A Behind the Scenes Tour

Sometimes the most fun stuff to see in a room redo are the things that are hidden from sight. So though I haven’t hung this bulletin board, yet…

Or, this cute shelf…

Or, this wrapping center I shared HERE, I have been busy with a few other little things in the office. Come take a peek.

Remember the steps I found for Max for only $10 at an indoor flea market HERE?

I had Home Depot mix paint to match the desk in the office and now the steps reside here behind the desk.

I like how they are hidden and out of the way. You can just barely see them behind the desk, if you look really hard.

They got Mr. Max’s seal of approval…

It only took him about 3 trips up before he was scaling them like a pro.

It takes a little finesse to haul 15 lbs up onto the desk. 😉

Coming in for a landing.

Another little addition, I found these organizer caddies in one of my favorite stores, HomeGoods. I’m pretty sure HomeGoods saw the chair I bought for my office and had these made just for me. 😉

They fit like they were made for the drawers in the Pottery Barn “Bedford” desk.

Are you familiar with the whimsical work of Ned Young? That’s his artwork on the front of that little notebook.

Funny! You can see more of his work HERE.

I bought two of these organizers. The other one lives in the drawer at the end of the desk and holds backup supplies.

It also holds scissors for the wrapping center that will eventually be hung on the wall nearby.

Another addition to the office is a cute little window bird feeder so I can watch the birdies while I work. It’s easy to fill. I just open the window next to it as you see here, and lift it off the mounting to fill it.

It’s been hanging three days and so far the birds haven’t found it. I’m not sure if they will use it since I have two large feeders hanging off the deck/porch below. But I’m hoping…and waiting.  It’s available here: Window Bird Feeder. Just click on the name to find it at Amazon where I purchased it.

This picture cracked me up. It was uploaded to Amazon by someone who purchased the feeder. 🙂

Has spring sprung in your area of the country? The trees are filled with their spring-green leaves here and every day is a blessing. Tell me…what are you up to this weekend?

Good for Max hauling that body up those stairs and on to your desk!! He deserves a treat. Have a great weekend!

  2. Tammy @ Type A says

Max is one lucky kitty! Your office is lovely. Thank you for taking us along on your redecorating journey.

  4. Nice organizers Susan, but best of all I love Max!! If the birds visit that feeder, you can bet he will be watching very closely through the window!! 🙂

  5. It's looking awesome Susan! Love the raccoon..my kitties could use some steps like that too. You take care this weekend, sounds like the scary weather is headed for you.
    Hugs, Lisa

  6. I really like the clock in the first photo! Beautiful.

  7. I have loved watching the office come together! It is lovely…I know that Mr. Maxx is pleased!

  8. The Old Block House says

    I so love that chair!

  9. Susan (Between Naps on the Porch) says

Old Block House…I just found it at Pier 1 about a month ago…so they may still have some. 🙂

  10. I can't wait to get started on my new craft room/office, and I plan on using the same PB furniture. It's been fun and inspiring watching your room come together!

  11. I love how you are so tricky and coordinated with your selections! What a great office you have. You won't want to leave.

I was out of town when you posted about the light fixture that got away 🙁 It was beautiful! My cousin bought an older house about 2 years ago that has a light very much like that one. The previous owners or the person who "flipped" the house painted it OFF WHITE!! I couldn't believe it!

  12. Oh, how you will love working in your new office with all of those goodies to use and enjoy! Max is so darling, and seeing him actually get to the desk from his steps is amazing, considering that he is a huge cat. But he has perfected his approach and is just darling. My deceased cat, Polo, a Chinchilla Persian, would perch on the table of my sewing machine and watch me sew for hours on end. Cats are such company and friends, too! The additions to your new office are just perfect and I don't know which I love the most, but it would be the wrapping center or the bullentin board, I think. However, everything is just perfect! I noticed in the photo of the blue bedroom that you and I have the same pillow shams and comforter…….excellent taste, LOL!!

