get done for a long time.  There are so many things that need to be done, I hardly know where to start.

Thank you so much for all your support during the last few months. I know many of you loved Max, too.  If you ever want to visit the previous post I wrote about him with all the wonderful pictures, you’ll find it under the category “Inspirational” at the top of BNOTP or click here:  Sweet Max: A Story of Adoption and Healing

My sincerest condolences over the loss of MAX ~ it’s one of the hardest things anyone can go through and only another cat lover would fully understand. We had to say good bye to our Mandy over a year ago and I still tear up thinking of her and the only comfort I can give you is, MAX will forever stay in your heart ♥ I am so very sorry for your loss Susan ~

  6. Susan, I am so sorry for your loss. Max is at Rainbow’s Bridge, I’m sure. You were a great fur baby mama. You did everything that could possibly be done. xo

  7. Awww, Susan! I’m so sorry! I read Between Naps On The Porch religiously but never post. Have been keeping up with Max’s progress, and am very sad to hear this news. There is nothing quite like the gift of a beloved pet. Having walked where you are in the past, I understand your pain now. Please remember that you gave Max an amazing life and he loved you for all that you did for him. Celebrate his life with the great memories. Below is a special poem for you:
    Rainbow Bridge
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….

Oops. I said the same thing down quite a few. Great minds think alike. My daughter told me about Rainbow Bridge when I lost my kitty Valentine.

  8. Susan, I am so very, very sorry. I know what it is to lose a pet, and it’s just like losing a person. Sometimes more so. I’m sending hugs your way. You will be in my heart as you grief. Be good to yourself.

  9. I’m crying. I am so, so sorry for your loss. Max was a very blessed kitty to have you. He could not have had a better life. He was happy and very loved. I’m just so sorry – I know there is nothing to make you feel better but just remember that you gave him a wonderful life; he was very happy and VERY blessed and knew how much you loved him. I know there is nothing I can say to help comfort you but I just wanted you to know that I understand how you feel and how very sorry I am about Max. <3

Susan, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I know what you mean about throwing yourself into projects for a distraction, as that is what I have done too when I am grieving. Being a widow I know how close your pets become as they are your family and it is so hard when they are gone. Hang in there and feel free to grieve, time has a way of healing, but never forgetting.
Big hugs to and know you are in my prayers.

  37. Dear Susan,

I’m so very sorry to hear about sweet Max; I know your heart must be breaking. Our pets are our household angels and they really do add so much to our lives. Our MacDuff follows us from room to room too, when he’s not sleeping, that is. 🙂

I really am sorry that Max was not able to beat the cancer. At least you know you did everything you could for him, and there probably aren’t many pets that had a better life than he. A beautiful house to live in, a porch to nap on, windows to watch the birds and squirrels from all day — you gave him all those things. That, and your companionship. I know he will be sorely missed, Susan; I will be thinking of you in the days to come.

    Blessings,

    Denise

  45. Debra Taylor says

Susan, I’m so sorry for your loss. I so look forward to all of your updates. This one was almost impossible for you to write, I’m sure. Just know that there are untold thousands of fellow fur-baby mothers, like myself, who loved Max, and are grieving with you. Having experienced this before, I send you love and prayers that time, as the great healer, will ease your pain, and that your memories of Max will bring you peace in these coming days and months.

Wishing you all the best with love,
    Debra

  46. I have read your blog for quite awhile and always look forward to reading your next entry. I apologize for not leaving a comment sooner but reading today and your loss of Max…..I know how hard it is to lose a pet, our pets are more than pets they are family, the ones that love unconditionally, the ones that are there sensing how we feel and what we need. My heart is sad for you and I know that the days and nights to come will be hard… know that your love and memories of Max will help you get thru

  47. So very, very sorry. My heart is with you. My Minime crossed over in February to be with my other little darlings that went before her. I understand how you feel. Max was so fortunate to have found you and he lived a wonderful life and brought many joy. They are little treasures that we are gifted for a short time and then the angels come and gently take them back home. I pray that you will soon find comfort in the sweet memories that you’ve shared with Max. He will always be with you in your heart and mind and yes, he is irreplaceable.
I have always had cats. They have always been injured strays, some of which the vets said were not treatable but, with patience and much care went on to live happy lives. When each one finally came to the end of his or her life the pain I felt was too much to bare and I would say “No more pets….ever!” But they always left an empty space in my home for some other needy little one to fill (and somehow it has ALWAYS been filled) and in doing so it placed a sweet little patch where there was once a hole in my heart. I hope that sweet little Max will in time help you find your sweet little patch.

  56. I’m so sorry for your loss. God bless.

  57. Susan, sad news to know that Max lost his fight with cancer. He couldn’t have been in better care as he struggled with this. Max was a lucky kitty to have found you, though I know that it was a two way street for you felt just as fortunate to have found Max. Our pets are such a huge part of our lives, when one is lost it is difficult to image life without them. I will keep you close in thought as you move along with a new routine. I know your heart is broken. I hope you’ll feel the circle of care and love of many friends that is wrapped around you.

  58. Oh Susan, I am so sorry to hear about Max. What a brave and dear soul he was! A gorgeous cat inside and out and I know how much you’ll miss him. I pray that you’ll find peace in the memories you hold so dearly in your heart. Extra Big Hugs, Leena

  59. Sandi Lee says

Such a hard thing to go through. I wish they didn’t leave us so soon and it seems like it’s always too soon. One of the most wonderful things about rescue is that they are given a second chance at life and that is a wonderful thing to do for any living creature. I have found they are a blessing to us just as we are to them. I know your heart is breaking and I wish I could take all your grief away but of course I cannot but I am praying for your healing and peace. You have been a most excellent Mom to Max. Lots of love to you.

  60. Entertaining Women says

My heart hurts for you. I am so sad for your loss. Our furry little friends give so much and ask so little. I pray that the Lord will pour His peace into you that you might feel His arms wrapped firmly about you. Cherry Kay

I am truly sorry for your loss. Our pets really do become our loyal companions. I had one that was like that and we had to put her down on Christmas Eve : ( Hang in there!

  62. Dear Susan,
My heart aches for you as I sit here crying. You were such a good Mom to Max. Take comfort that you did all you could for him. He loved you as you loved him. He was a lucky baby having you for his Momma!

  63. Susan,
I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Max. Rarely does a day go by that I don’t think of Francis who died almost five years ago, and I know that you will suffer the same hole in your heart. I always smile when I put his ornament on the Christmas tree, and remember his antics. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
    Susan

  64. Susan, I am so so sorry. I know you are just so heart broken, but time will heal. I have lost so many cats and pets and it hurts each time. I even had a cat named Max and he was the hardest one for my husband to lose. Sending a big bear hug your way.

  65. You have my deepest Sympathy…I know how hard it is…I hope you find comfort in his memory as the days go by…I’d like to think all of mine are welcoming him…they can tell him how much their mom enjoys a visit from…Between naps on the porch every day…knowing my Oliver he’s showing him the ropes…I’m going right now to look at the other post with pix…again…I’m really so sorry….

  66. So sorry for your loss. You will certainly feel the loss for awhile.

  67. Susan, my heart goes out to you. The loss of a furbaby is so very painful. Know that we’re crying with you, but that God just reclaimed his little creature for the heavens to enjoy. May His Word comfort you during this difficult time. Selva

  68. Oh, Susan! I am so sorry! I know you must be heartbroken. He put up a tough fight and you are the best fur baby mama ever to give him every chance. I have to believe that our babies go to heaven (or it won’t be heaven for me) and that they will be there waiting to greet us. You will be in my prayers. I’m sending hugs…Debbie

  69. Dearest Susan……I am crying as I write this – I “felt” that Max was gone yesterday – don’t know how or why, but prayed for you all day yesterday & the day before. As you can see, so many of your friends loved Max and we will all miss him and are grieving right along with you. He was by your side before; now he will forever be in your heart. Please know we are praying for you in the days to come that your grief will turn in gentle and loving memories. Sending you love and hugs and a shoulder to cry on. Please let me know if there is anything I can do for you….

  72. I received an unusual surprize when I lost my Jake. The neighborhood pets knew “someone” was missing.
We forget animals have very keen senses. The cats will come around when I’m on the porch, and just
gather either under or around the chair like Jake did. My heart aches for you.

  73. Rose Marie Navas says

So sorry for your loss! It’s never easy!

  74. Susan,
I thought of you on May 30th, when I received an email from Needleworks in Austin, TX regarding the loss of their cat. I saved the email so I could send it to you at the appropriate time. Through the tears, I hope it helps.

    Poem For Cats

And God asked the feline spirit
Are you ready to come home?
Oh, yes, quite so, replied the precious soul
And, as a cat, you know I am most able
    To decide anything for myself.

Are you coming then? asked God.
    Soon, replied the whiskered angel
    But I must come slowly
For my human friends are troubled
For you see, they need me, quite certainly.

But don’t they understand? asked God
    That you’ll never leave them?
That your souls are intertwined. For all eternity?
That nothing is created or destroyed?
It just is….forever and ever and ever.

    Eventually they will understand,
    Replied the glorious cat
For I will whisper into their hearts
That I am always with them
I just am….forever and ever and ever.

