Nancy’s Beautiful Porch Addition Helps Keep The Snow at Bay

Welcome to the 631st Metamorphosis Monday, a blog party sharing fabulous Before and Afters!

I love it when I open up my e-mail Inbox and find emails like this one I received recently from Nancy, a reader of BNOTP. Nancy wrote:

Dear Susan:

I hope all is well. I’m one of your fans and blog subscribers. I have owed you this thank you letter for a long time. I moved into my current house 5 years ago in 2015. When searching for ideas to renovate the front door, I found your post about your porch. I loved everything about it, so I just copied it 🙂

Anytime something I post here at BNOTP inspires or sparks an idea, it makes me so happy! Nancy had a beautiful entry as you can see in the photo below, but she decided to make it even better!

Porch Addition, Before Photo

Nancy said, “A front porch is a must to have. As you can see from one of my pictures, snow piled up in front of the door. That was after a snow storm before the porch was built. I’m in New York and the porch totally changed the situation. Now the doormat is always dry no matter what.”

Before Porch Added, Snow against door

Nancy painted her door the same red that I used for my front door: Benjamin Moore’s Heritage Red. It is such a great color red for doors!

Nancy chose 10-inch Roman columns for her porch design. I love the lanterns she chose for her new porch but I think my favorite part is that beautiful arched ceiling! Do they call that a barrel vault ceiling? I absolutely love it!

Nancy placed topiaries on either side of her front porch, as I did with mine. She really liked the planters I used for my topiaries. so she went on a multi-season search to see if she could locate the same ones.

Front Porch with Hanging Lantern, Arched Ceiling

Nancy said, “I searched several seasons until I finally found the same planters at Home Depot in a nearby town.”

Now that is dedication! I’m so impressed that Nancy was still able to find them since I bought mine many years back! Look at those Halloween decorations…sooo fun! I have two of those big hairy spiders. I need to get them out and wrap them around my columns this next Halloween.

Front Porch Decorated for Halloween

For another Halloween, Nancy covered her lantern with a fun Jack-o-lantern covering. Love it!

Such a beautiful view of the porch at Christmastime!

Front Porch Renovation Addition, Topiary Planters

I’m just totally smitten by the arched ceiling! So elegant!

Thanks so much to Nancy for sharing her beautiful porch addition! If I ever move to another home and it needs a porch, I may just have to copy Nancy’s porch design! 🙂

Nancy’s porch is stunning, I too love that ceiling she has! She decorates it well too. I’m sure it is so great to have, especially in the winter months in NY with keeping the snow off the porch so bad. Wind blows and snow flies in our neck of the woods! lol I love her lamps/lighting too. A porch makes all the difference on the front of a home doesn’t it?! Hugs, Brenda

  2. Congratulations to Nancy for an amazing metamorphosis. Her porch is beautiful. I also have an arched ceiling on my front porch and I have always liked it.

  4. Nancy’s porch is so awesome! I love both the barrel ceiling as well as your flat ceiling. Seeing her seasonal decoration makes me wonder if there should be a special category or posts dedicated to Halloween, Christmas, and Easter porch decor, especially since you always do such a great job with yours Susan!
Made me want to go back and do a seasonal decor porch roundup! Thanks for this fun post! Great way to start my day!

Susan, I totally agree with you, this porch is splendid. Love the ceiling. My door is painted the same color but there the similarity ends. I will have to take another look at mine to see what I can do to spiff it up. I do have a haint blue ceiling on my porch which I love. Thanks for posting this inspiration on what is a cold, dreary day in Dallas.

    • Nancy Li says

      Hi Ruth:

It is “Quoizel Chimera 1 Light 11″ Wide Outdoor Pendant Lantern with Clear Water Glass”
      Model: CHI1911IB
      I ordered it from lightingdirect.com.

  23. Teresa M. says

I liked seeing the Before and After(s) through the seasons. Great addition.

  24. Bobbi Duncan says

I love well thought out transformations, and this porch certainly is one–oh, that barrel ceiling! Love the way they placed the lights on either side of the door. I have no doubt that many, many have taken away awesome ideas from your blog, Susan–know I have. Weather is changing, with days in the mid 50’s, and the first blooms on the some of flowering trees should come about in 3 weeks. I pray spring will help to revive hope for everyone. Hugs, sweet friend.

  25. Thank you all kind compliments. Thanks Susan again for your great taste and all the detailed information about everything. One more thing that is so important that I have got the idea from you when planning for my porch is that I saved spots for those two planters on both sides of the steps. More often people just have steps stretch all over, full length to the ends. With these two planters there it is so easy to decorate for the seasons. The square planters are perfect on portion and line up nicely with the porch. Thanks Susan , thanks internet : ))

  26. Thanks for another great party Susan. Fun and informative as always. Happy March! XO- MaryJo

  27. So many beautiful porches! Thanks so much for hosting. I can’t wait to dive into all these fabulous links. I hope your week is a special one, CoCo

  28. Cyndi Raines says