  13. Jan Marie says

Spring is teasing us some here but has not actually shown herself yet. I am enjoying watching you put your office together. I took you tip about the sugar cookie yellow (yellow is my favorite color) and that will go up in my home this year.

  14. Susan (Between Naps on the Porch) says

Phyllis, I love Persians…such pretty cats! I had three for many years. Polo sounds like he was a sweetheart. They are such company.

  15. So much fun following along with your redo. Uh did you think maybe the 15 lb. feline with stairs right to the window might be the reason the birds are staying away.. I'm just sayin'.

  16. Susan (Between Naps on the Porch) says

Jan, you will love it! It is such a soft, pretty color.

  17. Susan (Between Naps on the Porch) says

Lori, LOL! I know that doesn't help! 🙂

  18. Hi Susan…Your office looks like it should be featured in a magazine. Lovely, lovely, lovely.
Everything looks so neat and clean.

Even your drawers look fab! Great job, Susan.

  19. Patricia Torres says

aaaww.. I totally love Max… the set of stairs is lovely.. You are so so organised.. its amazing!! 🙂

  20. Carolyn @ Adrift on the Lake says

Beautiful office! I have loved watching all the progress from day one. I would never leave that room! And Max is the cooleset — makes me want a kitty indoors.

LOL at the photo of the raccoon you found. I have birdfeeders outside and those little raccoons raid them constantly. And when I yell at them to go away they look at me as if to say "yeah, right, lady. Make me. Go ahead… just make me." We now live in harmony as I bring the feeders in at night.

  21. Susan (Between Naps on the Porch) says

Carolyn, I started doing the same thing about a month ago. I set my alarm on my phone and when it goes off each evening at 8:30, I bring them in…otherwise, I kept forgetting them. 🙂

  22. Jane@Cottage at the Crossroads says

Love the photo of Max hoisting himself onto your desk! I have 2 cats that are aging. I've seen the hesitancy of one before he attempts jumping. The office is really coming along. Can't wait to see the finished room. This weekend we will continue to work on a stone walkway that we are putting in our yard. We've been working on it all week! Totally a do-it-yourself job!

  23. On Crooked Creek says

    Susan,
How adorable watching Max climb the stairs, leap onto the desk and land with such ease!
Your office space is shaping up nicely!!! Thank you for sharing the organization part of your new office furnishings…sometimes we see the "eye candy" and forget to look for functionality! By the way…where was the candy?
    Fondly,
    Pat

  24. Love the pictures of your cat! I have a 14 pound tabby who will meow for a minute or so before he jumps up onto the window sill. 😛

Loved that shelf! I can't wait to see the room finished!

  25. Designs By Pinky says

HI Susan, the picture of the racoon made me cringe because Joe hasn't out the feeders back out yet because we have had RACCOONS and they were living and pooping on the roof!!!! We could here them at night! It is awful! We may now be able to feed the birds anymore and that is hoprrible for us. The office is looking GOOD!!! Love the organizers, I think they DID have them made for you:):) Love following the progress. XO, Pinky

  26. The Aud Author, Audrey says

Susan, what a beautiful little haven you've created in that office. I'd want to spend all day in there! Love the way it's turning out!

  27. Susan, the office stuff is coming together. How nice of HomeGoods! I sent my sister a picture of your house and paint color and she bought the paint today to paint her bedroom this weekend. 🙂 My office will be done soon, I hope.

  28. Your office space is so pretty. Mr. Max is pretty darn lucky, & he may be the reason the birds are reluctant to come to the feeder. LOL!!! You just have a beautiful setting. I'm crazy about that wrapping center & just showed it to The Man — asking sweetly "You could make one of these, couldn't you?" Woohoo, he said "Absolutely, no problem." I'll just have to figure out where I would want it.

