The Porch Hutch Gets a Makeover For Spring and Summer

Welcome to the 319th Metamorphosis Monday!

This has been the wackiest week with 75 degree temps on Wednesday, snow on Friday and back up to 70 on Sunday. Has the weather been this up and down where you live, too?

With the warm temps returning yesterday, I spent some time out on the porch cleaning a little and getting it ready for  the warm days ahead. After cleaning the dust and grime of winter off the porch hutch, I decided to give it a summer makeover.

Sometimes I hang a large platter above the hutch but this time I just added an oar found in Marshall’s a couple of years ago. I noticed when I stopped by a few days ago, they had some cute ones in again.

Even though I’m at least five-six hours away from the nearest ocean, I still love bringing a little beachy fun to the porch.

The plates are by David Carter Brown and the pattern is called Driftwood.

You may remember seeing them in this tablescape last summer. (Table setting can be viewed in detail here: Nautical Table Setting)

I love finding new ways to use things I already have whenever possible. The blue and green pails have appeared before on the blog. Do they look a little familiar?

I think the first time I used them was for this Easter table setting. (Table setting can be viewed in detail here: An Easter Spring Table Setting)

They were filled with colorful eggs that day.

Today they are filled with shells and starfish.

  4. Oh those plates Susan – just beautiful !
We’re still white here in Montreal but they’re calling for warmer temps this week – hoping beyond hope a lot of it melts !
Thanks so much for the party

  7. Hi Susan! Oh, I love the new look in your hutch (love the little hutch too). Your entire porch looks so gorgeous and ready for spring! Hope you’re doing well. We’re still covered up in snow!
Be a sweetie and thanks for hosting,
    Shelia 😉

  8. This turned out so cute! Love the dishes- the buckets filled with the seashells are my favorite! We are warming up to the 40’s this week which to us is like a heat wave! Sounds like you’ve moved into the fast lane of spring there!

  9. Your porch looks so cute, Susan! Yesterday’s weather was beautiful! However, I am sure we will get that one last freeze we always get! 🙁 Thanks for hosting!…hugs…Debbie

  10. Your porch has me dreaming of summer! I fear we are still many months away from a 70 degree day! Still buried under a few feet of now very dirty snow!

    Thanks for hosting!

    🙂 Linda

  11. Really cute decor, Susan. Lord, yes, our weather has been up and down, and so has the river – scarily so! This weekend, though, we have turned our backs to winter for good! Like you, we’re warming up (just to 60°), but that’s spring for us. While Mother Nature tested my patience outdoors, I’ve been trying my patience indoors with growing my own lemon plants…from seeds from store-bought lemons. Look out, Wms Sonoma, I’m comin’ after your market…jk. 😉
    Have a great week.
    Rita

  12. Susan…I always love it when you present your beautiful porch. Love those dishes in the hutch along with those buckets I have so adored…Trying to find similar ones. I think a project may in the future!….It has been a crazy past week here too….snow and then glorious days with great temps…Thanks for hosting Susan and have a great day!

  13. I love your hutch and it’s seasonal décor! Same crazy weather here. With the warm weather I’ve been on my screened in porch taking down my winter wonderland décor, but I’m waiting till after the “pollen season” before I decorate much for spring. How do you keep the pollen at bay? I too have a hutch I change with each season as well as a peg rack inside that I hang small seasonal décor on.

    • Angela, it’s quite the mess out there when the pollen hits! I’ll just have to vacuum/wipe stuff down when it starts getting bad. 🙂

  14. Your beautiful hutch just put a big smile on my face, Thanks! I love the plates and the buckets. Can’t wait for warmer temperatures to arrive. Thanks for hosting us!

  15. Susan,
Lovely porch decor. Thank you for hosting Metamorphosis Monday! Have a great week.
    Lori

  16. Your porch looks absolutely gorgeous! 🙂

  17. Sure has been a roller coaster ride with the weather! Those plates look darling in your hutch along with the little buckets. Thanks, as always, for hosting!

  18. Thanks so much for hosting another fun party!
    Have a great week,
    Suzanne

  19. Now I want to go to the beach. Your beachy hutch makeover is perfect. Thank you for hosting.

  20. You knowe I love your porch no matter how she is dressed! The pails are so cute and I love the oar too. We are JUST thinking Spring around here, still have snow on the ground. Summer is WAY off for us:) I wish we had your weather. XO

  21. I love everything on your porch…and could easily hang out there every day!
Your hutch looks great, but I really love your plates! I am such a dish person…and you have wonderful dishes. Thanks for the party!
    Sheila

  22. Love the hutch. It is so charming. Love those plates and that oar!

  23. Oh Susan, your summer hutch is adorable with the plates and buckets! Wasn’t the weekend glorious? I had so much fun cleaning out my garage, Yay spring!! Thanks for the party, and have a great week!

  24. I love your hutch too. My porch is flowery but I’m thinking I might go in your direction this year. I too love the ocean but live in Illinois

  25. I am so excited for Spring in the South. My first one! I love your porch decor and the color of that hutch is the same as a favorite piece of mine that I left behind when we sold our house. Hmmm . . . more painting to do?
Thanks for hosting dear lady and have a great week!
    Patti

  26. I am so jealous of you being able to get your porch ready for spring and summer! It is still snowy here in Pittsburgh although this week is predicted to be warmer ( in the 50s!! yeah!!). I am hoping that a lot of the white stuff will melt away. It has been spring inside my house for several weeks now. I just had to give us a lift from the blowing snow. Now I have hope that in the next few weeks I’ll be able to get my porch cleaned and ready for sitting. Thanks for hosting!!

