A New Addition to the Office and Antiquing at the Queen of Hearts

Wow! So much amazing creativity and talent in Blogland! Have you checked out all the wonderful Before and Afters linked for yesterday’s Met Monday? You amaze me each and every week with the projects you take on in your own homes and the beauty you create for your families and the ones you love. Thanks so much for sharing your talents and most of all, thanks for showing us how we can do it, too! I’m convinced Bloggers are the most generous sharing folks in the whole wide world!

Exciting news for the office.  I was out shopping for a rug and I tripped over the chair I’ve been dreaming of for a little sitting/reading area in the office. I haven’t really shared my “layout” or the plans I have for the office yet, because I am expecting it to take a while to find all the “parts and pieces.” On Monday, I’ll try to share a bit more about my vision for this space.

In the meantime, here’s a glimpse of the very first step toward “pretty” for the office. (Sorry about the lines/distortion in this photo…this chair doesn’t have lines in the fabric so I’m not sure why the camera created them in the pic.)

I know this is a tease, (don’t beat me) but I really want to wait until our next Met Monday to share this new addition since right now it is against walls that are beyond ugly. This chair deserves better. I will say, I think you are going to LOVE it. The store told me they only had 6 in the warehouse…so if you love it when you see it on Monday, you need to hightail it to the nearest store and grab it while the grabbing is good.

Antiquing Trip:
In the meantime, let’s do a little antiquing at the Queen of Hearts in Alpharetta, Georgia. On a recent trip there, first thing I spied were these darling pendant lights. I’m not normally a huge fan of pendant lights but these were about the cutest ones I’ve seen. Love the shape of the globe.

I was surprised to come across this baby buggy from the Victorian period. Isn’t it amazing?! It dates back to the 1890’s and is in its original condition. It was priced at $1,995. This would be a great piece to put on display in a “museum home” that was built during that period.

I wanted to get a shot of this beautiful bed. It had a lot of other stuff on top but I think you can see its gorgeous headboard and footboard.

Here’s a little close up of the headboard…isn’t it wonderful?

I also came across these two single beds. I used to contemplate turning my son’s old room into another guest room with single beds…and these would have been perfect. Those plans changed, now didn’t they? Ha! I think these beds were priced around $895 for the pair, if I’m remembering correctly.

I really liked this blue and white chair, but then I love anything that’s blue and white. Wouldn’t this be great in room all decorated in those classic colors of blue and white? It was in excellent condition. Sorry, I totally forgot to get a price.

I just love these old dress forms. This one was priced at $285. You can read about my near miss and the “fight” for my dress form HERE. 😉

Each time I visit the Queen of Hearts, I have to make a stop by Transferware Heaven…well, that’s what I call it anyway. 😉 If you die and go to china heaven, this must be what you see. 😉