Sixteen years ago when I bought the store there was a beautiful Tuxedo cat that lived in the shopping center. Almost immediately he adopted us and a wonderful bond was created. We named him “Medici” and from that day forward he was a permament fixture in the store.

We are not sure how old he was but we guess 23. He had a very pampered life and made us all smile, even when he was trying to bring us presents.

The last year or so he has been living at my house in his own en suite. He lounged the days away on a double bed looking out a picture window.

Yesterday Medici crossed over the Rainbow Bridge.

He will be missed but never ever forgotten.

    Miss you Meds.

I am so sorry for your loss. Those of us with pets understand how devastating this can be even when they have been sick for awhile. Take the time to grieve and you will come through.

I well know the “echo and emptiness” in the heart and in the home that is left to walk through. Had my Schultzie for 14 years, my constant campanion , my comforter and my friend. Best thing I did was, finally give into the grief and not try to hide it. Rainbow’s Bridge was a great comfort to me…
My heart goes out to you..

  80. Oh Susan, I’m so sorry. Max was such a sweetheart, and I know he loved you as much as you loved him. I had a beloved wire-haired fox terrier (Penny) for 16 years, and it wasn’t nearly long enough. There with us for such a short while, but they bring us so much joy and love. Big hugs to you as your work through the grieving. I’ll be thinking of you. –Lucinda

  81. I can’t even read the rest of your homage. I lost my 3rd greyhound 2 months ago and the tears are welling up right now. He’s in heaven.

  82. Dear Susan, I feel so badly for you for I’ve been where you are and know how it feels. So many of us remember the pain of losing a dear one who happens to wear a fur coat always. My Mama called her pets her ‘animal children’ and they truly are our children, in our hearts and minds. I still tear up about our Australian Shepard Pete. My big strong husband cried like a little baby, as did I, when we had to say goodbye to our Pete. There will never be another like him. But we have a lot of wonderful memories and wouldn’t have missed the experience with him for anything! My thoughts and prayers are with you, and I wish you peace.

  83. I’m so sorry Susan. I always loved your posts about your sweet, beautiful Max. He will truly be missed by all of us as well 🙂 Wishing you comfort and peace during this difficult time.

  87. I am so sorry. No words can describe the love one feels for their pet. He was so blessed to have you.

  88. Helen Tarnation says

So sorry to hear about Max…he was such a beautiful, little creature. We lost our Yellow Lab a week ago . Her kidney was removed 15 months ago due to cancer, and we were devastated in Feb. when we learned there was another tumor growing on her other kidney. After 3 more months, she stopped eating and we had to do what was best for her. The good thing is…we will see our furbabies again! Hope Max finds our Hallie…she was raised with kitties an loves them and protects them. I feel your grief…

  89. My dear Susan, I am so sorry to hear about Max passing. Every day when I clicked on your e mail blog updates I would always hold my breath and wonder if “this is the one about Max.” This morning there it was, his name Max and I almost couldn’t scroll down to read your message. I’m sitting here crying because as you know I’m an animal rescuer and have been down the road you are on now too many times to count. It never gets easier when we have to do the most humane and loving thing we can for them, which is to ease their pain in the end. You are a wonderful sweet woman who will be forever blessed because of your loving heart and your Max is sitting at the Rainbow bridge, waiting till mama someday comes to join him. He had such a wonderful life with you and was a very special cat.

I received a cancer of the mouth diagnosis for my Frankie just last week. Thankfully the tumor is on the outer gum in the front of her mouth so it doesn’t interfere with her eating for now. She’s still eating and doing fine and the vet said we’ll just keep an eye and know when it’s time. I rescued Frankie 10 years ago. Her owners moved away and left her. She had on a flea collar that had slipped under one of her front legs and the buckle was eating into her underarm. I rescued her, brought her to the vet and it took 2 months for that wound to heal. Left her with a slight limp due to the muscle loss but she’s been a wonderful dear cat. She adores my husband and is a permanent fixture on his lap. So we are praying and thanking God each day that she is here with us.

God bless you Susan, you are in my prayers.
    Warmest wishes,
    Patsy

I am so sorry for your loss. We lost our last cat to feline leukemia and it was so hard. We didn’t want another cat but one day this black cat with only a stub for a tail wondered into our yard and won us over, we needed him and perhaps he needed us too. That was 7 years ago and he is very much a part of this family.

    • P. Dieckman says

I’m so sorry about Max. I feel your loss because we love our fur babies and it hurts to loose them. Take care.

  91. Susan,

  93. So very sorry for the loss of your special Max. May God give you comfort and peace.

  94. Oh Susan,
I am so very sorry to hear about Max. You did everything you could for Max and think how lucky Max was to come to live with you. He had the best life ever! We will all miss hearing about your devoted Max.

  95. Max was one of the first subjects that drew me to your blog and I even pinned him to Pinterest. He could be my Lily’s brother with very similar coloring and markings. I am so sorry for your pain and loss of this special family member.

  96. With tears rolling down my face, I write this to hopefully comfort you in a small way. For the past two days Max and you have been on my mind – sad news today – may God bless you and Max.

    In Loving Memory of Max

    I’ll Wait

    I explained to St. Peter,
    I’d rather stay here,
    Outside the Pearly Gate.

    I won’t be a nuisance
    I won’t even meow,
I’ll be very patient and wait.

I’ll be here chewing on some celestial catnip
No matter how long you may be.
I”d miss you so much, if I went in alone.
It wouldn’t be Heaven for me.

May time become your best friend and the healing process less painful.

    • Oh, Judith. I was making it okay through all the messages–no tears, just immense sadness. But reading this poem was my undoing. Did you write this yourself, or find it somewhere and keep it at hand. It is so lovely and so heartbreaking. I am copying it and putting it safely away for the next friend who loses a fur baby. I hope you don’t mind sharing. Unless you e-mail me otherwise ([email protected]) I will use your first name as author. I am a Dog Woman, but I have many Kitty Mama friends. I will wait to hear from you. Darlene

  97. May you find blessings in your memories of Max.

  98. Susan I am so sorry! I know you are devastated! Max was a really special cat and a best friend to you. I feel that way about my Charlie Kitty! Keeping you in my prayers!

  99. Focus as much as you can on all the great memories between the two of you; that is how you honor him best. Let everyone love you. Remember that every little moment where you do something that even loosely resembles cracking a smile or just feeling a little bit closer to normal for even a second is his love – that is him actively loving you in that very moment. He loved and loves you enough to get you through this. He’s loved you enough to easily get you through eternity. That love will give you those tiny moments of peace that over time will last a little longer and happen a little more frequently. When someone says something that helps, even a stranger, or you notice a bird hanging around watching you through your windowsill for a long time, they are all his little messengers. Sending you love, and I’m so sorry you’re going through this.

  100. Cats are special and so intuitive. So sorry for your loss. Would love to visit your back porch!!

  101. Marilyn in Mt. Vernon, VA says

I am so very sorry, Susan.

  102. Oh my NO Susan! I am weeping as I am typing this… you see Max is the male look alike to my Cinnamon, who is also in failing health. My heart aches for you and there are not enough words to comfort you.
I do hope you find some relief in knowing Max is now cancer free and watching over!!! ((((hugs))))

  103. Oh hun I am so sorry. A bond with an animal is priceless. I always say I get along with animals better then most people. You were so lucky to have each other. Hugs and prayers….

  104. I am truly sorry to hear about Max. I know how devastating it feels, and only time will make you feel better. I know you will see his spirit for some time, jumping on the bed, waiting at the door- a forever cat!

  105. Susan your joy will come in the memories you have of Max and your heart will sing as you think of these memories during the summer months. There is always the pain of sadness in any loss in this life and God prepares us to learn to let go when the time comes. Will remember you, Max in prayer.

  106. Susan,
So sorry about Max. Pets can really
Be treasures for us . Any loss we experience
Is devastating. One only has to experience
It to really understand. Try to keep busy.
    Ann P.

  107. Dear Susan

I am so very sorry. :'( I don’t have words that are appropriate to console you. Please receive many hugs. Max crossed the Rainbow Bridge to play with other babies.

  108. Sheri Dillon says

Precious Susan. You are a kindred spirit and a tender heart. We’ve all had pets but sometimes one special pet carves a niche in our heart and the hole will never be filled like that again. I know what that feels like because of a yellow lab named Gracie. I’m so sorry Max is gone and I pray that your heart will be comforted. I pray that you find peace and love again when you are ready. May God comfort you in a way that only He can do until that time.

    Blessings,
    Sheri

  109. Dawn Ireland says

    So sorry BIG HUG!

  110. Susan,
So sorry to read about your loss. May your memories of Max give you a special comfort at this time.

  111. Oh, Susan, I am so very sorry to hear this news. Was just thinking of Max the other day, and wanted to ask how he was coming along, but thought better of it. This will take awhile to move on from it, he was a companion to you and a large part of your life. Cry it out as often as possible, that helped me when my cat Sam passed in December. I still feel him jump on the bed at night……..and he also slept on my chest with his face close to mine, he was such a love!!!

