7 Centerpiece Ideas for Your Christmas Holiday Table

Welcome to the 742nd Tablescape Thursday! Over the past few weeks, my internet has been cutting in and out. With all the rain we’ve had recently, it’s gotten 10x worse. The cable company is supposed to arrive any time now so this post will be short on words, but hopefully, you’ll find it helpful as you prepare your holiday tables this year.

Sometimes the toughest part of setting the table is coming up with a centerpiece. Here are a few that I’ve put together over the years. When family is here I love creating this Colonial Williamsburg-inspired Centerpiece. A friend of mine gave me the wood form that it’s built on about 30 years ago. I remember she said she found it at a craft fair. (View this table here: here: Christmas Table with a Lemon-Lime Centerpiece.)

Here’s how it looks made with apples and fresh holly. Sorry for the blurriness of some of the photos. (Some were taken in my early blogging days when the camera I was using wasn’t the greatest.)

There used to be a similar form available on the Colonial Williamsburg Market website. I’ve also seen similar ones in the past on eBay. To see the form I use and how I make this centerpiece, check out this post: How to Make a Beautiful Colonial Williamsburg Style Centerpiece.

If you have a seasonal ceramic figure or any decorative piece that has a basket attached, those are great for filling for a centerpiece. I’ve even used bunnies in centerpieces, filling them with a small Poinsettia. (See more of this table here: Christmas Table Inspired by Nature.)

Lit houses of any type always look great in the center of a holiday table. For this table below, I used a lot of my Dept. 56 houses. To see how I ran the wires to create this table setting, check out this post: Create a Lit Centerpiece with Dept. 56 Houses.

When you’re out shopping in places like HomeGoods, TJ Max, or Marshalls, look for inexpensive tiered servers. They usually have them available all throughout the year.

When Christmas comes around, fill your tiered server with sparkly Christmas baubles. (See more of this table setting here: Silver-Tiered Centerpiece for a Christmas Table.)

One year I filled a tall apothecary jar with red Christmas baubles. If a centerpiece is especially tall, just move it to the sideboard or another location at the start of the dinner.

One year I set a table for cat lovers with cat-themed salad plates, and for a bit of humor, used a small tree covered with birds for my centerpiece!

Again, don’t limit your creativity by limiting the height of your centerpiece, just move it to a different location at the start of the dinner. (See more of this table here: Christmas Table for Cat Lovers.)

Have a few toys left over from when your children were small? Those always make an adorable centerpiece for a Christmas-holiday table setting.

If a piece you would like to use in the center of your table is a bit shorter than you would like, elevate it on a pedestal as I did with this sassy Christmas Goose.

To hide the pedestal, I surrounded it with fresh magnolia leaves.
