A Spooky, Fun Halloween Dinner Party, Plus, Some Clever Ideas for Your Halloween Decor

Welcome to the 735th Tablescape Thursday! Norma, a lovely BNOTP reader whose tables I’ve shared before, recently had friends over dinner. She created a whimsical table setting with a fun Halloween theme.

Norma always finds the neatest things in her local charity shops in France, so many of the items she used in her decorations were thrifted.

Norma said, “I made the napkins years ago. The fabric was called, Ghouls night out,  which I thought was very funny!” Norma often sews fabulous banners for her dinner parties, too! Love the napkin rings! I need to find some of those to go with my recently purchased raven dinnerware.

Be extra careful as you take a sip of your drink, someone has beat you to it!

Love the mercury glass pumpkin!

Ravens and crows are one of my favorite decorations for Halloween. Apparently, they are extremely smart. I read that a crow can actually remember an individual human’s face for two years, so if you frighten a crow, it will remember you for a long time!

Ohhh, love this table by candlelight!

Norma also shared some of her spooky incredible Halloween decor. Love this mantel! That mirror is perfect!

Another fun vignette! Norma said, “The witch’s cauldron is actually a genuine old French one.”

I was wondering how Norma created this realistic-looking, bubbling concoction inside the cauldron. She said, “I put green fairy lights under some pillow filler to look as if it is bubbling!” What a clever idea!

Norma gave her 19th Century portrait a mask! Hilarious! This would be so fun to stumble upon as a guest when visiting someone’s home for a Halloween dinner or party! Ha!

Thanks so much to Norma for inviting us over for this spooky fun dinner party and for sharing some of her fun Halloween decor. I loved it all!

Looking forward to all the beautiful table settings linked for this week’s Tablescape Thursday!

  2. So many things to love in this home! 1. LOVE that portrait with mask and cobwebs. 2. Yearning for that bunny tureen on the shelf. 3. What a great idea with the bubbling cauldron. 4. The mirror is cute too. Let me know if you find raven napkin rings. Ravens and crows have really gotten a bad rap. Bats too.

  3. Well done, Norma! Especially love the witch cutouts on the mirror. Wondering if they were done with a Cricut device?

  4. Thank you for hosting!

  7. I didn’t know they celebrated Halloween in France! Norma, your decorations are so detailed. Your table has so many elements similar to what Susan would have. I also love the mask on the portrait. How fun and funny! That cauldron looks so realistic – not that I would know! Yikes! Even the goblets fit right in with the theme. Well done. I hope you get lots of Trick-or-Treaters. Happy Halloween. 🙂

      Hi Pam
Halloween has been slowly creeping ( pardon the pun! ) into France for the last few years. Now the shops are full of Halloween goods.
We never have Trick-or-Treaters as we are quite isolated and have no near neighbours, but they do exist here.

      • Hi Norma, thanks for answering! That’s interesting about it creeping in over there. That’s essentially what I’ve heard about England, as well. That they’ve picked it up due to the Americans, lol.

I did remember that you lived in the countryside, but hoped you might get a few children. It’s always so fun to see them in their costumes and their delight when you give them some candy! I remember as a little girl, I could hardly believe we got to go around and collect free candy from our neighbors! Haha. But not having trick-or-treaters makes it even more impressive that you went all out with your decorations.

You seem to have a little slice of heaven there, in the French countryside. I hope you enjoy it as much as I imagine you do.

So well done, Norma…love it all! I’m stealing your ideas for next Halloween. I’ve been trying to figure out how to create a realistic bubbling cauldron…yours is perfect! Happy Halloween everyone!