  29. I work from home and would LOVE for my office to looks so lovely and inviting!! I do get "kitty visits" from my cat Cyril. He doesn't have the luxury of his own staircase. Your photos of mid-air jumping are fabulous. He's a beautiful cat!

Your office is beautiful!! Can't wait to see it with all of the finishing touches in place!

  30. Every time I see you home office I fall in love with it more and more. Those organizers from Home Goods are perfect with that gorgeous chair.

  31. Rona's Home Page says

I really love your home office space. I work at home and it's a must to have a fun and creative office to keep me motivated.

Those bird feeders are pretty cool but i'd for sure be shooin' away those squirrels instead of coons at my house!
    Have a wonderful weekend!

  33. Your new office area is looking wonderful and I adore your "coming in for a landing" shot! Too cute =)

  34. Ever - The red house by the lake says

When I saw the first picture, my first thought was "Wow, that's the first time I've seen the office without Max on the desk". 😉

Those stairs looks so much better in white.

So funny that the organizers matches the armchair and I am really impressed by your organzied drawers!

  35. FABBY'S LIVING says

Oh Susan, your cat cracks me up, he's always up to something and it looks like he's your adorable companion, pets are the best! I still miss Ben my pug that died last year. I love the way you fixed your lovely office, everything is just so! I want to do the same with my daughter's rooms, you're great inspiration! Thanks.

  36. Lucky Max! My cats are jealous of him…they want those steps!

  37. laxsupermom says

Love the new organizers! How cool is it that they matched your chair so well? Can't wait to see all your wall stuff installed.

  38. Love the pictures of Mr. Maxx! How cute! I love your dividers and I agree they made them just for you! 🙂 I have one in a red/green/gold paisley for my desk. In fact while looking at your pictures I realized how similar some of your items were to mine! Your room has come together nicely- and I love the color. You get a great view too!

  39. Heaven's Walk says

LOL! I had to just laugh at your "husky cat" photo, Susan! I've got a 15 pounder, too! She just 'thawamps' her way up and down the basement stairs! lol! Love what you've done with your office and desk and new chair! Beautiful!

Great post Susan! Did we renovate our offices for us, or really for our cats?

  43. I think you are right…the steps are perfect and the desk organizers are too. Can't wait to see the room complete…it's been a journey!

  44. Susan,
The room looks terrific! And so kind to have the steps installed there for Max!

  45. Carolyn @ Adrift on the Lake says

I was just looking at your room again and noticed Max is a calico. I didn't realize there were male calico cats — I always thought every calico was a female. So I googled it and yep, they do exist. Very rare. And very cool!

  46. Your office is coming along beautifully. Thanks for telling us the paint colour, I just may try it myself. Lana http://www.lifeatwildberrycottage.com

Carolyn, I think Max may be a Norwegian Forest Cat. I adopted him from a shelter, but I've had several folks tell me he looks like a Norwegian Forest Cat. They have the best personalities.

Here's a couple of links that make me think he is a Weegie.

    Susan:
You have done a beautiful job on the office and I am so proud of your accomplishments. I agree with you. I believe the bulletin board might look better even with the top of your windows. I thoroughly enjoy your blog and they way you decorate your beautiful home.

  50. Susan,
You are such a inspiration! I am trying very hard to organize my entire house! One thing I have been wanting to do is write a blog, but didn’t really know what to write about. Well, combining a blog with organization is what I am now considering since I have seen your blog. I don’t know exactly how one connected to the other, but I was inspired by yours and am now seriously working on the process and organization of it. Hopefully, using a blog will be one way to keep all my stories in one place, but not have piles of papers or notebooks filled with papers. Thank you for your suggestions and interest in your readers opinions.

  51. I’m so glad I stumbled onto your blog. I’m looking for a cork board cabinet like the one of your photo. Was this a DIY or did you buy it somewhere. I’ve been searching on the Internet but it hasn’t come up as a product I can just buy. Any leads would be great.