I love that Rainbow Bridge poem, and I know there are many waiting for me, and I look forward to that grand reunion!!! But not yet!!! Another love will find me before winter sets in this year……..and I pray that the empty spot in your life will soon be filled…….sending you warm hugs and love…….cleo

  112. I am so sorry for your loss, Susan!
Our pets become members of our families, and losing them is no easier than losing a human loved one. We lost our old Irish Setter girl around this time last year, and my eyes still fill with tears sometimes when we talk about her.
I pray the Lord comforts you through this time of sadness. Take your time to grieve. It is necessary.

  113. Timecard24 says

I am so sorry to hear about Max. I have a big lump in my throat. He was a wonderful friend. I only know him from your blog but in any picture he was in, he lit up the room. I love the pictures of him sleeping on your computer.
God bless you , take time to greive.
    Timecard24

  114. Susan, I am so sorry for your loss. It is so hard to bear the pain. Someone once told me that tears are liquid prayers and God’s way of healing. I cling to that thought and feel your grief over the loss of your beloved Max.

    Karen

  115. Oh Susan, I don’t have any words and can barely see my keyboard for the tears!!! My heart goes out to you, I wish I could hug you and just let you cry all you need… I am so sorry! Max was a very special kitty and will be missed by all of us!
    Hugs and much love,
    Beth P

  116. I was drawn to Max too when I first found your blog. Such a sweet loving kitty and you made his life a life any cat would envy. I know you’re heart is broken and I totally understand having buried many a wonderful cat. You are richer in many ways for knowing him, loving him and caring for him. <3

  117. Selva Iris says

Dear Susan, I’m sad for you and for Max 🙁 I love all the animals, I have 5 cats and 3 dogs rescated from the streets, I love them very much, and I understand your sadness because everybody know how much you love Max. Sorry, I don’t speak enough english. Hugs from Argentina!

  118. I’m so sorry to hear that you lost your furbaby. Hope he’s happy and healthy and chasing butterflies in the sunshine at Rainbow Bridge.

  119. Betty819 says

Susan, I just turned my computer on and went to your email/newsletter telling us the sad news that you have lost Max. I’m so sorry for this loss; and Thank You for sharing him with your blogging followers/fans. What a beautiful animal he was and there was so much love between the two of you. It’s okay to grieve but you as a social worker know that sometimes people need more help to handle the loss of a love one. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. I hope you buried him on your property or bought the urn home with you to place in a special place where Max always loved to be with you.

  120. Susan, my heart breaks for you, and I am so sorry that you’ve lost your beloved Max. Know that you gave him the very best life possible and that he is at peace. May precious memories bring you comfort.

  121. Mary from Virginia says

Aww, I am so sorry. I know you loved Max to pieces. I know it will take a while to feel normal, and certainly it takes a while to adjust to the absence of beloved pet.

You are a wonderful pet owner, and Max was lucky to have you.

Feel free to email if you need to chat. Thinking of you!

    • magenta henry says

I feel almost presumptuous writing an intimate letter to someI don’t know, but I hit “Reply” at a random place because I couldn’t Not replay. On Oct. 11, 2010, I lost Henry, the cat who was most like a child to me of all my cats (I have no children) His bome cancer (for a day symptomless) had been diagnosed only a week before. The blietzkrieg progression was so terrible that I called the vet on the 11th. He madea house call. After Henry was gone, the vet let me keep him till evening, and as the sun was setting I walked him round and round the yard, chanting. Then, as the sun got low and orange, it was time to go. Henry had never been outside in his life, and I’m glad he had the opportunity to see it, even in death. I’m sure he’s waiting for me at the Rainbow Bridge. and I’m equally sure I’ll see him someday.
It’s interesting how many of us respond to the deaths of others’ beloved cats with anecdotes about our own. The grief, at first, is overwhelming and does not lessen easily. But life does go on: Russell, my Maine Coon Rescue, is here comforting me with his soft little voice. It’s taken a long time, but he and Henry’s brother now sleep curled up together.
      I miss you, Henry!
MY DEEPEST SYMPATHIES TO ALL WHO HAVE SUFFERED THIS LOSS.

  122. Having lost a beloved cat from cancer I can sympathize with your loss. I couldn’t talk about him for a week. On the other hand our lives have been enriched by the love given and received by our precious kitty. I send my deepest sympathy!

  123. Susan, I’m so sorry for your loss of Max. I know how badly it hurts to lose a furbaby. {{{gentle hugs}}} for you today and every day. I hope the sweet memories of Max will help fill the hole in your heart.

  124. I am so sorry about Max. I love all the posts and stories about Max and will miss his beautiful presence. My heart is breaking for you. I’ve lost pets and know how you feel.

  125. Terri Hughes says

Susan, so sorry for your loss. I didn’t even know Max, but I am sitting here crying. I know your heart is breaking. It is so hard to lose a pet, they are just like family. I pray that God will comfort you and ease your broken heart. Just remember all the happiness Max brought into your life and all the beautiful memories you will always have with you every day. Max is at peace now. God Bless you, Susan. ”RIP MAX”…..GOD BLESS YOU, ALSO!!!!

  126. Susan I am so very sorry for your loss. I’m crying reading the sad news of his illness. I read the sweet post of Max from last summer and it is a precious story. He was an amazing and beautiful cat. My good thoughts are with you and prayers for healing.

  127. Pat Francoforte says

Sending prayers for healing your heartbreak! Max was one lucky cat!

  128. Susan,

  129. Phyllisa says

Dear Susan, I cried when I read about Max, because he is no longer with us and because I know your heart is broken. This is the time for you to remember that he and you have been greatly loved because you have both given so much to others with your whole heart. Because you are so loved, angels have been sent to be with you to comfort you now. Take strength in the fact that our loved ones that are no longer with us in body will always be with us in spirit.
    Phyllisa

  131. I’m so sorry to hear…our pets become so much a part of our family that they are missed the same as any other family member. You were a very good mommy to him and he loved you for it. I hope you can find comfort in that.

  132. Susan,
I’m so very sorry for your loss.
I will miss the little guy in your posts.

Susan, I am so sorry that you lost your sweet kitty, Max. I love the pics of him you’ve posted- such a beautiful baby. My heart just breaks for you now. Consider yourself hugged; time does help and you will smile again.

    Lydia

  134. I’m so sorry for your loss. Pets are indeed a very special part of our lives.

  135. Words are inadequate at a time like this, however, I am so very sorry for your loss. There’s just no pain like losing a fur baby. They are the highest form of unconditional love here on earth. It doesn’t matter how long we have them, it’s never long enough.

My heart goes out to you and you will be in my prayers.
    xo
    Pat

  136. Aww I’m so sorry Susan. I’ll pray that your heart will heal from this loss.

  137. Aww, I can’t imagine. Hope your holding on.

  138. JoyceB in Atlanta says

Oh, gosh! I’m so sorry. You and Max did everything you could to stay together forever. Now, God will care for him till you are with him again. Have faith and treasure the memories of all your well-loved kitties. Maybe some day we’ll understand why a loving God can allow us to go through such loss that we feel our hearts have been ripped apart. It doesn’t appear that it is to teach us to be callous or less loving. My experience is that, much as I try to be wary of loving too much, each time I find myself loving even more. Could that be the lesson? Could it be so that our hearts grow? Maybe someday we’ll know. Hugs to you.

  139. Sue Lewis says

Dear Susan, All of us who have lost a wonderful and irreplaceable furry family member are grieving with you today! Max had so many friends in your “community” who will miss him as well. A wonderful veterinarian once told me that the only bad part of his job was the fact he always outlived his patients and that he grieved over each loss. Please know we are all sharing your loss and sending you love and consolation.
    Sue

  140. Linda Page says

Dearest Susan, I am crying as I am writing this note to you. It just breaks my heart that you have lost Max but I know that deep in your heart you would rather give him up than see him suffer any more. Max could not have chosen a more perfect person to share his life with than you. I know he has blessed you in many ways and that you blessed his life, too. I look at my Natchez sometimes and the look on his face tells me he is remembering the day I rescued him in Mississippi. I know that I remember the day he came into my life. My thoughts and prayers are with you as you go forward. I know there will be an empty spot in your life but time will heal that and one day you will find the perfect new furr baby to come and share your life. Your long distance friend, Linda

  141. I am so so sorry to hear about Max. You have my sympathy and my prayers.

  143. Patty/BC says

My deepest, heartfelt, condolences to you, Susan. I am so very sad to hear this. I know he was so very special to you, your little soul mate. I hope you find peace and comfort in knowing you gave him a most beautiful life and did everything you could for him his whole life, from rescuing him to providing cancer treatments. I know it is of little meaning, all these words now, but I hope you take care of yourself and find sweetness and strength in his memory. Yes, we will all miss him, but none so much as you. So sorry for you. Take care of yourself, hugs.

  144. Charlene Rakish says

Susan, my thoughts and prayers are with you. Four weeks ago, we lost our beloved Great Dane Dixie. My heart still hurts so I understand your pain. Dixie was 200 pounds of love and kisses. Have watched Max every since I discovered the “porch”. He was a beautiful kitty that I am sure added happiness and love to your life. May God bless and comfort you at this difficult time. We never “get over” the loss of a treasured pet, we learn to “live with it”. Take heart, Max is in a better place and is not suffering.

