Chasing Away the Gloom with a Festive 4th of July Celebration

Welcome to the 614th Tablescape Thursday!

I’ve had this 4th fo July table setting planned for a few weeks and during that time, I never imagined setting it on such a raining, dark day. The floods came last night as I set this table and it got super dark, very fast. This morning was not much different. Hopefully, I’ll be able to add some sunnier photos to this post later on today.

A sunnier photo taken later in the day…

Celebrate 4th of July, Entertaining

This is the first time I’ve used my bark-edged chargers with this patriotic dinnerware. I love how they look with it! The rustic background of the flag plates looks so nice against the rustic wood of the chargers. The bark-edged chargers are still available here: Bark-Edged Chargers.

Celebrate 4th of July on the Porch

Do you have any plans for the 4th? Will you be having friends over, maybe a small group? How many are allowed to gather in your area? I think they’ve increased it to 50 here now, but it may be more.

I love these cupcake paper/cups that I found in Publix. They are lined with aluminum or tin foil so when you bake the cupcakes, the color of the cupcake cup doesn’t change and get dark. Love that! I couldn’t make up my mind what sprinkles to use so I used two different types.

The little Adirondack chairs that are acting as holders for the cupcakes, came from Old Time Pottery many years ago. They originally held glass candle votives which I still have around here somewhere, but I love using them to hold cupcakes.

When I saw how dark and rainy it was going to be last night, I opted for candlelight.

Flag Dinnerware for 4th of July Dinner Party

The navy and white star napkins you’ve seen me us in so many tables over the years are amazingly still available, plus they are on sale! You’ll find them here: Star Napkins.

Flag Dishware for Independence Day

This is the first time I’ve ever used the red, white, and blue check napkins. You’ll find those available here for a great price here: Red, White and Blue Napkins.

Patriotic 4th of July Plates

I love this dishware sooo much! It’s called “Colonial” by Warren Kimble, manufactured by Sakura, NY. It’s my go-to dishware for patriotic holidays.

Flag Dishes, Patriotic Table Setting

I found this set on eBay many years ago, so that’s always a great place to look for it.

The cute bicycle napkin rings are from Pier 1 several years ago. I am so going to miss them, always found the cutest things in Pier 1.

I couldn’t decide on flatware so I decided to mix it up using two different patterns. The striped flatware is also Colonial, designed to go with this dishware pattern. I think I found it on eBay. The red flatware is by Hampton Forge and available here: Red Flatware.

I use the red flatware in table settings a lot. It works well for Valentine’s Day, Christmas, and all patriotic holidays. Really it’s good all year around.

Here’s a better view of the bicycle napkin rings. They are truly adorable! I checked online and found 4 available HERE, but the price is quite high.

What are your plans for the 4th? Will you have friends or family over? Would love to hear!

If you are participating in Tablescape Thursday, please be sure to add your permalink below, and not your general blog address. To get your permalink, click on your post name, then copy and paste the address showing in the address bar, into the “url” box when you link up. You’ll need to include a link in your post back to the party to link up and participate.

That’s so visitors to your blog will be able to find the party and the other Tablescape Thursday participants. Requiring a link back also prevents businesses and scammers from linking up to sell their products. (Yep, that really happens, unfortunately.)

Please, don’t add your post name/blog name ALL IN CAPS…it tends to create big spaces between the rows of links.

Please do not link up table settings that were just recently shared in the last few weeks for Tablescape Thursday.

  1. I adore those small chairs! They are so cute!

    • Thanks, Beth! I found those in Old Time Pottery many years ago. I wonder if they are still open, I haven’t checked in a while. Almost afraid to check since so many stores I love have closed.

So fun – needed that reminder to get my Fourth of July stuff out! It has been such bad news on TV that I am losing myself in it. Love you tablescape! Napkins and rings are adorable not to mention the dinnerware and cute little chairs. Happy 4th of July!

  3. I love your plates and those chairs are adorable! Such a cute idea! Thanks for hosting and have a happy 4th!

  4. Hi Susan!

Having grown up and lived forever in CA — trust me, the dark days and rain GA gets is awesome. Everything in CA goes brown at the end of spring (that’s why they have such terrible forest fires). Every time it rains here I say to my boys, “I love the summer rain, it makes everything so green.” 🙂

    Your table is stunning!

    Wendy (in Suwanee)

    • That’s true! I’m glad we don’t have to deal with the fires. I was thinking recently that Georgia really reminds me of Ireland because of how green it is. Sometimes I think we get as much rain as they do! lol
      Thanks, Wendy!