  27. We’ve had weird weather here too, but it’s warm again, and I may have to move on to summer decorating soon. I love your ideas and the beachy hutch! Have a super week. 🙂

  28. Oh Susan…your passion for home decor just shines through with every single one of your posts!
This Georgia weather cracks me up and now rain all week! Boo.
    Have a great day!

  29. Hi Susan, your hutch is gorgeous! I love how you are able to re-use your things and make them look new. Thank you for hosting the party each week!! xx – Christine

  30. Our weather in Missouri is crazy too. But we’re back in the 50’s this week, YAY!! thanks so much for hosting!

  31. I’m thinking I need those plates for our Maine house! Thanks, Susan, for making it possible for all of us to be here.

  32. Your hutch has taken on a lovely summer look! Those plates are fantastic and the buckets of shells look adorable but what I really love is the new oar you found! Looks terrific and speaks of summer days on the water. Thanks for hosting this wonderful party!

  33. Roxanne Bernard says

Susan – I had the same pollen question since I am just up the road from you! May 2013 I was out on my porch washing off pollen when I fell off a ladder. Long story short…It shattered my heel into 7 pieces. 2 surgeries, staph infection, and no walking for almost 5 months!! Last year I covered everything on the porch with old sheets in late March and left them there until first of May. It looked horrible for a month, but it sure made clean up easier. My husband has banned me from ladders for life btw.

    • Wow, I’ve always heard that breaking anything in that area is not good. That sounds like a terrible experience, not to mention painful! I’m with your husband, no more ladders for you! I’m glad you mentioned that Roxanne because someone else mentioned doing that last year or maybe it was the year before. I did it and it was awesome! I remember I just lifted the sheet off the swing the days I wanted to sit on the porch…and it sure beat having to clean everything several times during the pollen season. I’ll definitely do that again…thanks again for reminding me of it because I’m sure I wouldn’t have remembered to do that. I wonder when the pollen will start…probably as soon as the leaves start leafing out which is usually around mid April.

  34. Love the color of your hutch! Beautiful job decorating it for Spring!

  35. Love your spring makeover Susan! It will be at least a month before we can really get outside and get things ready for spring. Then there’s the pollen…

  36. Charlotte says

Got the blog Susan! Yay! Love the hutch & little buckets. I hope you don’t mind, but I don’t care for the lamp on the hutch. I like the lamp! But it’s too big & detracts from the other things. Just my opinion, which wasn’t asked for! It was freezing cold here in So Calif. last Mon, with hail! And this last Sat it was 95 degrees!

    • Yay! Glad you got it. Yep, it does a look a little big in the pictures but I love having it there for the light in the evening. I think it probably looks a little better in person than it does in the pictures. 🙂 Wow, you guys have had the extremes, too! 95 is getting a bit too hot, especially for early March!

  37. Linda Page says

I love your decorated hutch! Makes me long for wet sand between my toes and searching for seashells in the early morning soft waves. C’mon summer!! I like how you used the cute buckets to hold Easter eggs for one tablescape. I have a dozen pastel eggs like yours and placed them in a pretty glass bowl on my dining table. I am now all ready for an Easter egg hunt because my two Siamese were kind enough to get the eggs out of the glass bowl, off the table and hide them for me!!!!! They did an excellent job because I have not found any of them yet!

  38. Thanks for sharing photos of your beautiful hutch! I am definitely ready for Spring and Summer after seeing this post.

  39. 75 degrees? Wow, you lucky, lucky girl! It was 20 here over the weekend. Today it climbed into the 40s for the first time in months and I am thrilled! Love the porch decor, Susan…it has me craving those warm temps even more. Thanks for the party!

  40. I love the beach theme on the porch! This would be a great time to go if we had sunny weather. You wouldn’t have to deal with all the crowds. You have a lot of party people today, don’t you?! Thanks for the party, Susan.

  41. Thank you for the party Susan. Love your Summer porch and tablescape. I need to remember to come back on Thursday for your tablescape party. Hope your week has started off nicely and the weather stays nice. We have had crazy weather here as well. One day it was 82 and the next 38.

  42. Thanks so much for the party, Susan! You always come up with such beautiful ways to decorate your porch and your tablescapes are always gorgeous!
    love and blessings~
    Lynda @ Gates of Crystal

  43. Love all the changes that you made on the porch. It really looks good.
Enjoy your porch and have a wonderful warm week,
    Mary

Hutch is beautiful and looks all ready for a summer full of great times. We have rain today, melting the last of that snowstorm we got hit with. Last weekend was lovely and much warmer. Spent the weekend at the gorgeous Inn at Perry Cabin in St. Michaels, MD ( where the wedding reception takes place in the movie Wedding Crashers) with a quick trip over the Bay Bridge to the St. Patrick’s Day festival in Annapolis on Sunday. It was so wonderful to get away from the cabin fever that was starting to set in at home. Hopefully, Spring will be with us here in PA in the next few weeks. In the meantime, I’ve put out Spring and Easter décor to make it appear so. Hugs!