  145. Linda Totten says

    Susan,
I am truly sorry about Max,, You did all you could and he knew how much you loved him.
Fur friends are forever.. It will take time and you will get better, but you will surely never forget Max. I know all about that hole in your heart. I lost my best friend two years ago.. She was a dog, but to me she was the love of my life.. My days were built around her. Your lifestyle will change now and at times it will be very difficult, but time does help heal the wounds. You have to grieve as much as you need too.. Crying relieves much of the stress.. If you keep it bottled up it is much worse. I still get teary eyed just thinking about my sweet Molly. You will never replace Max, but as big as your heart is you will in time find another kitten that needs your love. It does make it better. I have a new baby, not my Molly, but sweet ever the less.. So stay strong and remember all the good times.

  146. Dear Susan, I am so very sorry. Max has changed your life forever. You will miss him terribly for a long time because there was only one Max. I am so sorry for your loss. xoxoxox, Gina

  147. Susan — I am so sorry. If you haven’t given your heart to a pet (whether cat or dog) you just don’t understand when they leave you. We lost our beloved Oliver last year and it was hard . . . made easier by the adoption 6 weeks earlier of Dolly. They knew each other and I was glad. Big hugs to you — and I am so sorry.

  148. I am so sorry Susan. I understand how you feel and wish I could do something for you. May God bless you and comfort you.

  149. Sharon McMurray says

I’m so sorry, my heart breaks for you! You will be in my prayers. Sharon

  150. Susan: So so sorry for your loss. My heart dropped when I saw your post. I know your heart is breaking. Pets are like family. Sending prayers your way.

  151. It is sooo very hard to lose your pet, your best friend. My heart hurts for you. We don’t know why, but for some reason, God made their life spans shorter than ours. Max is free from pain now and you will see him again on the other side. In the mean time, take care of yourself. He would want you to do that now. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

  153. So sorry you lost your dear little friend.

  154. Susan, I am so sorry for your loss. It’s never easy. May I send strength in your time of need.
    Sharon

  155. I knew I shouldn’t read today’s post, when I saw that sweet little face. I feel so bad for you Susan. It is a horrible feeling. I have cried every day since my boy, Boogie has been gone. Nothing I can say will take the pain away, but know that I am thinking of you and Max.

  156. Barb from Ohio says

    Dear Susan,
So sorry to read of Max passing. I know you are devastated because we lost our Katie dog a year ago last February after having her in our family for almost thirteen years. I know I cried a few times a day for weeks whenever something would remind me of her, it doesn’t take much, but it’s a grieving process you must go through. It does get easier as time goes on, as your mind and heart gets a chance to absorb the loss. You were fortunate to have such a devoted pet and Max was fortunate to have such a caring and loving mom to take care of him. From what I’ve read you did all that was possible to do for him and that is all anyone can do. My thoughts are with you; God bless you.

  157. Susan,
I am so sorry to hear about Max. Please know that I feel that pain and sadness too. We lost our Basset Hound Jasmine last Saturday, very unexpected. She was 14. We need time to heal. I will be thinking of you, and of Max. Maybe he can say hello to Jasmine.

    Nancy

  158. I am so sorry for you loss.
As a cat Mom, I know all too well how this feels.
May time leave you with only good memories.

Dear Susan, My deepest sympathy to you for the loss of your dear Max. Do not ever doubt that he is waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge. Thank you for sharing him with your readers, and letting us enjoy him as well. He was very special, and your Max will not be forgotten.

  162. I’m so sorry you lost Max. The only bad thing about having a pet is that we usually have to let them go too soon. But it’s worth it because of the love and happiness we get from them. Then we are left with wonderful, happy memories.

  163. Oh Susan….my heart just breaks for you as I read your sad words. Lois was right. We all have grown to love and adore sweet Max through your stories and photos, and I thank you for sharing him with us for so long. I know that Max is now chasing butterflies with my darling Toby, chubby Roni, and lovable Hannah… I pray that your heart will be comforted by all of the love and support you have out here in Bloglandia, my friend. ♥

Oh Susan, I am so very sorry for your loss. For many of us, losing a beloved pet is every bit as devastating as losing a family member. They ARE family members! My heart goes out to you, and I hope it provides some small measure of comfort to see the kind and heartfelt responses from your subscribers. I know you miss him terribly.

  165. I am so sorry. This is such a hard thing. Please know your readers are thinking of you and your sweet kitty Max.

  166. I’m so sorry to hear about your precious baby kitty, Susan. He sounds like he was such an exceptional furbaby. I sure do understand how much you’ll miss him. Hugs. Suzy

  167. So sorry for your loss Susan. Our fur babies are so very special in our lives and take a piece of our heart with them when they leave. Thoughts and prayers are with you.

  168. Oh, Susan,
my dear friend, I so wish I could put my arms around you and give you a real HUG!
I’m so very sorry to hear about sweet Max… 🙁 I know it will be inevitable that you’ll be thinking of him and missing him very much… you loved him to pieces and he was so sweet and beautiful… no, wait…
he still IS sweet and beautiful, just only in Heaven! I’m sure, he is happy and just now he is watching over you with his cute little angel wings he’s got and is thankful for the love you gave to him and the wonderful years he could spend with you… I’m also sure he already had a little “talk” with Jesus, to make sure He will heal your broken heart as soon as possible!
~Sending my warmest hugs and lots of love your way, my dear friend~
May God bless you and sweet Max, of course, too!
    Cecilia

  169. Dear Susan,

I am so, so, so sorry for your loss. I’ve been thinking about you and Max a lot lately. It was 2 years ago yesterday that I had to say goodbye to my dear sweet, Izzy. My heart still aches for her. Know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.
    With much love, Debbie

  170. When I saw the caption with just his name I knew it must not be good news. So very sad to hear the news. Just know that he is no longer in pain or suffering. My heart aches for you and this time of grief. God Bless…..you will be in my prayers !!!

  172. My heart breaks for you. We lost our Lhasa in January after 15 years and I miss him every day. Praying for you.

  173. So sorry to hear this Susan. It’s so heartbreaking to lose a furry member of the family. I guess it’s the price we pay for having these lovely creatures in our lives who provides such unconditional love and constant companionship. Hang in there.

  174. Oh, Susan, I’m so sorry to hear that your sweet Max is gone. Hugs & prayers. 🙁

  175. I was so sorry to hear about Max..it is just sad when they go, I know Max was so special to you…I always loved it when you incorporated him into the posts…I do know when you picked him out (or he picked you) at the shelter, he never could have dreamed he would have such a wonderful place to live. He slowly became so familiar with his beautiful new home…he loved that window in the office and the comfortable new footstool…Like Tina he would just follow the sun and you around the house…Hopefully soon you will give that opportunity to a new kitty, perhaps 2 new kitties and let them know what it feels like to live in a beautiful comfortable home with someone who will love them as much as you did Max…May he rest in peace…Your friend Phyllis

  176. Patty Lucas says

Susan, I am so sorry. A pet is in our hearts forever. Someone told me after we lost our second dog within 6 months of each other that the best way to honor our pet was to give another pet a good home which is how I ended up with my first pit bull. We loved her so much we adopted another one. We have also adopted two cats and they are all the loves of our lives. Nothing ever dies when one person remembers them so I think with all of us he will be remembered forever.

  177. Dear Susan,

I am so sorry about Max. We lost our rescue cat of 20 years, Cricket, in February this year. They touch your heart in a way that can’t be measured. I know that our Cricket and your Max re best of pals up at the Rainbow Bridge.

    Cathie

  178. Oh Susan….I am so, so very sorry about Max. I so hate Cancer….that it even has to take our precious pets from us…..It is good you have projects….that will help, along with time. I am so thankful that you have wonderful memories of your baby.

  179. A lot of us know how it feels to lose a loved pet and companion. You have all the wonderful memories and the
    beautiful life you gave Max.

  180. Dear Susan.

I have been travelling and not reading most blogs while away from my home pc. I am so so sad about Max. I am crying, I have a kitty and feel for this loss of yours deeply. I am so truly sorry. We will all miss him!

This is a sweet anonymous poem for lost pets – and a link so you can put his name there at Rainbow Bridge.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

You can keep his memory alive here, should you choose – I am not affiliated, just think this is a neat way to deal with a loving fur baby loss. https://www.rainbowsbridge.com

I bet he is sleeping in the sunshine…watching the birdies….waiting on you by Rainbow bridge….
    Big hugs….

  185. Susan, I’m so sorry and send my prayers and love to you. I lost my first “kitty” Fritz 8 years ago and was heartbroken. Now I have Lucy and Ethel, 2 sisters from the same litter. They are nearly 8 years old now and I dread the day I lose them. May you soon feel peace and joy in your heart, knowing that Max was so loved by you and lived a very happy life with you.

