A Red, White & Blue Patriotic Table Setting in Honor of Memorial Day

Welcome to the 504th Tablescape Thursday!

We’ve been getting some really heavy storms here each day, so I decided to place my table inside this week. I’ve put together a patriotic setting in honor of Memorial Day, but this setting would also work great for the 4th of July or any other patriotic occasion or holiday.

Memorial Day Table Setting

This setting is all about the Red, White and Blue as we celebrate our great country and honor those who have sacrificed for the freedoms we enjoy every day.

I really enjoy using these bark-edged chargers for casual table settings, love how they contrast against rich color like vibrant reds and blues. I never realized how much I would use them when I first purchased them. I thought they would mostly come in handy for fall/autumn settings, but they work great any time of the year when you want a casual charger. You’ll find them available here: Chargers.

Recently, I shared these adorable bicycle napkin rings I picked up while visiting family in Ohio.

Bicycle Napkin Rings, Beaded

They work really well in a patriotic table setting with their cheerful red, white and blue color scheme. They are currently on sale here: Bicycle Napkin Ring.

I purchased the star napkins several years ago and was surprised to find they are still being made. They are available here: Star Napkins.  I use them so often for 4th of July settings…love them!

For today’s table I layered them over navy gingham napkins. Can’t remember now where I found these but I found some really cute ones with a scalloped edge here: Navy Gingham Napkins. Also found them here: Navy Gingham Napkins.

I also liked how the gingham looked over the star napkins, so I ended up alternating them for each place setting. Which way do you like them best…with the star or the gingham napkin on top?

I was tempted to use this cute flag flatware in today’s table. You may remember it from previous patriotic table settings.

But I loved the way this black flatware looked with the bark chargers, napkin rings and striped dishware.

Just love how it contrasts with the vibrant colors of the Warren Kimble dinnerware. I also use this black flatware a lot in Halloween tablescapes.

If you’re in need of black flatware, you’ll find this pattern available here: Flatware and here: Flatware. The Warren Kimble flag/striped dishware is no longer being made, but I found some here: Flag Dinnerware.

I paired my Noritake Breeze glassware in this pretty shade of blue with these whimsical, red solo-cup wine glasses. I’m not sure if Noritake still makes their breeze glassware in blue, but they definitely make it in clear here: Iced Beverage.

The red Solo-cup wine glasses are available here: Red Cup Wine Glasses. They would be great for a backyard barbecue…guaranteed to bring a few laughs.

I love using my Nora Fleming pedestal in holiday centerpieces, matching one of the cute minis to the occasion. You’ll find the pedestal available here: Pedestal. I’m thinking of adding one of the platters to my collection next. They have so many great serving pieces, hard to choose!

You’ll find more information for making this fun, patriotic-themed sundae here: Sundae. The tutorial for making it can be found here: DIY Sundae. I couldn’t find my patriotic confetti to sprinkle around the cupcakes. I think it got moved when I moved all the dishware to my storage cabinets in the garage.

Nora Fleming makes so many cute patriotic minis! I pulled out my flag one for today’s tablescape.

The flag mini is available here: Flag. See all the other patriotic minis available here: Patriotic Minis. I may have to add the Uncle Sam hat to my collection eventually. They are addictive!

If I was cooking out this year for Memorial Day, this is probably the mini I would have used in this table setting. I first bought the grill mini for my son and dil since they cook out all the time. When I saw it in person, it was so cute I had to get one for myself. I should grill out more, used to do that all the time! This cute “Grill” mini is available here: Grill.

Are you staying home for Memorial Day? I know a lot of folks here are traveling, especially since yesterday was the last day of school here.

I’ll be doing something really exciting: pulling weeds in the flower beds and islands. Hope you are enjoying this long weekend in a much more relaxing way than weeding! There are also going to be some great sales going on, I will definitely be checking those out, that is if I can still move after all the weeding.

If you’re looking for additional ideas for your Memorial Day gatherings, you’ll find many more here: Holiday Home: Patriotic Holidays.

  1. Great table with a great mix of patriotic items, Susan. I like both mixes of the napkin overlays, and those napkin rings are super cute.

I actually like your idea of playing in dirt and taking advantage of sales this weekend. I hung my US flag in the garden yesterday. I can’t seem to go out into my garden without coming back with dirty feet/hands, and a bagful of weeds, so I’m sure I’ll be doing my share of weeding too. It’s an obsession! We have one family obligation Monday, and the city sponsors a couple art events and restaurant tasting Sat-Sun, so I may wander around those. Enjoy your time!

  2. So many cute patriotic things. Your centerpiece is really fun and unique. Wow, those plates and that flag flatware is amazing. Patriotic tableware is in short supply here. I should work on that!

  3. omg Susan, those napkin rings are the cutest! I’ve already got them in my online basket! I hope you have a wonderful Memorial Day!

Hi Susan! We’ve been doing some financial planning and I have been BUSY, so away — but couldn’t resist popping on with your red, white, blue decor! I need to inventory my patriotic things! You’ve got some cute choices here! I like the star napkins on top — a real patriotic punch and the dark pops on the plates. Love the small check peaking through the top! We’ll probably be low-keying it, too! Our wedding anniversary is May 31st, and we always go back and forth on how to celebrate both! I think this year we are going to focus on the anniversary with a red, white, blue theme! So thanks for the ideas!! Have “fun” pulling weeds! I’m in gardening mode, too; just returned from the nursery this morning, and plan to go back and get some more things, so eager to do some planting. Have a wonderful Memorial Day!

  5. Stars and stripes–what a combo; someone knew what they were doing way back when! Love everything, especially those star napkins. Wish I were young enough to kneel down, weed, AND get back up, so yeah, do envy the weeding. Some, lol.

I always love Warren Kimble designs, have some plates and mugs, need to put them out. Thanks for the reminder. Enjoy your weekend. It’s great to get things done you need to do. After you can relax on your beautiful porch with a cold glass of iced tea…..yummy. I will be right over to join you.

  7. FABIOLA ALBA says

Thank you so much dear Susan for this great party and the inspiration from your patriotic table, as even the 4th of July is almost here… amazing, 1/2 year is gone almost !
    Have a happy weekend ahead.
    Fabby

  8. I like it all, but do so love the star napkins on the outside. I will have a relatively quiet weekend. Plan to volunteer at my local history center–love to meet and greet and talk to all the folks coming for our arts festival. Other than that it’s on to the war heroes portrayed on Turner Classic Movies or wherever I can find them–I, like you, honor those who have fought to protect us and our liberty.

  9. What a beautiful table setting. Everything is just perfect. It is a lovely tribute for all the heroes who served. Thank You for sharing. Those cupcakes look delicious. God Bless you and yours and all who served..

  12. I like the stars on the outside for the napkins. I have collected the NF minis for quite some time; they are addictive but help make a fun table!

Love love love the sundae centerpiece. Way tooooo cute. Going to make one for myself and my MIL. Thank you so much for sharing your tutorial on how to make one. I’m off to Walmart now.
Oh I like the star napkin on the outside. You can see more stars that way.

  14. So cute!! I especially love the star napkins!

    Happy Memorial Day Susan!

  16. Hi Susan! Thank you for hosting Tablescape Thursday ~ saw your lovely patriotic tablesetting at the Tea and Roses link party. Just coming over from there and saw your link party, too. 🙂 Happy to share three recent tablesettings with you and your readers. The little ceramic grill is cute! Fun setting!!!

    Have a blessed week,
