13 Wreaths for 13 Windows

Welcome to the 252nd Metamorphosis Monday!

Does this ever happen to you? The Christmas season looms ahead and you say to yourself, I’m not going to decorate as much this year. I think I’ll cut back a little. There will be less to take down and put away and it will be less stressful.

Yeah, right. That seems to last about a day around here, then suddenly I wake up one morning, a changed woman. Inspiration has hit and I’m raring to go, ready to decorate like it will be the last Christmas ever. I have no idea where that burst of energy comes from but I’m glad it seems to show up each year.

Even if it didn’t show up and I did actually cut back one year, the thing I could never give up is hanging wreaths on the windows. They make my heart sing each time I see them as I leave and return home.

And surprisingly, they are as pretty from the inside as they are from outside. I just wish I had put them up sooner this year because it’s ridiculous how happy they make me each time I notice them.

Except for the garage, I turned on all the lights on the front of the house to snap a few pics for you. Ummm, maybe I should have turned on the garage lights, too.

The Blue Hour was approaching…so pretty!

Wreaths lit up against a blue hour sky…

One last view before it became too dark for any more pics.

Pssst: I created a little tutorial post sharing how I hang the wreaths each year. You’ll find it here: How to Hang Wreaths on Exterior Windows

I’ll be working on the porch over the next few days…will share it soon.

Oh, before I forget, if you like decorating with pine garland, Trader Joe’s has it for just $7 for 20 feet! That’s enough to go all the way around an average door like mine, draping it here and there in the center as you go. Buy two or three bunches for a fuller look…at that price you can!

Looking forward to the Before and Afters linked for this Met Monday!

  1. Susan, your home looks beautiful! I only have 3 windows on the front of my home, so it wouldn’t take much to do this. I’ll have to think about that, it sure looks pretty. Thanks for hosting- Dawn @ We Call It Junkin.com

  2. The wreaths even look more gorgeous during the blue hour I think!!

  3. Your wreaths look so beautiful Susan, I can see why they fill you with the Christmas Spirit! Wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving!

  4. I was glad to click on here this morning and see the window wreaths. I’m wanting to try that this year, and this really makes me decide it’s a go. Thanks for hosting.

  5. Your house looks gorgeous this year, no trees to block those beautiful windows and wreaths. I bet you will get lots of traffic this year slowing down to take an extra look. It is definitely Christmas at your house!

  6. Beautiful Susan! Love the front porch too. I know what you mean about that burst of energy and that promise that I’m doing less each year (but somehow I do more than I expected to). We get so much wind from the winter weather I can’t put wreaths on the outside or they’d be flopping around. I have hung some from the inside but they don’t have the impact like they do on the outside. My house looks like a tornado hit- I’m in deco madness mode!

  7. Your house looks beautiful and very festive. I bet you are just so happy to have that part all done. I too feel like you. This year I said I won’t go crazy in decorating for Christmas. But once you get going there is no stopping. I guess we all just love Christmas and the memories of such happy times. Plus the house looks just so gorgeous. Yours has a beautiful start!

  8. It looks beautiful Susan! I am so impressed you have that major task done! The longer they’re up, the longer you can enjoy them! I love to decorate, and always do something different every year, but the outside stays pretty much the same so that makes life easier. Your blue light photos are stunning. I guess there will be lots of mad decorating going on this weekend! Happy Thanksgiving!

    • Yup, I think you’re right! I used to start the day after Thanksgiving but love getting a little jump on it each year now and enjoying it a bit longer. Thanks, Jenna for those sweet words! Have a wonderful, wonderful Thanksgiving!

  9. Every year I say I’m going to do less decorating, but as I pull out everything I get sentimental and I wind up putting most everything up. Last year I didn’t put up my Christmas village and my sons and husband were all disappointed. Who would have thought they’d care? So this year I’m definitely putting the village up too.
Your home looks magical with all the lights on and the wreaths! I bet your neighbors love looking at your house as much as you do. I know I would!

    • I know exactly what you mean…same thing happens to me. Lisa, I just LOVE that your son and hubby noticed…how cool is that! 🙂 Thanks, Lisa! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

  10. Thanks for hosting another amazing party! This year I am going to try and do lighted wreaths on my windows….wish me luck!

  11. Susan, you have the perfect house and windows to feature wreaths at Christmas! Love how the red ribbon ties in with your front door too.

  12. Susan, your home is lovely! I love your wreaths! We do the same thing and it makes my heart sing too! Your home is stunning decorated for Christmas! Thank you for hosting another great link party!