  186. Susan, like all your friends here, my heart goes out to you. I didn’t realize how much I had grown to love Max until the tears started. my thoughts are with you,

Dear Susan: I am sorry sorry to hear that Max has passed on. I like to use that phrase because I believe that is what he has done. His life is continuing and I am sure your paths will cross again. I take comfort in that when I think of the dear kitties who have been a part of my life but are not longer with me. God created all of us and he is continuing to love and cherish dear Max – he is never alone and neither are you. Your love and your bond with him are still strong and will remain so! I still think about my first Kitty, Buster, all the time. He was an important part of our lives for over 20 years and still is. We had a second kitty at the time he passed and she liked being the queen of the household and we had no intention of getting another. But a litter kind of fell into my lap and we ended up keeping two of the kittens. There is such a sweet relationship between the brother and sister and they are such a joy to our family. Let God’s great love for you help to heal your grief and bring you comfort. And I look forward to hearing about a new kitty joining your family when the time is right.
    My prayers are with you.

    Barb

  190. Oh I am so so sorry for you losing a wonderful friend. The truth is I am not always a consistent person in my prayers but after reading about your dear sweet Max I have each and every night prayed that somehow, someway that Max would be given the grace of recovery and could remain with you for some more years to come. I am really sadden to hear of his loss. I am glad that he will not suffer with this horrible disease and I know he will be missed, but please treasure that fact that Max has touched many people and only you know how he has touched your life. Blessings of peace to you. Only time will heal but I understand that that little piece of your heart will forever be empty from his loss. ((HUGS))

  191. Oh Susan, I’m hurting with you. Lost mine last September. My only consultation was that she was not suffering any longer and I know that is how you feel. You did everything you could. We will all see our pets someday. God wouldn’t have any other way. Thanks for your blog. I look forward to reading your post. Sorry I don’t comment enough. Your Louisiana friend.

Susan, I am so sorry that your beloved pet has passed on. It is terribly hard to lose a constant companion with such unconditional love as pets. I will be thinking of you. You awarded his companionship with your love and beautiful surroundings. Take care…

  194. I am so sorry for your loss.

  195. So sorry to read this. I’ve been thinking about you and Max and the special bond you have.

  196. Dear Susan, I am hurting for you, in your loss. May you and Max be reunited one day at the Rainbow Bridge.

    The Rainbow Bridge

‘There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth. It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys with lush green grass.

When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. All the animals who have been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; his eager body begins to quiver. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated.’

  197. Susan, I’m so very sorry your dear sweet boy has passed on. Hugs, my dear. So sorry.

  201. Your loss has rekindled the pain and sorrow I felt when I lost my precious Buck. Max looked so much like him. He was also a sweetheart. Thinking of you.

  202. Heather Pemburn says

The price we pay for loving our pets so dearly… is very high. The pain so very deep when we lose them we may wonder if we will recover and go on without them. We do.
Once the scar forms in our heart to cover the hole they leave, we grow a little tougher. Every time a pet is lost the ache around each scar hurts anew and reminds of previous loss. But because we are “scarred and tougher” from each experience we also know how much better it was to have loved and be loved by those precious furballs! It opens us to risk the pain again…and again. Courage and Comfort to you. May you heal and wear proudly the “tough spot” on your heart that is Max… and remember his perfect Love. There was only one Max and You were blessed with his life. Virtual Hugs to You. So sorry. H.

  203. Susan, I’m so sorry to hear about Max, sending prayers and hugs

  212. No! When I opened your email and read that Max was gone, I gasped out loud. My heart is broken for you. What a wonderful, special love you shared, and I can only imagine how much you will miss him. Our fur babies certainly do take a piece of our hearts with them when they leave us,don’t they?

Grieve as much and as long as you need to sweet Susan, but no matter what, always remember his spirit will never leave you.

  213. Barbara Ann says

I’m so sorry for your loss of a beloved pal. May God hold you close and comfort you.

  214. Susan,
I am SO SORRY. I know all too well the pain of losing a pet.
God did not grant me the gift of motherhood . But when he allowed me the opportunity to have dogs (and cats) in my life he gave me the ability to feel the emotions a really good mother would feel . I can only hope that when my pets leave this earth they rest peacefully knowing that I did nurture, love and protect them as any mother would. For me the only difference is my children walk on 4 legs and are covered with lots of hair. They have been my greatest gift.
    Lori

  215. O Susan, Iam so very sorry for your loss. In the last two weeks I have had three friends lose their beloved pets and now you have lost your beloved Max. It is so hard , I know Ive been down that road before myself and its like nothing you can say or do that helps the pain. Your heart is just broken. My husband and I cried for weeks after we lost our 19 year old dog of old age. We miss him every day and talk of him often. I know we will see him again as well as all of the pets that we have had and loved so much. There will be animals in Heaven. My prayer is that the Lord will help you through this terrible time, and I know He will. Take care of yourself. Love & Hugs, Linda

I know, I know ….it`s always a very HARD TIME to loose such a kind hearted soul !!! It happened to me 5 times in the past 25 years ! By accident (3 times !) , 1 missing , 1 by health issue .(lots of money – nothing helped…) You know what : I always said : Never again-unreplaceable !!! It`s true but one day in January a little grey tabby meowed in the evening on my window (10pm) while I snuggled with a book in a chair . Hungry, tiny- sweet ! ( she stayed – her name is Window) If you are a cat person(lover), they will find you !!! They come into your life /porch – believe!! I always waited and wished – it happened . Now we have 8 (!) cats , they are all different but some of them have big parts of our lost ones
    – optical & character – cats have 7 lives- their souls return ! Another “Between Naps on the porch” companion will find you ! All the best ! Dani & cats

I am so sorry to hear that you lost Max . It will take you a long time to feel better. I lost a little dog we had loved for 16 years. It was so hard on us even knowing he had lived a long life. They are a much loved part of your family. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Yarlette

  229. Susan: Well like everyone here who loves you & Max I too am heartbroken for you. I read your post of how you and Max came together and I had a very similar experience with my Coco dog. I didn’t rescue her from a shelter but I did rescue her. I was referred to this woman by a friend. The 10 mo old puppy was just not working for her and her kids. I walked in the door at her home and Coco (aka Kiki) leaped into my arms. I hadn’t even bent over to pet her yet. I just walked in the door and my arms were full of puppy, as if to say TAKE ME AWAY! Well it was love at first sight and she came into my life exactly one year to the day after my Dad died. I needed her and she needed me. We’ve been together 4 1/2 years now and she is the best dog ever.

Take your time, dig into your bathrooms, and we will all be here when your ready to come back to us. YOU ARE A VERY IMPORTANT PART OF MY DAY.

    Shelley

  233. Oh Susan, I am so sorry for your loss. Our pets give us so much and ask for so little in return. I too know of the empty space in our heart and home when our four legged children are gone. I am a faithful follower of your blog, but necer post a comment. I have had Max in my thoughts as well as you. I know how hard that post must have been to write. Thank you for understanding that we all care, and understand what you are going through.

    Dearest Susan,
I mourn with you in your loss of Max …your Big, Sweet, Baby Boy….What a little Man he was. Such a sweet soul. Love is what this world is about. Max loved you and was so lucky to have you; and ,truth be known he no doubt brought you so much more than you could have ever imagined … ever.

I know of where I speak being the Mom of Several Purr Factories over the years. My Big Sweet Boy Edward went to glory last May after 16 years of loving me and giving me more than I could ever give him….. He is survived by two Sisters 14 and 12 also rescued kitties and Hard Working Purr Factories… Many fur children for me All Loved All worried over All loved me back (thank you DearLord). All gave so much more than I gave them.
Being loved is the best we can hope for in this world and Max following you around like a puppy just proves out how very much he loved you……. Now you will keep him with you in your memories and your broken heart will ache but will continue to beat and healing will come…….slowly but it will come…….altho never completely I think. There is nothing wrong with a little whole in the heart for having loved and lost……..it lets the wind of heaven and the angels songs blow thru…….especially when we need it most. No good hiding your heart…all closed up. No, so God sent down a little soul, a little fur man to help you open your heart more and more. And he did such a good job….wow!

Somewhere I read that Cats purr at the same Frequency of the sound of Human Heart Beat. So when he was lying on your chest you were in a magical world of energy love so strong it plays a symphony on your combined heart strings that goes out to the rest of the world and brings only good, only good….
So now, my Dear…..What a love story you have to treasure and share with us…….Thank you so much for opening yourself so fully and allowing us to mourn with you. Your loss. Our Losses. And, All of our collective loves and sorrows So Raw and yet So Sweet ……….we have been blessed. we have been loved. It is as it should be and it is Good. I am joining the others in sending Luv2U Carole M

    Dear Susan,
I know your pain and my heart breaks for you. We lost our female cat “Callie” almost 4 years ago – she was 15. My male cat “Lil’Bit” is 19 and frail but still hanging in there. We also now have a cocker-lab mix dog, Buddy – who found us. They fill our days and our hearts, don’t they? Prayers of comfort and grace for you as your heart mends. We are all grieving with you. Thank you for your blog – it is a bright spot in my day. God bless.

  249. At Easter we also lost our beloved Tonkinese Ball to cancer, and his brother Pong last Thanksgiving. We are still grieving. They were both very old, 17, and they were such a part of our lives that we still think of them every day. They were both such wonderful pets and companions that their loss is quite palpable in our household. I know what you are feeling, and I’m so very sorry for your loss of Max. I wish you a peaceful heart, knowing that Max will always have a place there with you. Love, Diane

  250. Hi Susan, Such a sad day. I feel your loss so deeply. Please take solace in that he is no longer in pain and discomfort and that he loved you every bit as much as you loved him. The jagged pain you feel will ease up with time but he will always be in your heart. You and Max were a wonderful team.
    Take care.

