Napkin Fold Tutorial: The Butterfly

Recently, I created a table setting with a butterfly napkin fold. (You can view this tablescape in detail here: Romantic Table Setting for Two.)

I used this same napkin fold again for this table setting which can be viewed in full here: Romantic Candlelight Table Setting.

This fold is super easy to create.  I think it looks especially nice when created with a napkin that has a scalloped edge. Hope you enjoy this butterfly napkin fold tutorial.  (The lens cap is just there to give the camera something to focus on.)

Forgot to include this in the instructions (dang it) but you’ll need to turn your napkin over before doing the next part of the fold.

I wonder how it would look with a couple of sprigs of lavender tucked into the very top for little antenna.

You’ll find additional napkin tutorials under the Tablescapes/Napkin Folding category at the top of BNOTP.

  1. Oooo, I can't wait to try this, Susan! Of course, having such pretty napkins with those scalloped edges makes yours look even more realistic. Great Tut!

Your tablescape was wonderful, too & I have been seriously coveting your beautiful red stems since I saw them 2 Christmas' ago! *sigh*

Thanks for this tutorial. I am going to look for some napkins with a scalloped border so that I can do this. So pretty!

  3. Now this I have to try.. What a fun fold. Thanks so much for sharing your indepth tutorial.. so easy to follow! xo marlis

  4. I guess I have to have company over soon so I can use this.
    Very cute.
I did the pinwheel fold a couple weeks ago. Doesn't go as planned when your napkins are not perfectly square. Linen never stays even after you wash them.

  5. I wonder if I could get my Bounty's to fold like that…heehee

  8. That was cute Susan. As I was reading the process of the folds, it reminded me of those paper wish things we made when younger!! 🙂
