In The BNOTP Library: Southern Christmas

Though the book I’m sharing today is filled with beautiful pictures and wonderful scenes of Christmas, it’s also jam-packed with information and the history of why we decorate the way we do, all the way from Maryland down to the most southern states. If you love an old fashioned Christmas filled with tradition, you’ll love this book.

Southern Christmas by Emyl Jenkins

3 Things I Like About This Book:

  • Explains a lot of the history behind the decorations you see in southern homes during the Christmas season, ranging all the way from Maryland to the most southern states, including Texas. So much information packed into this book! We visit private homes, museums, grand hotels and country inns.
  • Very nostalgic, traditional type book, so definitely a book for the sentimental heart who loves a traditional Christmas. Many of the decorations use greenery from the yard, combined with fruit and other homemade decorations.
  • Contains recipes for egg nog, sweet potato pudding, oyster pie and Virginia pound cake.

  1. You’re the best! Thank you for sharing all the neat “stuff” with us. Can’t wait to see what’s up next.

  2. I hadn’t thought there could be a southern style to Christmas, but that makes sense as they would probably have more and different greens–even fruit–available.

  3. Hi Susan, Thanks for the info! Believe it or not, I have a cookbook by this author, and it has some good recipes in it. I knew she was southern; I was thinking maybe from Virginia(?) Anyway, this looks like my kind of book, and I can get a new hardback through Amazon for a great price.

    Have a good weekend!

    Hugs,

    Denise

    Susan, I can so see you writing a book like this one day. It would be right up your alley, even if it weren’t about Christmas. I can even picture you on the cover!

    I have 2 year-end ??s for you:
    1. Name of sham stuffer pillow site;
    2. Name of the blog by Okla.City lady, Cherie/Cherri/Cheri Kay, she does tabletops, and always has a plug for her talented daughters music… some of my blog connections have “evaporated” into cyberspace and her blog was always a treat. I found her thru BNOTP. Again, kindest regards and thanks.
