Though the book I’m sharing today is an older book, it’s written about a topic that’s classic and forever in style: English Design.
In the BNOTP Library: The Art of Decoration
Author: Nina Camptbell
Hardcover: 160 pages
3 Things I Like About This Book:
- One of Nina Campbell’s first jobs was working with John Fowler of Colefax and Fowler. You can see John Fowler’s influence in her designs. Nina also worked with Mark Birley and the American decorator, Elsie de Wolfe.
- Though this book was written many years ago, the designs featured inside are classic and traditional, so forever relevant and beautiful. I really enjoyed the detail she goes into in describing how and why she made certain design choices for rooms, especially regarding the furniture and fabrics. It’s a little like being inside a designer’s head as she designs the interiors for ten different clients. Each chapter starts with a gorgeous fabric or wallpaper design on the opposite page. I loved seeing those and they just build up excitement for the chapter ahead.
- To give you an idea of the homes we go inside in this book, the chapters are titled: Classic English Style, A Banker’s Retreat, A Baronial Castle, New for Old, East Meets West, Small But Stylish, An English Country House, Rooftop Drama, Town and Country and Elegance in Miniature. This is a great book for anyone who enjoy classic English style and design.
