In The BNOTP Library: The Englishman’s Room

It was the title that drew me to this book, loving English design as I do, but this is far from your average decorating or design book.

The Englishman's Room

3 Things I Like About This Book:

  • The author had 31 Englishmen share about their favorite room and why it’s their favorite. Surprisingly, not all the rooms are in England.
  • The Englishmen come from all walks of life…artists, teachers, authors, actors, etc…. Some are well-known like designer David Hicks, actor Sir Arthur John Gielgud and the Duke of Devonshire.
  • These are real rooms, much-loved rooms and it’s fascinating and heart-warming hearing these men share why their favorite room has special meaning in their life. My favorites are the sitting rooms, libraries and studies. They are all wonderful, though. The photography in this book is warm and intimate.

I just discovered this author also wrote a book called, The Englishwoman’s House. Since I liked this book so much, I just ordered it, as well. If I love it, I’ll be sure to share it, too. This is the 9th book I’ve shared on English design, you’ll find the other 8 here: Books About English Design or Decor

Susan, this sounds great. You must have more decor books than anybody in the world! I think I’d go broke buying them all and they ALL sound so great! Going to see about getting this one. Thanks.

    • It’s easy to collect your faves if you don’t mind waiting a year or two after they first come out. You can find them on Amazon in “very good” or “like new” condition for sometimes as little as a penny plus 3.99 for shipping, which is less than the cost of most decor magazines today. I prefer the books over the magazines…no ads, just great content. I almost never buy a book when it first comes out, there have only been a few exceptions like Mario Buatta’s book and One Man’s Folly. Those were too good to wait. I’ll tell you has an amazing decor library is Joni at Cote de Texas. I’d love to spend a few hours in a comfy chair surrounded by books from her library! 🙂