  13. I LUV “Trader Joe’s”…thanks for the tips, as always…everything looks fab!! franki

  14. What a great job Susan. It looks so festive.

  15. Susan, your home is always so beautiful at Christmas…I always look forward to your incredible inspiration. The house looks so beautiful with your wreaths that seem to glow at night…you are right, they looks as beautiful on the inside as they do out!…Looking forward to your porch!

  16. Oh…P.S….thanks for hosting!!! Happy Monday!

  17. Thanks for hosting, Susan! The wreaths look gorgeous! Hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving!

    Susan,
You know the people who drive by real slow and a look?
Yes that would be me. Then the wife tells the husband “Turn around so
we can see it again”. Yes that’s exactly what I would be doing.
Your home shows that you do love to decorate.

    Linda

  19. Rosemary Armesto says

Always, but you know how that goes. You’re home is Christmas Card perfect. My last house had 37 windows. You know only the front door and windows were adorned with wreaths.

  20. ~Susan~
Looks lovely, isn’t it wonderful how the small things can make us happy !!

The pictures remind me of the house on Home Alone (what time are we rocking around the Christmas tree?) I love that house even if the interior is now outdated some would say. I worked for Bombay Company and I noticed a lot of the items for decorating were from that company !

    have a super day
    Paula

  21. Thanks so much for hosting! Life to the full! Melissa

  22. Beautiful home! Thanks so much for hosting!

  23. Hi, Susan,
“It’s Beginning to Look Alot Like Christmas”! Bravo, Susan, for another post that inspires and shows us that with hard work and imagination we can have homes fit for a magazine cover. You are amazing! Rosie

  24. Your wreaths are beautiful Susan! I hang mine from the inside because of our harsh Canadian winters but I love the look of them hanging from the outside. Thanks for hosting another great party this week!

  25. Your wreaths look just beautiful, Susan! Thank you so much for hosting!

  26. I love to see wreaths in every window on beautiful homes like yours….enjoy the season!

  27. Oh your wreaths truly are welcoming! Thank you for hosting.

    Happy Thanksgiving week!

  28. Oh Susan, your house looks gorgeous! I always love seeing the wreaths on all of your windows. It’s the perfect Christmas welcome. Since I host so many for T’gvg, I don’t start on Christmas until after T’gving. I always say I’m not going to do as much this year, but I think I’ll stick to it this time, since Christmas is going to get here so quickly. I just read that there are only 29 shopping days until Christmas, and it’s not even T’giving yet! Yikes! Thanks so much for hosting. laurie

  29. Your wreaths are absolutely gorgeous! Thanks so much for hosting, and have a great Thanksgiving! Dee 🙂

  30. I love your house all light up, the wreaths really dress it up! Have a great thanksgiving, Laura

  31. Your house looks beautiful, Susan! Love your wreaths and the snap is so pretty in the dark with the inside lights on.
Have a happy Thanksgiving, my friend.
    You’re always a sweetie,
    Shelia 😉

  32. Those pictures would make beautiful personal Christmas Cards. Knowing what a Type A personality you are I would not be surprised if you have wreaths on the back side of the house too. Have a great Thanksgiving Susan.

  33. Your Christmas wreaths look really pretty! Glad you put them up since they make you so happy. It is always the little things like that, that do it for me as well. Thanks so much for hosting!

  34. Susan,

Love the wreaths! We have four windows across the front of our house and I’ve always wanted to do this, yet never have. I think this year might be a great time to gitter done! 🙂
I also love it when I see the little candles in each window. So warm and inviting.

Hope you have a blessed Thanksgiving.

  35. I love the picture of your house with the beautiful wreaths on the windows. WOW! Now it is starting to feel like Christmas.

Our windows slide horizontally not vertically so I can’t do that, but it looks absolutely gorgeous. Thanks so much.

I love your website and your morning emails. It puts a smile on my face.

    Mel

  36. Selma Kessler says

Oh my gosh, Susan, you made me chuckle when you were referring to the well meaning and quickly cast off intent to scale back! I bought a new faux tree this year and it is amazingly realistic, so I thought “I don’t need to add much for this to be a pretty tree.” Hahahahahaha! I am to laugh! 5280 feet of glass bead garland later (it looks like jewelery draping from the branches, how could I stop myself??), I’ve only just started putting on the ornaments. Maybe I can scale back on those??
Oh, and your house is truly STUNNING with all those wreaths on the windows! I love that look. So classic and elegant, yet welcoming! I can’t wait to see The Porch!! Happy Thanksgiving!
    Selma

  37. What a fabulous way to start the week: with your party! Have a terrific Thanksgiving week!!

  38. Thank you so much for hosting Susan! Your house looks magical! Angie xo

  39. Hi Susan,

Every year in January when it’s time to take down my Christmas decorations, I VOW that I’m not going to decorate this much again, and then when November rolls back around, I’m ready to drag it all out and do it again. 😀 I’m a glutton for punishment. Seriously, I would miss all the cheerful decs if I didn’t put them up, and so would my family.

