It was the title that drew me to this book, loving English design as I do, but this is far from your average decorating or design book.
In the BNOTP Library: The Englishman’s Room
Author: Alvide Lees-Milne
Hardcover: 144 pages
Book Size: 10.8 x 8.6 x 0.8
3 Things I Like About This Book:
- The author had 31 Englishmen share about their favorite room and why it’s their favorite. Surprisingly, not all the rooms are in England.
- The Englishmen come from all walks of life…artists, teachers, authors, actors, etc…. Some are well-known like designer David Hicks, actor Sir Arthur John Gielgud and the Duke of Devonshire.
- These are real rooms, much-loved rooms and it’s fascinating and heart-warming hearing these men share why their favorite room has special meaning in their life. My favorites are the sitting rooms, libraries and studies. They are all wonderful, though. The photography in this book is warm and intimate.
I just discovered this author also wrote a book called, The Englishwoman’s House. Since I liked this book so much, I just ordered it, as well. If I love it, I’ll be sure to share it, too. This is the 9th book I’ve shared on English design, you’ll find the other 8 here: Books About English Design or Decor