  251. My heart is broken fOr you and your loss. Max was clearly a very special little guy.
Our last baby died a few weeks after her 22nd bday—she is stILL sO missed.
Her momma took my heart with her to heaven when she passed, I didn’t think I could feel thAt heart broken again. Our pets really do leave permanent foot prints in our souls, don’t they—-
    Catherine

  252. Susan,
I’m so sorry about Max’s passing. He was such a beautiful cat. I have my Callie, also an adopted cat. She had been set loose by her previous owner and was declawed. Some dogs got ahold of her and a neighbor called Animal Control. She had surgery and stayed at the vet’s house while she healed. I had lost my beloved Chester a few weeks prior and was heartbroken, didn’t think I was ready for another cat but wondered into the pet store and it was love at first sight. She let me take her out of the cage and hold her and she looked into my eyes and won me over, right then and there. And the funny thing is that she DESPISES having her paws off the ground! Guess it was just meant to be. She’s been my constant companion for 8 years now. My point is….. I know your heart grieves but don’t rule out the possibility of a new kitty when you feel ready.

    HUGS,
    Terri

  265. Oh Susan, my eyes welled up with tears as soon as I started reading your post. Having just lost my two Yorkies this past year, I know the pain and sadness you are going through. Max had a blessed life with you and you were blessed with him and that special bond that only exists between a human and pet that takes over your heart. Treasure every memory

Susan, I am so very sorry to hear that Max has lost his fight for life. I have been inspired by your blog for over a year now but this is the first time I have written anything, I don’t have a blog of my own. My heart goes out to you at this time. Our furry friends are so special, they are irreplaceable. Please take comfort from the fact that he was aware of how much he was loved, and that you gave him a very happy home, and life for many years. I know this does not help you fill the void that is left, but I hope it may provide some comfort in the coming months. I don’t know about you, but I believe we will see again, all those that we have loved at a time in the future.

  268. I’m so sorry to read this post. One of my cats sleeps his head on my shoulder so I can imagine how lonely you’ll feel and how difficult it’ll be to sleep for you. I know that Max had the best life with you and that wherever he is now, he’s grateful for that and for all the love you gave him.

  269. Oh Susan I am so very sorry to hear about this. It will take a while for you to be able to move forward and even then this will always leave a hole in your heart but I want to leave you with something that somebody gave me when my little girl Sissy had to go to “The Rainbow Bridge”.
The love you and Max shared is a wonderful gift he left you with and beautiful memories to keep…

    “IF IT SHOULD BE”
If it should be that I grow frail and weak and pain should keep me from my sleep, then you must do what must be done for this, the last battle can’t be won.
You will be sad-I understand don’t let your grief then stay your hand.
For this day, more than all the rest, your love and friendship stand the test.
We’ve had so many happy years, what is to come can hold no fears.
You’d not want me to suffer, so when the time comes, please let me go, I know in time you will see it is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its last has waved, from pain and suffering I’ve been saved.
We’ve been so close, we two these years,
Don’t let your heart hold any tears.

    Susan, I am so sorry!
Losing Max must have been so difficult, but remember all the joy he brought into your life, & the joy that you brought into his. Had you not been brave enough to go look for him, when the time was right after the loss of your first cats, neither of you would have had that joy. Perhaps the 3 of them are getting better acquainted on the other side, remembering you!

We know the pain you are feeling but remember Max would not want you to suffer because of him. God bless you and and the wonderful Max.

  280. Susan, my heart goes out to you. I know this is such a hard place to be. We love our pets and they love us. You were a great Mom to Max, and he gave you back so much more. All of us are feeling your pain and we are thinking of you during this difficult time.

  281. Oh Susan I cry with you. death has such a sting and hurts so much. I know the loss is great. I know the days will be hard without dear Max please find comfort knowing we Love you and are praying for you.
    Hugs, Debbie

  282. Susan, I am so sorry about your loss and I am sending big hugs your way.
    xx,
    Sherry

  283. Susan, you have been so much on my mind. I have been dreading this day because I know how much Max meant to you. You were there for Max when he needed you and you gave him a good, happy, comfortable life. I know you are feeling bereft; you have lost a very important family member. But, trust me, you will get through this bad time — though right now you can’t imagine how — and the hole in your heart will fill with warm, happy, loving memories of Max that will assuage the pain you are feeling. And, when you are ready, but not a moment before, Max’s sweet spirit will guide another furry friend who needs you into your heart.

  284. Oh Susan…I am so sorry about Max. Our kitties become such a special part of our lives. I always enjoyed Max’s presence in your posts and could always tell how much a part of your life he was. Even though you will miss him terribly, take comfort in knowing what a wonderful life he had with you and that you did all you could for him.

  285. I’m so sorry, Susan. I can’t even imagine how you must feel.

  286. Lassiegirl says

My prayer is for comfort to be given to you. These are the hard days, but days will come when your memories will give you comfort and then they will give you smiles because the love lives on forever. You will always feel him near in your heart. Thank God for the gifts we are given in the form of furry forever friends. So sorry for your loss and pain.

  287. 🙁 I’m so sad for you…

  288. Linda DeFazio says

I’m so sorry Susan. Our lives are so filled with joy with our pets. I have a 19-year-old sweet kitty who is having on and off kidney failure now. I treasure every day we have with her. Her sister left us 2 years ago at age 13. The memories they make having me laughing most of the time, smiling and remembering their love. They take that love with them and hold it in their hearts. A bond that is there forever. Mourn, but remember the sweet times….. they do.
    Blessings,
    Linda

Oh Susan, there are just no words to make this better, are there? I’m so sorry! I know it hurts. Like a loved one, he will always hold that special place in your heart. You were a good Mom, and he was a good companion. I’m sorry you didn’t get more time together. Hugs to you. You’ll be in my prayers.

  290. I am so, so sorry Susan. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Hugs.

  293. Lisa Conforto says

Bless you and your family, may the legend of Max live on in your heart.

  294. Susan, I am so uncertain what to say. “I’m sorry” is the meaning, but those words are just too small for all this emotion I am feeling. I am so glad that you are surrounded by all of these wonderful women who have also had cats–they can offer condolences from familiarity. I have been a Dog Woman for my whole life, and I have lost 4 over the past 25 years–so I can tell you that I have felt pain, but I can’t say I know how you feel, because we can’t really know. We can remember what we felt, but you are feeling the hurt that belongs to you and Max alone. I just want you to know that my heart is hurting for you because, even th0ugh we have never met and probably never will, you have brought great joy to my life with the warmth of your posts and the beauty of the images you create to share with us all over the world. Max was elegant and beautiful and he so fit into your world. He will be missed by all of us, but only you have him in your heart–and he will be there as long as that heart is beating. Then, when your heart is still, you and Max will be together again. He will be purring, and you will be at peace. Love, Darlene

  295. Susan, I’m so sorry to hear about sweet Max. I know how it is to lose a four-legged member of the family. Max was lucky to have found you and I hope your memories provide you comfort in time. Chloe & Gracie send doggy kisses your way.

  296. Dear Susan, I am so very sorry. I know how you feel. I had a cat named Valentine, she was a gift to me from my husband on Valentines. She was always partial to me – my constant companion. We had many wonderful years. We’ve also lost a family dog and I think very soon our little Doxie. She’s been sick and I hate to see her in pain. My heart and prayers go out to you – our dear pets add so much to our lives.
    Hugs,
    Kathy

  298. I know just how you feel. We have lost several beloved cats and one that was with us for almost 19 years! This bring us such comfort and joy. My God heal your breaking heart and know that Max was such a blessing to have you!

  299. So very sorry, Susan. I’m a cat person too and it breaks my heart whenever we lose a feline friend. Max was a very special cat with a wonderful personality. You gave him a loving home for many years. I always pray that God will take my lost pets to heaven … that may seem silly to some but they are one of God’s beautiful creations so why wouldn’t He take them up so we can see them when we arrive at His home? Hoping you will find comfort in the days to come knowing you gave Max the best life he could have had.

  300. Susan, I’m so so sorry to hear that. Been praying for you both. It’s so hard to lose someone we love. I love my darling cat, so I know how you must feel.

  301. So sorry Susan.

    Cheryl

  302. I know you feel so lost without your constant companion. I lost my sweet poodle, Max, a year ago Christmas and still have a hole in my life. Console yourself with the sweet loving life you gave him. You did everything you could. Blessings and prayers to you.

