A Cozy, Candlelit Thanksgiving Table Setting

Welcome to the 584th Tablescape Thursday!

Happy Thanksgiving to you! I’m so excited because I have a beautiful Thanksgiving table to share today, a table created by my friend, Teresa, for her Thanksgiving feast with family this year.

You may recognize Teresa from the fun, crazy adventures we had together while traveling through Egypt. Teresa was there when I was almost pickpocketed while shopping in the infamous Khan Al-Khalili Bazaar. (Read more about that here: How I Foiled a Pickpocket Theif in the Khan Al-Khalili Bazaar in Cario.)

It was Teresa who figured out the open-sesame, secret password that got us into the historically famous Old Cataract Hotel in Aswan…

…where Teresa (shown below) and I enjoyed a special dinner…

…after touring the suite overlooking the Nile River where Agatha Christie stayed during the time she was writing her famous novel, Death on the Nile. (See the tour and read more about the Old Cataract in this post:  In The Footsteps of Agatha Christie: A Visit to the Old Cataract Hotel in Aswan Egypt.)

Traveling across Egypt is definitely a great trip neither of us will ever forget despite some of the interesting experiences we had along the way.

Teresa set the most beautiful table for her family for Thanksgiving! Teresa said, “It’s been raining and cold so I was motivated to shop my home for this Thanksgiving tablescape.”

What a gorgeous dining room! I love the ceiling! It seems to radiate down warmth in this cozy setting.

The candlelight is so relaxing and the floral centerpieces create just the right amount of drama for this beautiful setting.

Teresa shared a great story about the china she used for this dinner. It’s monogrammed with the letter “M” which happens to be Teresa monogram for her last name. Teresa said, “Interesting story- the china picked up in Avondale Estates, GA at an estate sale for only $90. They were downsizing and it was the end of the day so they were radically discounting. It included (12) place settings, complete with serving pieces. The owner’s husband served in Japan and had custom “M” monogrammed the china in gold as a gift for his new wife back home. The mark on the back reads “Hakusan China Made in Japan”

How amazing is that–to find beautiful china with your own monogram!

The wood bowl in the centerpiece are souvenirs from Africa and Australia. The floral twigs and orange wheat used in centerpieces from Hobby Lobby and the small wood hand carved pig is a souvenir from Bali.

Teresa said, “I tried to create harmony using orange-colored candles. To get the same color it involved roaming the isles of two stores due to limited quantities. Retailers had limited fall accessories and were concentrating on Christmas. TJ Maxx and At Home resolved the candle dilemma.”

Teresa folded her napkins in the shape of a Bird of Paradise. The flatware is Strasbourg by Gorham. The crystal goblets are Sonate by Peill while the glass goblets were an estate sale find.

The cute gnomes on Teresa’s table (named Comfort and Joy) are by Thomas Clark, 1992. Regarding the gnomes, Teresa said, “Recently purchased in honor of my mom and her best friend. They lived in Breslau aka Wroclaw which has gnome bronzes around the city. A very fun adventure to seek them out – like Pokemon except without the digital connection.”

I’ll leave you with a lovely vignette on the credenza in Teresa’s dining room featuring a cute plate by Lladro titled, “Cat Lover.”

Thanks so much to Teresa for bringing us into her beautiful dining room for a peek at how she and her family will be celebrating Thanksgiving today.

  1. Teresa’s Thanksgiving tablescape is stunning. Loved the image of that camel doing what appears to be looking back and “admiring” his rider, haha.

    Happy Thanksgiving, Susan.

  2. Susan, Thank you for the accolades and sharing. I had fun rummaging it all together and then chuckling with myself how difficult it is to take photos when it’s not just for my own pleasure. I always knew how much time you spend on your blog and it shows to perfection.
It’s a day to express gratitude and I am truly grateful for your presence in my world sweet friend. Enjoy your day with family and Happy Thanksgiving! Teresa

  5. Lovely table. Hope everyone enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner.
Teresa, can I have a closer look at the clear goblets ? Last year I found a beautiful goblet at GoodWill but not a set. Who knows why they separate everything donated and put out a piece here and a piece there.

    • Hello Myrna, Goodwill & estate sales are a great place to find crystal. This set of crystal is Sonate by Peill. There may be clear photo on replacements.com Happy shopping!