      Have a great weekend!

  5. Oh this is so darling Susan! I think the gloomy sky is the perfect color for the backdrop! 🙂 I would love to celebrate the holiday at this table!

  6. I also loved Pier One and will miss it.

    • I think a lot of us are going to miss them. Wish someone would reopen them one day. Someone told me that happened to Toys R Us, I hadn’t realized they were open again.

  7. So festive Susan! I love those cupcakes in the retro garden chairs! I have those bicycle napkin rings too, I’m sick that Pier 1 is closing

  8. Even though your skies are gray, the table settings sure perked up my day!
    Wishing you sunshine soon!
    Marty

  9. Gail Bell says

Love the chairs as cupcake holders! Despite the gloomy weather, this table setting is perfect to lift ones spirits. Happy 4th!
P.S. I, too, will miss Pier 1 for their unique, one of a kind décor. And their end of season sales were the best.

    • Thanks so much, Gail! I know, I loved shopping there! Happy 4th to you! Hope you have a great one with lots of yummy food and celebrating!

  10. Love that table and everything about it, Susan. Somehow those little decorations for the cupcakes really stand out. I need some of those! And yes, I am so going to miss Pier 1 also. What a shame. Amazon is just not good for everything, contrary to groupthink of most shoppers these days.

    • I found those little chairs in Old Time Pottery one year. Would love to find them again, maybe in summer pastel colors. Wouldn’t that be cute?! 🙂
Happy 4th to you and your family!

  11. Very festive for July 4th! Those chairs are adorable and can be used in many tables capes! Happy 4th Susan! Hubby and I will be staying home in upstate New York on our deck enjoying the weather and listening to fireworks!

  12. franki parde says

I salute you…that IS the most festive tablescape & I NEED A CUPCAKE!! Off to PUBLIX!! franki

  13. I love your festive table…..especially the dinnerware. I am so going to miss Pier 1, and cannot bring myself to go to their store closing sales as it is just too depressing……I am not online shopper. Here in AZ our numbers are spiking, so no July 4th gatherings.

    • Don’t go, Lee. I visited mine right when I got back from Ohio a few weeks ago and it was soooo depressing. It made me want to cry. I have so many good memories of shopping there so it really made me sad walking through the half empty store. Why do the good ones all close? 🙁

  14. This tablescape couldn’t be any more festive, except for sparklers.
    RIP Pier 1.

  15. Brenda s. Lawrence says

This is a beautiful patriotic table setting Susan! I love how festive it is, I love anything patriotic anyway. Those cupcakes are so fun and look so yummy too. They look perfectly at home on those chairs, which I am so crushing on. The mixed flatware is perfect as well. Yep, this table setting makes my little heart go pitter patter! No plans for the 4th here so far. But will be going to the Outer Banks on the 18th with my brother’s family. We can have larger gatherings now, I think up to 250 if it is a wedding or something to that effect now. That is more than I want to be in, but our county and little town is doing pretty good with our numbers. Stay well and enjoy your 4th of July Susan! Hugs, Brenda

  16. I love your stars and stripes dishes, especially the flatware!! Thanks so much for hosting. I am going to miss Pier 1 as well – so sad. Stay safe and have a nice 4th!!

  17. I love you red, white and blue tablescape. You always make everything so special.
    Marilyn

  18. The plates are so cute, as are the napkins, the napkin rings, the flatware – need I go on? Who wouldn’t want to sit at this lovely table? Happy 4th to you!

  19. Thank you so much for hosting! This week I am excited to share my summer outdoor spaces tour, outdoor patriotic tablescape and styling a patriotic tray for summer! Hope you are staying well and happy!

  20. I love all of it, but especially those cute chairs because I collect miniatures.
Not going to the death of Pier One sales. How can they go out of business when we all love them? I don’t like to buy online.

  21. So festive, Susan. Love all the details that makes it so special.

Here in Canada we celebrate July 1st (as our birthday) however the Province I live in, currently allows only congregations of ten with encouragement of it to be a cluster of known relationship. (For example, family or close friends.) As for institutions and merchants, they have strict regulations to follow that of which includes sanitizing procedures plus the wearing of a facial mask by their staff and in many cases the same rules apply to their patrons.

All said; HAPPY early 4th of JULY to you and hopefully by this time next year, things will be be back to ‘what was normal’. -Brenda-