  303. Susan, I”m deeply sorry that your sweet boy passed and know how terribly hard it is. You are in my prayers.

  304. Susan, I am so sorry to hear of your heartbreaking loss.

  306. I wanted to add my condolences for your loss…We buried our cat, Phoebe, last Monday. She was also 13 years old and I miss her even more than I expected I would. I understand the pain! May you find comfort in the memories…

  307. Susan I am truly heartbroken hearing the news about Max.I know how hard it is too lose a furry companion. We lost our Cleo 8 years ago.And like you we were devastated.I never wanted to experience that type of heartbreak again. My daughter was small when Cleo died. She did not understand it all but still it was hard for us all.Well four years after Cleo died my daughter asked my husband and I if we could get a dog or a cat.We did not want to as we were still mourning our Cleo. But we were feeling like we were not being fair to our daughter.I know how important it is to have a pet as a companion. After researching we decided a cat was a better fit for our family. We searched and searched and found out Tabitha. She was rescued after a family decided that they did not want a cat.Right before we adopted her she was very ill and almost died. Then we found her and we are so blessed we did.I think an Angel was watching over her.So glad that she is in our lives.I know that in time you may want to get a companion again. And no cat will ever replace Max.Our Tabitha is nothing like Cleo.We still consider Cleo as our family member although she is not here.Tabitha does not replace Cleo but is a new family member that we are blessed to have.I know in time it will get easier I promise. But for now hold the memories in your heart. He will always be with you! It is funny years after Cleo has been gone occasionally I think I still see her running around a corner. And it is not just me but my daughter and husband say the same thing!I bet your Max is with you always too!

Dearest Susan, how terribly heartbreaking for you! He was a beautiful soul and was as blessed to share his life with you as you were to share yours with him. 315. So sorry to hear your heartbreaking news. I know you have lots of fond memories that help ease the sadness of saying goodbye.

  316. So sorry to hear of your loss. Max was a treasure and be glad that the two of you had each for now what seems like a short time. He will be waiting for you across the Rainbow Bridge.

Susan, I come to your blog quiet often. It gives me a lift! I have read stories of your Max and he must have been somewhat of a furry therapist. I know mine is. It made me cry when I read you lost him. Makes my heart ache for you. We have had many animals over the years that just killed my heart everytime one died. He was so beautiful! I do hope in time you can bring yourself to adopt another. These animals mean so much to us. Please know I am thinking of you and in time things do seem to get better. I love your blog so I will keep coming back.

  318. There’s something missing in my home,

I feel it day and night,

I know it will take time and strength

    Before things feel quite right.

But just for now, I need to mourn,

    My heart-it needs to mend,

Though some may say it’s “just a pet”

    I know I’ve lost a friend

You’ve brought such laughter to my home,

    And richness to my days…

A constant friend through joy or loss,

    With gentle, loving ways.

    Companion, pal, and confidante,

    A friend I won’t forget,

You’ll live for always in my heart,

    My gentle, forever pet…

    Max

Susan, I’m so very sorry to hear that Max is not with you in body anymore. He has had such a good loving life with you since the day you got him from the shelter. He was placed there so that you could adopt him. He was such a beautiful kitty and I know that you will miss him terribly. I don’t post much on your site, but wanted you to know how deeply sorry I am.

  320. Susan….my deepest sympathy to you. Max was a joy to all of us and we will miss him….take care of yourself friend.

  321. Miss you sweet Max.

  322. Am so sorry about your loss and the death of Max. As so many, I too, have similar stories in regard to all of my current and deceased animals, and with each loss, it feels as if one will never be whole again. Healing does occur, on some level, at some point, but I do believe that for many of us, the deep loss remains with us as a great loss and never forgotten. In many ways, certain loss is easier with age (I’m 60). However, animal loss is just as acute now as it was when I was young. That being said, perhaps it is a measure of just how much of a soul mate, or kindred spirit, our animals can become, or do so immediately upon meeting us and becoming part of our lives. From your postings, it sounds as if Max certainly trusted you with his life, and in doing so, filled your life with a joy and peace that only they can bring to us. As many have already stated, I am also holding you and Max in warm thoughts and prayers as you also transition during this time, just as Max has.

  323. Just saw your post about MAX. I am so very very sorry. I know you had been living with the possibility that the end could be near, but it is still shocking when it happens. May your grief lessen with each passing day.

  324. I am not a cat person (allergies) but I do know love, loss and pain. God bless you for all you did for Max. His little angel spirit will watch over you. You gave him many years of happiness which he wouldn’t have had were it not for you.

  325. Susan,
So sorry for your loss of Max! I pray for you now and in the days to come. I feel for you! You will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.

  326. There is nothing to say that has not already been said but let me emphasize that you gave Max a loving, happy, warm and safe place for 13+ years. His life was happy and sweet and blessed. Take some comfort in that. Take comfort also that he is in heaven with other angel kitties like my sweet Oliver. I comfort myself and my children knowing that these angel kitties are probably with Angel babies in heaven who needed them. I also comfort myself knowing that I somehow improved the life of a sweet cat and, just like all things, that comes full circle. Bless you and Max.

  327. So sorry to hear about your loss of Max. I enjoyed seeing him in your post. We lost our Little Bit last year after having him for 11 years, so I know how much you miss Max. My thoughts are with you.

    Susan,
Just reading about Max this morning. I’m so sorry as this mirrors the loss of our Mittens a few years ago. I believe Max is in a better place where he’s not suffering any longer. As for you, in time you’ll come through and you’ll still have all the great memories and the great pictures of him, too. Please know that we enjoyed your sharing Maxi on your blog with all of us! Wishing you better days ahead. They will come.

Oh, Susan, I am just now finding out about your beloved Max and I am so, so sorry. I will so miss seeing him in your blog posts. Such a sweet, sweet kitty. I loved the Rainbow Bridge story. Have never heard that before with pets I have lost in the past. I will be praying for your healing — losing a pet is one of the hardest things to have to go thru……..

  331. Donna Babbitt says

I am completely convinced that animals have angelic properties…………………………………they comfort, they delight, and their loyalty knows no bounds. We pet our pain and sorrows into their fur and they purr for us as if to tell us it will be ok. Max was a love, I always looked for him in a picture, he always made me smile. I am just so sorry. You should write a book sometime, maybe a childrens book about Max’s adoption and your life together, I will buy it. What a tribute to your dear little friend that would be. God keep and comfort you.

  332. My heart breaks for you Susan. It’s so hard to lose a pet..one that you have cared for and loved so deeply like your adorable Max. He sure was a beauty! And so sweet. I read your post about adopting him and how he chose you as his “Mom”. May you find some comfort from our condolences – wish we could do more to help you through this sad time.

  333. I’m so very, very sorry. I know that your heart is breaking. You were such a good mom to Max and he returned your love. You made a huge difference in his life and I know he made one in yours. Give yourself time to grieve. He was a beautiful boy.

  339. Oh, Susan, I’m so sorry for your loss. Animals are vessels for love and you and Max shared so much of it. My heart joins in your sorrow.

  340. Dear Susan,
Your loss of dear Max is great and deep, but I believe you will see him again one day. Yes, I am one of those crazy people who believe our pets go to Heaven and we will have another opportunity to love them again. Hang in there and keep yourself busy, but crying is healing. Remember that tears are just liquid love. Take care!

Susan… Your heart is broken… and my heart aches for you. I’ve walked your road many times in the past years. Have had you in my thoughts since Max went to be with the other kitty angels. You’ll truly miss that special little feller… treasure your years of memories with him.

  342. Susan,
So sorry to hear about Max. I just had to put my dear kitty Lucy to sleep a week ago today due to kidney disease. When I read your post saturday I knew we were sharing a lot of the same feelings at that time. I hope you are healing day by day. It is hard to adjust to life without our friends. Take care, Beth

  343. Susan, I’ve prayed for you and cried for you. I hope you are finding some peace and comfort. I think of you several times each day. Ann

  345. Susan, I am so very sorry about Max. I know what you are going through losing of your faithful companion. So many that have no pets do not understand how much these sweet fur balls become a big part of our lives. I have been praying for you and Max and will keep praying for you. Hugs. marlis

  346. Was on vacation for a few days and did not spend much time online. I’m so sorry about your beloved Max. May family has three cats, one of them also named Max. I’ve had cats or dogs for most of my life and losing any of them has been like losing human family- they are all so dear to us. Thinking of you.

  347. So sorry to hear about your Max. He was such a beautiful cat. He reminded me of my Samantha. Similar markings, but she didn’t have the patch on the eye. She’s not with us any longer either, but there are some cats you just don’t forget. Praying your heavy heart will be lifted with only sweet memories.

  348. Beverly Axen says

Our beloved cat, Pharoah, died at 22 years of age a couple years ago. He was a great cat. He would go on walks with us as we walked the dogs, staying 10 feet behind. Pharoah ended up with diabetes and we gave him insulin twice a day. Every memory you wrote about Max we had with Pharoah. We had two dogs and another cat and he was the Alpha male even with a Jack Russel terrier in the house! My son would mow lawns putting the cat around his neck and Pharoah was never fazed by the noise of the mower. Pharoah took on any animal in the neighborhood that would pose a threat to his territory. He even once tangled with a raccoon. There was a lot of commotion and Pharoah needed stitches but the raccoon stayed away too. It was hard to see him die but he lived a good, long life.

