A Beautiful Victorian Home Rises From The Ashes

Welcome to the 338th Metamorphosis Monday!

In 2008, the unthinkable happened. A storm came and lightening reduced this beautiful Victorian home to charred rubble. The owners, Christy and Don, began a new, determined to rebuild their home following the design of the original house as their guide.

Victorian Home Before Destroyed by Lightening Fire

It took two full years to bring it back, but oh my gosh, is it wonderful!

Victorian Home

I love the turret, the larger dormers on the side, the bays, the gables and that fabulous wrap-around porch! Victorian homes are so beautiful with their wonderfully complex roof lines.

In this aerial view, you can see the carriage house nearby.

Victorian Home Rebuilt After Fire

When it’s raining, there’s a covered area (porte cochere?) that’s perfect for pulling under when arriving home.

The porch is beyond fabulous! Let’s check it out!

Porch on a Victorian Home

In love! Is there anything more beautiful and more cooling than white wicker with dark green cushions on a big gallery porch. It looks like a beautiful resort, doesn’t it? Notice all the hydrangea wreaths.

There are several of those across the porch.

I wonder if Christy made the wreaths with hydrangeas from her beautiful garden.

Pink Hydrangeas

Can you just imagine the arrangement these would make, it’s truly a rainbow of colors!

Pink, Lavender and Blue Hydrangeas

Such a beautiful garden and lawn!

Tomorrow we’re going inside this beautiful home for a full tour and you will NOT want to miss it! I would have shared the interior photos today, but this post would have been way too long.

Here are a couple of pictures to give you a little preview of our tour tomorrow. Every room is just as lovely as this beautiful kitchen!

The design and attention to detail is wonderful throughout! Stop by tomorrow for a tour of all the rooms.

  4. Susan, please ignore my email to you. It must have just been a glitch on my computer. What a beautiful home. How devastating it must have been when it was hit by lightening, but how wonderful that they brought it back to life while respecting it’s history. Can’t wait to see the inside. Thanks for hosting.

Spectacular! Can’t wait to see all the inside pics. Wow, what a place. Do Christy and Phyllis read your blog then? I hope we get to see the carriage house too. I’ve been fascinated with them since I was a little girl. There is something so intriguing and cozy about a carriage house. And yes, that is a porte cochere and it is so cozy. I love it’s placement. Very architecturally interesting. Thanks for this great post, Susan. I am so happy the were able to rebuild (and I agree about the complexity of the roof lines in this style of house.) So visually wonderful. Absolutely beautiful.

  14. What an incredibly home!
Thanks so much for sharing (and hosting!), Susan!
    Have a fantastic week,
    Suzanne

  17. Regality (aka The Quing) says

That porch is wonderful. If there were any close houses, it would be the perfect “Howdy Neighbor Porch.”

I wonder if this is the same home that appeared in a decor magazine (House & Garden, Traditional Home?) right after it had been destroyed. Of course the layout had been created long before.

  18. Susan, I cannot wait to see the interior tomorrow! Such a gorgeous place! Thanks for hosting, and see you tomorrow! Toodles, Kathryn @TheDedicatedHouse

  19. What a stunning home! I can’t wait to see more of the inside.

Did I miss the location? It sure looks like Newport.

  20. What a beautiful home! How sad that the owners had the fire, but the new home is better than the original!

  21. This one KNOCKED MY SOCKS OFF!! Absolutely fabulous…THANX for SHARING!!! franki

  22. How wonderful that they decided to rebuild their beloved home after losing it. Most people would have built some modern McMansion in its place. Kudos to them for reproducing the charming house they fell in love with, turrets and porches and all. Looking forward to the interior tour. Thanks for posting. You made my day.

  23. What a gorgeous home, and I love those hydrangeas.

  24. What a beauty! I’ll be back for more tomorrow!

  25. Be still my heart!!! Susan, this is definitely one for me. The architecture is beautiful, the porches the kitchen, ooh la la.
Now stop teasing and show us the rest!! 🙂
Out of devastation, rises a beauty. The gardens are just lovely too. *sigh*. You can move this one up the list, Susan.
    Thanks for the view.

  26. Mamey Brown says

  27. Sheer perfection!

  28. What an amazingly beautiful home! I can’t wait to see the rest of it — thanks, Susan! 🙂

  29. That home is beyond fabulous! It is closer to my dream home than anything I’ve ever seen. I KNOW that I was born to be rich and I simply don’t know what happened. Thanks for sharing and for hosting Susan.

  31. Wow…what a beautiful home. I would love to have a porch like that. Can’t wait to see the inside. Thanks for hosting and I hope that you have a great week.

  32. Andrea Campbell says

What an incredible home this is! It’s an American classic in every way and harkens back to an age we have, sadly, lost. I can’t imagine anything that would inspire more day dreams. I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s posting.

  33. What a wonderful home and that porch is fabulous! The beautiful shrubs and trees make for a beautiful landscape! I know from looking at that gorgeous kitchen I will love the rest of the interior!

  34. Thanks so much for the party Susan! Have a great week!

  35. This looks so much like a house my son went to a birthday party at in Social Circle, GA. Hope you reveal the location tomorrow!

  36. bobbi duncan says

Sure, sure, go ahead and torture me, making me wait to see the inside of this amazing complex lol! Can you believe this home and property? I want to live in the carriage house, and on that porch where I can just drift away (sigh!) Many of the homes in the area where we live have carriage houses and I always feel they look sooo cozy and inviting.

  37. So beautiful, I can hardly wait to see more pictures of the inside. I love porches and architectural detail, so many new homes have neither of those things in a effort to make them more affordable. I know the owners will love living here and everyone who visits (even if it’s a virtual visit) will love it too.

  38. Beautiful I would love to cook breakfast in that lovely kitchen.

  39. really beautiful! i want to see the rest of the interiors. The kitchen is the way I love elegant, nice colors and luminous. I´m waiting the others insides.
