A Few Updates For The Guest Room

Welcome to the 723rd Metamorphosis Monday!

It’s dark and rainy out so I had a tough time getting some decent photos this morning. Yellow walls seem to completely freak out my camera. The walls in my guest room are a pale yellow, not the dark yellow they appear below.

Guest Bedroom in Blue and White

This photo is a bit more accurate, but still too dark. The yellow you see above the secretary is a bit more accurate. I am thinking of having this room painted but not sure if I’ll stay with a soft yellow or go with a soft white of some shade. Anyway, the change I made to this room were the pictures on the wall above the lamp.

Guest Room in Blue, White, Yellow

I’ve been clearing out all my closets and taking things down to the storage area in the basement. I came across these pictures that I think were originally purchased for this room. Not sure why I never got around to hanging them, but I took care of that a few days ago.

Pictures for the Guest Room

This picture with the lamp turned off much more accurately shows the wall color in this room.

I need to write a catch-up post. I’ve been getting estimates for bath renovations and for adding drywall to the unfinished room in the basement. I’ll share more on that real soon. Can you tell I’ve caught the renovation bug? I have it bad! More on all that soon! Looking forward to all the great Before and Afters linked for this week’s Met Monday!

Metamorphosis Monday: Metamorphosis Monday is a party that’s all about Before and Afters. Please link up your Before and After projects like DIY projects, room makeovers, craft projects even recipes. Please do not link up Table Settings, save those for our Tablescape Thursday party on Thursday. If you are participating in Met Monday, you’ll need to link your post to the party using the “permalink” to your MM post and not your general blog address. To get your permalink, click on the name of your post, then copy and paste the address that shows in the address bar at the top of your blog, into the “url” box for InLinkz when prompted. NOTE: Please do not link up more than 3 posts from your blog. In order to link up, you’ll need to include a link in your post back to the party so visitors to your blog can find the other party participants.  When linking up to the party, give the InLinkz system time to find the link in your post to avoid having your link held for moderation/approval. 1. I like the pictures! The whole room is so cozy and inviting. Who wouldn’t want to be a guest there? And yes, your renovation bug is very apparent! 😀 I love it. You’re getting so much accomplished and so quickly. It’s going to be like having a whole new house.

  2. I love this room! Absolutely paint a shade of white. You will love how it really brightens the room. I too have a blue and white room and can hardly wait to paint that room a soft shade of white although the soft tan doesn’t look bad, but the white will really make the the bedding pop.

    • Thanks, Gina! The only thing I worry about is how my off white/cream secretary will look…and the white bookcases/cabinets down the left wall, although they take up most of that wall.

  3. It looks lovely even when it is dark and raining outside 🙂

  4. I love your room, especially your yellow walls! It’s so cheerful and pretty. The pictures look beautiful, too!

  5. One more thing. I don’t think your white furniture would stand out if you painted the room white.

  6. That room has been one of my favorites FOREVER. I have “copied” and purchased many things you have recommended and am now redoing a guest room to be more “adult”. Do you have any idea approximately what the dimensions of that room are?

Wow! You are as busy as a bee! I love doing renovations too! I can’t wait until you show us what you plan on doing.
Also doing this during the holiday season is going to keep you super busy and will keep the Reno people in business! I really like that!

    • The basement part shouldn’t be too complicated, but I’m kinda dreading the bathrooms. So many decisions to make! Exactly! It feels good to be giving them business right now. I’ve noticed that the folks I’ve been talking to are eager to get started, so business must be down this time of year. I may go ahead and get the drywall done this month, just depends on if I can fit it in.

  8. The room looks so pretty and cozy. Love the framed pictures. Just the right spot for them. Yellow is my favorite color. My studio is a pretty color of yellow and our master bedroom is a lovely shade of yellow moire wall paper. It looks beautiful in the morning in the sunlight. My sunroom is a hand painted very soft yellow color, also. Sooooo…I guess you know I vote for keeping it yellow! 🙂

I love this room so much I wish I could duplicate it exactly! I think I could spend my life in it if I just had a way to fix food. The new pics are great. I personally like the yellow walls, but a soft white would probably look good, also.

    • Thanks so much, Maureen! The Ralph Lauren bedding must have been popular because they brought it back again a few years ago. It may still be out there on some sites. The yellow floral fabric was a Sanderson fabric I had made into window treatments, table topper and pillows. I don’t think it’s around anymore. I remember it had “ribbon” in the name. Sanderson still make some gorgeous fabrics, though.

  10. Please don’t change the yellow walls. They are so cheerful and beautiful with the blue bedspread.

    • Thanks, Mary! I probably won’t since I’m not sure how white would look with all the white cabinets/bookcases and bed in this room. Plus, I have too many other projects to focus on right now.

    are you decorating for xmas?

  12. I love the soft yellow of this room, its sunny, but not bright…inviting! The pictures look great in the room too. Ha! I blame the garage reno for your reno bug! lol All fun and kidding aside, I love all your renovations and organization you have been doing. You go Susan! Hugs, Brenda

    • Thanks so much, Brenda! And you are right…it’s the garage that got this whole ball rolling! lol I going to need courage for the bathrooms! Ha!

  13. A soft white would make the other things in the room “pop”. I’ve enjoyed the renovations you’ve done so far; everything you’ve done looks so good!

  14. I can imagine how lovely it would be to fall asleep in this room!

  15. Tina W Reynolds says

I love your guest room. It is a cheerful and interesting room. I really like the yellow and I think you achieved the correct shade, so I would keep it! My own bedroom is a much darker, smokier yellow. The paint was called “Boullion”. So, that tells the story. Interestingly, when the sun comes up, and my room faces East, the facing wall appears very light, while late at night, with the blinds closed and lamps on, it can almost look like a deep amber suede! Usually, no two walls appear the same, but we enjoy it and it feels cozy. It is highly influenced by the light. The prior color was a white paint that was called “Swiss Cream” or something near that. It was pretty cold, all in all. p.s., Susan; Today I ordered a 12-piece set of that Lenox Winter Greetings which you featured recently. I got a good bargain. I will love it for years!

  16. Thanks again for hosting this charming party every week! I know how much time goes into doing so and I want you to know that it I truly appreciate it!! Stay safe, healthy and happy!!
    Hugs,
    Debbie

  17. Susan – no need to post this comment – but fyi I thought you would like to know that there is a recall on The Laundress products because of bacteria in the products! I think you can find the info if you google…

    • Thanks, Liz. I did get a notice about that since I purchased mine via Amazon. I have 4 products and I think 3 are part of the recall. Thanks for letting me know though…in case I didn’t.
