A Fairytale Cottage in Carmel

Carmel, California is known for having some of the cutest “fairytale” cottages you’ve ever seen. Since I love a storybook home, I was excited to discover one of them is currently for sale AND there are photos online showing the interior of this adorable home.

This cottage is listed with Carmel Realty Company.

It’s named Short Stop…even the name is cute! The real estate listing says it features an ocean view and is “just a stroll to Carmel Beach and the shops and restaurants of downtown Carmel.”

Let’s take a little peak inside. It has that beachy vibe with bright, fun colors throughout. The walls appear to be trimmed out in the board and batten style, so popular today.

This home is furnished in a what I’d call an eclectic style, mixing different design styles and furniture styles to create a fun, casual interior. Do you see the little window seat?

Isn’t it wonderful? It’s the perfect spot to curl up with a good book or for a lazy afternoon nap.

The French doors in the kitchen open to a nice deck that’s perfect for dining outside on fair weather days.

This home has two bedrooms. The board and batten wall design continues into the bedroom.

And here’s the 2nd bedroom. Each bedroom has its own bath.

Back outdoors: I love this craggy ole tree. Isn’t it perfect for this charming cottage?

This sweet cottage is just 1050 square feet with two bedrooms. Would you enjoy living in a picturesque, storybook cottage? Would a 2 bedroom, 2 bath home be enough space or would you require more room? It would definitely make a perfect vacation home!

I can just smell the beach from here. What a beautiful place. Thanks for sharing!

  2. I would hate to see the price-but it is a cute home…
I was just in Carmel but didn't look at the houses this time. There are some terrific small shops there and the restaurants are great! Doris Day lives in Carmel
and there have been sightings of her at a local grocery store…what fun!

  3. No doubt about it, this is a fairytale cottage. Carmel and Monterey if my favorite area to visit, but it would be hard for me to wrap my head around spending over a million dollars for a house that size. Sure made me want to feel the cool breezes of that area again though.

  7. We were in Carmel last year and saw all the Hugh Comstock cottages out there. We could only see the inside but they are all charming on the outside and I can only imagine how cute they are inside!!

  8. Susan,
I love cottages, too. I guess that's why I live in one now! I've been to Carmel and thought it was the most beautiful place. Since the temperature doesn't get below freezing, the flowers are incredible. I could always imagine myself in one of those charming beach cottages.

  9. "Cottage, Sweet Cottage!!" franki

  10. Oh, I have always wanted to see INSIDE a Carmel cottage! Aren't they wonderful!!!!

  11. We were there in February and saw so many amazing homes. We would have loved to have seen more of them on the inside, maybe with some dinner and drinks on their patios too.

Susan Hubby and I just spent the day in Carmel sitting at the beach on Thurs. In fact I posted about a cute jacket I got to wear on our visits to the beach. My all time fav place to visit. If I had a million plus to spend on a home it would be there for sure. It is a gorgeous setting and the homes are beyond imazing. There is a blog that walks the streets of Carmel for us and is a wonderful look into the quaint village of Carmel proper. Here is the link, I am sure you would love it. She did a post on this very house which is right down the street from her home.

  21. love this post. We are going to CA next month and will be visiting Carmel. Can't wait.It looks so charming.

Susan, you just made me do a wild goose search! Old family friends have one of the most historic houses in Carmel – a stone house/castle and I tried looking them up but honestly don't even know if they live there anymore. Thanks for the trip! I love cottages!

  31. Jenny Lee says

Susan~ ~Have you seen the book "Cottages by the Sea" The Handmade Homes of Carmel, America's First Artist Community.
It's a lovely book with lots of exterior and interior shots of some of the sweetest cottages. I have it right here and may just spend some time dreaming with it tonight!

  37. Susan (Between Naps on the Porch) says

Ahrisha, I have not seen that one…off to Amazon to look for it! 🙂

  38. Terry @ La Bella Vie says

OK so I grew up in the Carmel area and have always loved it, however few of us could afford this little beauty but I can dream can't I???
    Love it!

  39. Laura Lynn says

Beautiful! I used to live in that area and would move back in a heartbeat if I could!

  40. I visited the Carmel area last summer and really liked the cottages. However, my family roots in Virginia go back over 400 years so my love of Virginia goes deep with its beautiful mountain rangeS, piedmont area, and ocean (don't love the humidity though)

  41. It was 1978 and I was visiting the city of San Francisco and a friend in Santa Cruz: didn't know much about Carmel except that it was the setting for one of my all time favorite movies, "Play Misty for Me". Well, we took a drive and spent the day walking through and lunching in this exquisite town. Let's just say that for twenty something me it was love at first sight! Still dream of Carmel(and the Lanz of Salzburg store I did a lot of shopping in).

  42. Short Stop is the name of the house and that is how the mail is delivered. They don’t have addresses but names, in just the village. My friend’s house was named Frog Hollow, cute.

  43. Vacation home?? Heavens no. No more vacation homes. I live in my vacation home and probably will until I die. I know now that the “little cottage dream” will have to be right here..I will have to create it. The tiny yellow house is perfection and close to what I dream of also. Yes, full time is what is left for me…and it’s running out quickly.
Your choice of a home is …precious..

  44. I’ve also been to Carmel and immediately fell in love with the town. If I lived in a charming little cottage like that, I’d die a happy woman! haha So sweet. I can almost hear, smell and feel the ocean breezes, just by looking at the pics. ~sigh~

I'd love to hear from you! Please leave a comment!
