Tour Howie Mandel’s Beachfront Home in Malibu

I’ve been sharing a lot of holiday related posts lately so I thought it might be fun to take a home tour that’s not holiday related today, although that red door has me thinking of Christmas.  I see cedar garland draped around the door, red ribbons hanging from the lanterns. Okay, I’ll stop…this is supposed to be a non-holiday post. Hard to pull my brain out of that mode right now. :)

This home actually once belonged to a celebrity, Howie Mandell, and it just sold for 7.75 million! Wowza!  It’s located in Malibu, CA and was designed to resemble a Nantucket estate, per an article I read at Zillow dot com. I’ll link to that article at the end of this post so you can see even more of this beautiful home.

The picture above the mantel made me think of the one above the mantel in the movie, Something’s Gotta Give.

Doesn’t that look like the same woman, except the bathing suit is slightly different. Wonder if they are by the same artist? (Tour the house in Something’s Gotta Give here: Something’s Gotta Give Movie House Tour)

I really liked the kitchen with a mix of different countertops.  Marble is definitely one of my faves for a kitchen counter. What do you think the other counter is…zinc? Stained concrete? I love when a kitchen has both wood and marble counters, that’s my favorite combination.

Another view of the kitchen shows it has a subway tile backsplash.

Love all the built-in cabinetry in the dining room!  Check out the coffered ceiling!  Gorgeous!

The floors in this home are “hand-scrapped.” I’m not exactly sure what that process is but they do look more rugged/textured than most hardwood flooring that I’ve seen.

A very traditional bedroom with a beadboard and beam ceiling.

Look at the view out those French doors! I wonder if those doors all bi-fold back to open up the whole wall. Wouldn’t that be perfect for this space! I just saw a home like that the other day on HGTV and it was amazing how it opens up the whole space.

This is what’s outside those doors! So, while we’re warming your toes by the fire today, let’s dream of this because that day is coming again, too.

Be still my heart. This house sure echos the one in Something’s Gotta Give doesn’t it? But that does not detract from the gorgeousness of it. Thanks for sharing.

Pretty home, although the light above the dining room table is not my cup of tea….the view makes up for it! Speaking of holiday moods, which we are all in, I do hope you will re-run your friend Marie’s Christmas home from last year, I would love to take her charming tour again. Thanks, Vicki in Louisville, KY

    • Vicki, I will have to create a post and link to that whole tours again. It was spread out over 6 posts. In the meantime, just click on “The Holiday Home” at the top of BNOTP. Then click on “Christmas” then click on “Home Tours” and you’ll see links to all of them right there. They are labeled “Victorian Home Decorated for Christmas, Part I” etc… There are six parts so can just click on the first one and move forward through each one. That was a fabulous tour. :)

Pretty house, Susan. I don’t usually like white walls, but in this light, beachy style house they seem to work. As nice as the view is, knowing that your neighbors on either side are only about 3″ away would be enough to keep me from wanting the house. I lived at a beach in California years ago, and the houses were so close, you could have heard your neighbor sneeze – among other things. But an ocean view is wonderful. :)

I hope you had a nice Thanksgiving. I’m in Christmas mode, too, so it was so easy to envision all the possibilities you were speaking of for the front porch, lol.

    • I did…hope you did, too! I feel like I’m moving in slow motion getting my home decorated, though…everything is taking a lot longer than I think it should. I should start in October each year, then I could get it all done. :)

Haha, PatinCal is right, Susan … but how did you ever get those pretty lights up on your eaves. :D I can just envision you high up on a ladder. A little thing like height (or ice) wouldn’t stop you, lol. But seriously, I’m thankful for all the holiday posts. I love them! But I do agree that there never seems to be enough time. Why is that? We know Christmas is December 25th, every year, and yet, it seems like it’s always a surprise, lol. There is something about the way time starts speeding up right around Thanksgiving. Suddenly, that month between Thanksgiving and Christmas gets compressed and seems to pass in about 10 days. I think science ought to look into the phenomenon, myself.

From what I see at the top of the page, you’ve already done a magnificent job of decorating the outside of your house. ;-)

  5. This house is lovely! What stands out the most to me are the beautiful ceilings and floor plan. I like homes where the stairs are not visible upon entering, although they can be difficult to find. Of course, if the stairs are like the ‘Gone With The Wind’ stairs, I’ll take them ;)

  6. AWESOME HOUSE fit for a movie star!!! Have a wonderful December Susan.

  7. He has an amazing home and the furnishings are absolutely gracious. Very classy living spaces, I could be comfortable there. I can just imagine myself in a wicker chaise lounge sipping a margarita while I soak up that beach view.

I'd love to hear from you! Please leave a comment!