  349. Susan, I am so sorry to have read about Max. He looked like such a little gentleman — and a little furry angel with a mom who truly loved him. About 15 years ago I moved from Tennessee up to Pennsylvania , and brought all 12 of my cats and my dog with me. All of the cats were about the same age. Through the years I have lost a few, but still was blessed with having 9 healthy kitties left (all about 17 years old). Early last year I was diagnosed with breast cancer; had a mastectomy, chemotherapy, and radiation. It was truly the worst year of my life. For 9 months I layed in bed too weak and sick to get up. My 9 little angels never left my side. They all slept beside me, or on top of me. All day. All night. They didn’t know what was wrong with their Mom, but they knew something was terribly wrong. I finally recovered and have gotten back to my life. But shortly after I was able to “get up and around” again, I started losing my kitties one by one. I have lost 6 of them within the last year. I truly feel, with all of them so old, that they just wanted to stay with their Mom until she was better. And then it was time for them to go. It’s so comforting to have these little bundles of unconditional love in our lives. They loved me when I was bald; they loved me when I hadn’t showered in 3 days; they loved me when I had a bucket beside my bed. No judgement. No words. Just love. And purrs. And happy feet. My little angels were about the only thing that helped me get through that worst year of my life. Bless you, Susan. You and Max are in my prayers. One day down the road, thinking of Max will not bring tears to your eyes. But thinking of him will warm your heart and bring you a smile because you were blessed to have shared your life with such a wonderful little guy. Cause these pets of ours truly show us the meaning of sweet, innocent, unconditional love. And it’s pretty awesome.

    • Lynn, I’m so sorry you had to go through a year like that. Glad your furbabies were with you through it all. Their love is so pure and so unconditional, as you mentioned. And they are so intuitive. They know when we are not well. Max was always trying to take care of me if I was upset or sick. We were so close. I’m so sorry you are having to go through losing them now. I had three kitties that were all around a year apart and they each lived to 16, 17 and 18 so I was losing one almost every year. I’m glad your treatment is behind you. I hope you have nothing but blessed, happy days from here out. I hope we see our furbabies again one day, that’s what I wish for with all my heart.

      • Oh Susan, you are so sweet. Thank you for your kind words. We will get through this!

On a lighter note, I want you to know I just absolutely love your posts. One of my friends from Tennessee “liked” you and it showed up on my Facebook page. I was kind of curious as to what exactly “Between Naps on the Porch” might be. I opened it up and absolutely fell in love. It is just the coolest site. It’s like whenever you post, I get to go on a peaceful, wonderful vacation — even if for just a few minutes. Seriously. The things you share are just so beautiful — some of them downright breathtaking. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this. You’re wonderful! Did I read on your post that “Between Naps on the Porch” was sort of named after Max? Because from your pictures, it sure looks like he liked to “nap on the porch”. And all the stuff he liked to do between those naps. >^<

Thanks again, Susan. You take care. And keep on writing. I may never be able to afford to live like "the other half" does and how your pictures show — but I can still dream! And that I certainly do (with the help of people like you!).

        • I know what you mean…I can’t either but I do love looking. Thanks for those kind words, Lynn. It’s my hope that BNOTP makes folks happy so that makes my day to hear you enjoy it. About the name, a friend suggested the blog name when I first got a notion to start blogging. Max must have taken it to heart because he did love napping out there.

  350. Denise Davis says

Susan, I am so sorry for your loss. Max is at Rainbow’s Bridge with endless sunshine, food and friends. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.

  351. I’m so sorry about Max. 🙁

  352. I commented on Max’s original post also…… I’m so sorry to have read this, it’s devastating. I visit your blog often, and I love it, although I rarely comment. I loved reading about Max, he was gorgeous. We lost our 13 year old Max to small bowel cancer on June 2, he also started getting ill around the same time as your Max. Losing a pet is a hurt so painful that nothing makes it feel better. Hopefully your Max and mine are on the other side together chasing butterflies and having a grand old time.

    • I hope so Holly and I pray that we will see them again. I counting on that! Heaven will not be heaven without our furbabies.

    • Why are all our furbabies getting colon cancer? I’ve talked to so many folks whose cats have gotten that.

      • Susan, after many hours of research, talking to our vet, and several feline nutritionists, I’ve painfully learned that cats should not have dry food in any form. Their bodies were not made to handle the proteins in the grains in dry food (and some canned), regardless of the quality. There is a big rise in feline bowel cancers. Our Max’s cancer was diffuse neoplastic mast cell cancer, which was directly caused by the grain proteins in his food, his body couldn’t handle them and the mast cells went crazy trying to fight off the proteins. He never showed any signs that anything was wrong until it was way too late. We’ve switched all of our remaining cats to Fancy Feast Classics, which are gluten and grain free.

        • Max ate very little dry. He didn’t care for it and ate almost nothing but canned the 12-13 years he lived with me. When I adopted him from a shelter, my regular vet estimated he was around 3-4 years old. I asked the Oncologist (Cancer doctor) at Georgia Veterinary Specialist what could have caused Max’s cancer and they said that studies show the type cancer he had is genetic. I can tell you, I had three kitties that lived to be 16, 17 and 18 and they ate both dry and canned food and none of them died of cancer. They all died of kidney failure, which is what I thought would happen to Max since his kidneys were starting to have issues. He also had heart problems. I wonder sometimes if it’s the chlorine in water that gets their kidneys, or maybe it’s just old age.

Anyway, they did a biopsy of Max’s tumor in his intestines and told me the kind of cancer Max had was genetic. They said he had lymphoma blastic. Later on, when his lungs kept filling with fluid, they thought he may have also had Feline Leukemia and tested him for that too. It came back negative but they said he still might have it in the bone marrow and the only way to check that would be a bone marrow test which they didn’t recommend since he was terminal and that test is so invasive.

This is the risk when you adopt an older kitty from a shelter like I did, you may get one with diseases (like Feline Leukemia). My regular vet over the years told me that Max may have also have Feline Herpes in his lungs because during the 12-13 years he lived with me, he had two episodes of lung problems that tried to go into pneumonia and required a heavy duty antibiotic to get rid of. Feline Herpes and Feline Leukemia are common diseases that stray cats can get when attacked by a cat that already has it. So who knows, he may have had Feline Leukemia all along and it was in remission. Max was the first “older” cat I had ever adopted, we had previously adopted kittens.

Do not beat yourself up if you fed you cats dry food because my son fed his cat, Haley (that we adopted for him as a kitten) strictly dry food her entire life and she just died about two months ago at the age of 18. And as I mentioned, I had three cats that lived to be 16, 17 and 18 and they all ate both dry and canned food…dry for breakfast and canned at night. The reason I gave them dry was to help with their teeth/gums. I hope that makes you feel better about the dry food. I just don’t think these vets totally know what causes cancer.

        • Oh Holly, one more thing. I don’t know how the “Wellness” brand of kitty food compares to Fancy Feast Classics, but that was Max’s favorite food toward the end. I had always fed him Fancy Feast Classic because that was all he liked (and he still got cancer) but after he got sick and wouldn’t eat hardly anything, he ADORED the Wellness Trout and Wellness Salmon, really almost all the Wellness flavors. Wellness is supposed to be all natural, I got it at Pet Smart. When I told one of the women who worked for the Oncologist at Georgia Veterinary Specialist that I had discovered this all natural food that Max loved called Wellness, she said that was all she fed her cats so that made me feel good. I wish I had known about the Wellness brand before Max ever got sick.

Dear Susan: I am so very sorry to hear about your belovd Max’s passing. Our fur babies (feline for you and in my case canine) are such a special part of our lives. And they live on in our hearts and our memories. I know that you hurt but I want to encourage you to celebrate dear Max’s life the best day of which was the day you walked into it and took him home. I have lost two dogs over the years and not a day goes by that I don’t think about each of them. I have pictures of them in my bedroom and I keep a battery operated candle on 24/7 next to their pictures as a perpetual light symbol of their life. Take special care and know that you and Max are in my thoughts and prayers.

  354. Oh Susan, that’s horrible, genetic cancer. It’s like they are doomed from the start. Our cats like the Wellness, too, but I’ve been buying Fancy Feast. Wellness is a great food and ingredients are sourced in the USA. Our Ragdoll is starting to get finicky with the canned FF so it may be time for a change, at least for him. I have been torturing myself over the dry food, and I really shouldn’t. I had a feral rescue who lived to be 20. In her time on earth, she was hit by a car and lost her front leg, had many chronic horrible upper resp infections, died on the table at the vet having teeth out, was brought back and had brain damage, so I fed her via feeding tube until she “remembered” how to eat, lost her eyesight the last year of her life from high blood pressure, and had a hyperthyroid. She had the most horrible diet and lived out in the worst conditions for the first 8 years of her life. She was pampered and spoiled the last 12 of it. You really don’t know what your critter will be like. You try to take the best care of them possible. The only thing that makes us feel better after having lost one is knowing we gave them a great life and they were loved, and they knew it. Our Max and his brother almost went to live on a farm and would have, if I didn’t adopt them. I can’t imagine.

  355. Hi Susan, I was really loved Max’s story. I love how you found each other and how important he knew he was, to you. Carey Herin shared the story with me, we are coworkers and friends and I am a great lover of kitties too. I enjoy reading your articles, thank you.

    • Thanks so much, Leslie! I still miss Max so much, words can’t say. We had a very special bond and I’ll never forget him…find myself tearing up as I write this. I know you know what I mean since you love kitties, too. I hope we all see our kitty babies again one day, that would be heaven for me.