Transferware in all colors…all brands…all shapes…all sizes…

~~~Sigh~~~
If you love transferware, you need to check all these booths out when you visit Queen of Hearts.
As I was leaving, I came across this pretty cabinet near the door. I love the arched doors but it’s not quite what I have in mind for the office. I have a nice blank wall in the office where I’m envisioning a large cabinet with big glass doors with panes on the top half, behind which I can keep books and pretties. It will have cabinetry below for storing other office stuff away. I can see it in my head…may take a while to find it, though.
Do you do that? Do you dream up a piece in your head, then torture yourself trying to find it. 😉 I know when the time is right, it will find me. Ya just gotta have faith.
So that’s our shopping trip this time out. I’ll be doing a lot of thrifting and antiquing over the next few weeks as I search high and low for the 3-4 pieces I need to complete the home office I’m building. I’ll be sure to take some pics so you can go with me. Antiquing is so much more fun when it’s done with a friend. 🙂
  17. I have never seen so much dishware in one spot before. AMAZING!!!
  18. Yes, Susan I dream up pieces all the time and they become a quest. I think we all do a little of that from time to time. Love the chair fabric. I just got my fabric samples for the playroom cushions and I am so excited they are better in person than on-line. Now for the decision making!!Kathysue
  19. Sue (Someone's Mom) says
    I already love your chair and I can't wait to see it in place. I can't believe all that china…oh my!
  22. CherishedHearts Vintage says
    I would love to spend a day, or two, or three in that antique shop. I'm so lucky to have a fiance that loves old things as much as I do.
  23. What was that ginormous clock just to the right and behind the dress form? For real? A clock that large? Intriguing…..
    Poindextr…I know, it's huge!
    Your office looks great. You seem to be enjoying the process too. It's so fun to see something in your head become a reality.
    Your blog has been regular reading for me. I decided to move from the lurker shadows and comment.
    Paula
  26. Susan (Between Naps on the Porch) says
    Hi Paula,
    Yay, for lurkers! I'm glad you are out there and love it when you come out to play! 😉 I'm pretty sure she doesn't have a website. I've seen her there and talked with her and I don't believe she has a site. I wonder if she sells on ebay? Maybe she'll see this post and comment. 🙂
  27. Designs By Pinky says
    Holy Mother, that IS transferware Heaven!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have never seen that many dishes! Our local antigue store has nothing….very little to see. I love your chair so far and can't wait til Monday! Our office is really coming along. Since it is HIS office it is pretty masculine but I still like what we are doing. I thiknk I will post now some more pics…. XO, Pinky
  28. I love that. Now you have me thinking of going to an antique store to see what they might have.
  29. How I wish I could have been that friend that went shopping with you…….what a wonderful antique place to browse! You will recall that I am doll artist, and I bought a baby buggy almost like the one you have pictured. It displays some of my baby dolls. LOVE love love your new chair….that is, what I can see of it…..
  30. Terry @ La Bella Vie says
    OK well I must agree with the first comment left by "INSPIREDHOUSEWIFE" I am ready to have you go be my personal shopper in this place:0) And let me just say, my husband is thrilled I don't live anywhere near you or that great antique shop…I could do some heavy duty damage in there without a doubt and my credit card would be smokin!!!
    Terry
    PS I cannot wait to see the reveal on your new office!
    Thank you for that great field trip, it was great!!!
  31. you need to come up to Clarkesville Ga to the antique mall in the old factory bulding . They have a lot of really neat things plus there are some terrific places to eat in town.
  32. Susan,
    Love love the fabric on your new chair..that is such a beautiful shade of green and the print is perfectly pretty…can't wait to see your new office! Also after seeing the transferware…I hope when I die there is a transferware heaven!!! Just gorgeous!!
    Miss Bloomers
  33. Susan (Between Naps on the Porch) says
    Anonymous…I will have to google Clarksville and see where it is. That sounds like a fun roadtrip for a Saturday. 🙂
  34. We recently purchased a bed very similar to the one in your pictures, the victorian. Did you happen to notice how much it was? Just curious to see if we got a good deal.
  35. We recently bought a bed at an auction that is very similar to the one in your pictures. Do you remember the price? Just wondering if we got a good deal…
  36. Love that chair fabric. That is my favorite shade of green, as evidenced in my house. Just found out I may be in Atlanta the week after Easter, so I'm going to put the Queen of Hearts and A Classy Flea on my list of things to do there. I know the rest of my family won't be thrilled, but it's about give & take, right? LOL! The chair is going to look great in your office. You'll know the right pieces when you see it. Besides, you have to have something for which to shop! At least that's my philosophy! ;o)
  37. BTW, I've already picked out 2 pieces of transferware I won't, so be sure they don't sell it before I get there! LOL! ;o)
  38. Susan (Between Naps on the Porch) says
    Angie, Unfortunately, I didn't think to check. It's still there though because I stopped in today to look again at a light fixture. You could call them and I'm sure they'll be happy to check if you do want to know.
  39. Susan (Between Naps on the Porch) says
    Penny, that's great! Come in an SUV or truck so you can haul your loot back home. Or, you can always just rent a U-haul for one-way. 😉
  40. sweet european dreams says
    Wow. I'm pretty sure that I have never (and I mean NEVER) seen a transferware collection/display like this. It's truly dreamy! One of these days I'll have to make it to GA to check out all of these amazing stores… -diane
  41. Susan (Between Naps on the Porch) says
    Diane, there are so many great ones…you'll need a couple of days to visit them all. 🙂
  42. Wow – oh the options!!!! I want to go there!
  43. Restoration House says
    Wow! I can't wait to see that chair when it's done, I loove that fabric. Those pendants are right up my alley too~! I have never seen so much china in one place before! lol.
  45. Love the chair for the office – can't wait to see more!
  46. Wow, Susan. Maybe we should all have a transferware field trip. I'm certain I could find something that needed to come home with me.♥
  47. Susan, you are certainly a very busy lady these days! Love the peak you gave us on the green chair. can't wait to see the finale of your room transformation. I need to make a visit to your neck of the woods as in New York City suburan area antiquing is a fading pastime. Dealers are struggling competing with Home Goods, Target, TJMaxx etc.
  48. I am so jealous. There is nothing like that anywhere close to where I live. I was drooling over the china. Thanks so much for sharing this with us and showing us what is out there…just not where I live.
  49. fun fun trip! I enjoyed it very much and my feet don't hurt! =D
    Love the sneak peak of your chair. I adore green and damask, so yeah, I am jealous! (but in a good way)
    Can't wait to see how this office progresses. I love your taste and I know it is going to be a dreamy place to work.
    Mary
  50. I've been following your blog for quite a while, but did not realize you live in or near Alpharetta, GA? I live in Cumming! I go to Queen of Hearts all the time. And the dress form that you pictured today was the same shop where I purchased mine a couple of years ago! I cannot believe you got that one you blogged about earlier for $95??? You bet that is a deal. I love-love-love your home and decorating. Oh yes, I also love-love-love-LOVE your cat, Max. I have three Maine Coon kitties who are the center of my life. Marcy
  54. Susan (Between Naps on the Porch) says
    Marcy, thanks! I got really lucky with the dress form. Awww, your kitties sound so sweet. I've heard Maine Coons are really sweet. 🙂 I think Max may be a Norwegian Forest Cat. I adopted him from a shelter so I'm not really sure.
  61. Well after seeing all that transferware, I am off to find that QofH. location. I only know of the one in East Cobb (oops, that is no longer a QofH) and the one on Canton Hwy. in Marietta. I just can't get any work done with all these temptations.
  62. Susan,
    Transferware Heaven! Count me in! Drum roll please cease so that we can see your new work room, filled with techno-whiz gadgets and pretties! You inspire me daily! ~CJ
