Tour a Beautiful Historic Victorian Home in Newnan, Georgia

I’m a member of The Georgia Trust and twice a year (Spring and Fall) they host a “Ramble.” A ramble is just that…rambling around through the town where the tour is being held and rambling in and out of some amazing historic homes.

The ramble, which took place a couple of weeks ago, was in the town of Newnan, Georgia. Fortunately, Newnan was largely untouched by the American Civil War due to its status as a hospital city (for Confederate troops), and as a result is still home to much antebellum architecture. For this reason, Newnan is known as “The City of Homes.” We saw some gorgeous historic homes on the tour.

The following pics were all taken of the beautiful Victorian home you see below. I believe this home is designed in the Second Empire (Mansard) style. I just discovered today (Saturday) that this home is also, for sale for $1,490,000. You can see the real estate listing here. I’ve posted a few of the pics shown in the listing…they are noted with an asterisk. Most of the pictures below were taken the day of the tour. Enjoy!

Amazing ceiling in the entrance hall.

Some of the doorways had amazing drapery/hangings!

Gorgeous stain glass work on the landing going to the upstairs.

Look at that woodwork!

Close-up…

Parlor…

Dining Room…

Close-up of one of the fireplaces…

Another beautiful doorway…

Kitchen…

Great porch on one side of the house…

The railing design looks like a sitting cat to me.  Someone else said it looked like an angel to them.  What do you see?

Back View…

Hope you enjoyed the tour of the wonderful Victorian home!

What an incredible tour..I would have given anything to be there.. the beautiful dressings at the doorways took my breath away..I’m wondering was that tile on the front of the fireplace, tin?? They were absolutely gorgeous.. I agree, the railings look like a cat sitting on it’s bottom. A person could sure enjoy a late afternoon with some sweet tea on that beautiful porch. Those ceilings were out of this world..I love the window with the light on..makes you want to go inside and see more. I’ll be looking forward to the next posting on your fun filled day..

Thank you for the home tour! It was wonderful. I got stuck in the parlor looking at the drapes. My parlor is small up side this beautiful home. Its a Dream Home. The bedroom drapes, the stained glass, Just beautiful. I went in a home in Tallbaton, Georia, not sure spell right. Any way it was a chance, a lady had drove, just before me and asked the man that lived alone if see could see his home. He had a little shop out back, why I stopped, The man ask if I would go in too, for he did not want to let her with just him. I was a little undecided at first, but went for it, It was a three story, with terrace. All the antique all still in place. It was a wonderful time. Thanks for sharing,

What a great tour. I love the homes you have posted. I grew up in a very historical town in IL. The homes there are awesome, too!!
    Thanks for sharing!! Hugs, Terrie

  23. The only “ramble” we have in may area is of a historic cemetery in Macon. I have never been on the Rose Hill Ramble, but have always intended to go. I had a reminder to myself on my computer, that suffered a catastrophic crash in June. It (the ramble) was today, and I missed it again. I will shoot for the Spring Ramble, the Sunday after Easter.
I enjoyed your “ramble” very much, and am glad there is more of it to come.

  24. Cottage Rose says

Hello; OH my goodness what beautiful homes, I love the drapes in the bath just so sheer and light. thank for sharing them.

    Hugs;

  25. Oh me, I misspoke. I napped for several hours today, and lost track of the day. The Ramble is tomorrow, it wasn’t today. I think I still may wait until the Spring to go however, as there is definitely a Fall chill in the air.

  26. WOW!
    Now thats a HOUSE!

  27. Susan – My sister and I are planning an early Dec. trip to Atlanta. She is going for business, I’m going along for the ride!! I would love to visit “A Classy Flea”. I googled them this morning and they came right up. We are staying in downtown Atl. How far are they from downtown? I would have her car, but I’m “directionally challenged”. LOL!! I just think it would be a great place to visit after seeing all your pics from there? We also plan on going to Ikea, since we don’t have one of those here, but we’re doing that on Sun when she has time to go. Just thought I’d ask and would appreciate just a little info on how far away it is.
    Thanks.

Hi Lynette…How cool that you are coming to Hotlanta! 🙂 I live in Marietta about 3 miles from the Flea. A Classy Flea is probably a 45 minute drive from Peachtree City. Peachtree City is on the south side of Atlanta I believe and Marietta is about 15-20 minutes north of Atlanta. You would just come straight up, north on I-75. My email is: [email protected]. Feel free to email me. I’ll be happy to give you directions to the Flea. It would be fun to meet up while you are here in town. 🙂 Susan

  29. Ouuuuu I could move right in!

  35. So funny that you are in my neck of the woods! I grew up in Newnan but now live with my husband in Turin whic is a suburb of Newnan (it’s not really big enough to have its own burbs but it does). I’ve gone by that particular house about a gazillion times. I remember it being different colors when I was little though. There are several other houses in the area that are beautiful! I can’t wait to see more of what you saw! It’s neat to see your home town through someone else’s eyes.

  36. what a beautiful home and the price is unbelieveable Something like that in Calif would be 5 times that OOHAAH! What a fun tour that must have been so lucky for us all that we have your blog to follow. Thankyou for sharing, Love it! Smiles Kathysue

Wowser!!! What an amazing house!! And in such perfect shape! The curtains that hang on the inside doorways are called portieres. And they are stunning in this house!!! I only wish we had a “ramble” in my neck of the country. We’re so new here that you just don’t find homes like this anywhere! 1854 is as old as they go. Thank you for sharing your “ramble” with us! I am drooling all over my laptop! Lol!! Can’t wait to see more of the tour!! Vanna

  41. Susan (Moonlight and Magnolias on RMS) says

Hey Vanna…thanks for sharing the name for those scrumptious draperies in the door way…I had no idea! 🙂

  42. Beautiful!

  43. Susan BetweenNapsOnThePorch says

    Hi Brandy,
Yep, we used to go there every year…lots of fun! I've eaten at Sprayberry's but not in ages. I'm a huge BBQ fan. Some of my faves around ATL are Harolds and Community BBQ. Have you ever been to Two Brothers in Ballground? The best brunswick stew is Harolds…no one does it better! 🙂

  44. Marilynn Deuel-White says

I was pleasantly surprised to see this beautiful home. I have a miniature dollhouse built after this wonderful home. It is identical. This is an adult dollhouse. So now I know what the inside looks like through the pictures. I am working on it now. Love the drapes on the doorways. Thank you so much for showing this wonderful home! Marilynn

  45. I have been going to Newnan for the past several months and pass this home. This house has my name on it. Love this house. Thank you for sharing pics. I can now see the inside and back. Awesome! Will definitely go to nest tour.

  46. Shelia Lewis says

I love this house! My great great grandfather, Thomas Swint King, was the mayor of Newnan for 20 years, from 1867-1887. I can imagine him living in a house like this 🙂
    Thank you for the article!