Your home is beautiful, and all the wreaths look just lovely at all different times of the day and night. It’s definitely worth the effort to hang them, isn’t it? Thank you for hosting Met Monday — have a great day!

    Denise

  40. So Pretty!!
Thanks for hosting again this week – appreciate what you do.
    Have a very Happy Thanksgiving.

  41. Susan, I am a traditionalist when it comes to Christmas decorating, so I think that those wreaths on your brick home are just perfect! Lots of work for sure, but totally worth the effort! Thanks for another lovely party and I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

  42. Happy Thanksgiving Susan! Your house looks beautiful and inviting as always. You have the gift of turning everything , even something as simple as a wreath into a wonderful display! Love it! Big hug, Lizy

  43. Love the wreaths Susan! Looks wonderful and so elegant for your home. Very inspired to create and hang some wreaths around the house!

  44. Susan, thanks for the party and as always love your decorations. Your home always reminds me of the first Home Alone movie…my favorite one of all. Have a great Thanksgiving!

    • Helen, that’s a big compliment! That was probably the home that most influenced me…I loved that house so much when I saw the movie. I must have been subconsciously influenced by it all these years. I just need those dormers they have across the top of the roof! Oh, and a way, way bigger kitchen! 🙂

  45. Love your beautiful home, Susan. The wreaths are the perfect first thing to do for Christmas decorating…they set the scene, welcoming all who pass by to smile & get into the holiday spirit. Who knows how many passersby you inspire. I’ve always wanted to hang wreaths on our windows but the windows on our one story, ranch style home are completely uneven; one long, one short, front door, bay window. Any thoughts or help with this?

  46. Thanks for hosting, Susan. Your home looks lovely. I’m taking this opportunity to wish you a happy Thansgiving. ~Zuni

  47. pam ~ crumpety cottage says

A Christmasy house against a blue hour sky. *sigh.* So pretty.

And thanks for the tip on Trader Joe’s garland. I think we have one somewhere around here. 😀

You know, when you said the wreaths make you ridiculously happy (I know just what you mean 😉 ) I got to wondering how weird it would be to put up other wreaths the rest of the year. We have them on our doors, or sometimes in our houses, so why not have them on our windows year round? Imagine pretty autumn wreaths September through November. And Spring and Summer wreaths. Or even just one style of ‘all purpose’ wreath through the year, and only changing out at Christmas. I wonder if people would look at us as if we’ve got holes in our heads or if we’d start a trend, lol.

    • I love that idea! Not sure I’d have the time but bet I’d get a lot faster at putting them up. And my windows would stay cleaner because I tend to clean the cob webs away and shutters as I go. 🙂

  48. Love the wreaths Susan, they look so festive. This is my first Christmas in our house, so I am actually looking forward to decorating. Thanks so much for hosting.

Happy holiday to you. Best. K.

  49. Your wreaths are great, would love to come home to that too! Happy Thanksgiving! ~Ann

  50. This is a great party! I love that all the links move around so everyone gets a shot at the top. Thanks for hosting! Happy Thanksgiving!

  51. Beautiful additional blue sky photo!

  52. Your home is the perfect setting for a holiday movie! Lovely!

  53. Wow, Susan! I can see why your wreaths make you so happy. What a stunning visual! Just beautiful. Thank you so much for the party and I wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving!

  54. Your wreaths are so beautiful I see why they mske you happy.

  55. I love popping on here and seeing all of your wreaths! Really beautiful. Quick question. How do you hang them? This is on my list to do next year. Thanks for hosting and have a great Thanksgiving! Toodles, Kathryn @TheDedicatedHouse

  56. I’ve always wanted to hang wreaths outside my windows. Maybe this year I can get dh to help me with your instructions.

  57. Susan, I am glad that you are happy with the wreaths. It should feel good to see the house decorated with the new landscape. I followed your tutorial and did wreaths in my windows. The windows are metal so I wrapped the ribbon that actually hangs the wreath around a small block of wood (1x2x2) and stapled the hanging ribbon to the block of wood. I lowered the top window, l put the wreath outside and closed the window with the block of wood on the inside. The wood serves as a “stop”. This allows you to get a perfect length of ribbon on each wreath and will be all ready to hang again next year. I wish I knew how to post pictures because I am not sure this explanation is really clear.
