A St. Patrick’s Day Dinner with Friends

Welcome to the 546th Tablescape Thursday!

Recently I received an email from Agnes with photos of a beautiful table she had set for St. Patrick’s Day. Agnes wrote, “We love to have friends over….my New Year’s resolution (again) was to do something each month (I usually only get to February).”

“St Patrick’s was a good choice (I had the green cabbage leaf plates and bowls). We invited four couples…McGukins, McCutcheons, McClendons (seriously) and Traylors (which we renamed McTraylors)…and of course us… (Mc)Mitchells!”

St. Patrick's Day Dinner Celebration with Friends

Agnes put together a wonderful menu for her St. Patrick’s Day celebration with friends. Agnes said, “The appetizers were Emerald Champagne (creme de mendt/sparkling grape juice…very pretty), wonton cups with guacamole, and a green veggie skewer.”

Cabbage Leaf Placemats for a St. Patrick's Day Table Setting

Agnes shared the wonderful meal she prepared, “I served Corn beef/cabbage, potatoes, carrots, cornbread, clover-shaped biscuits, and of course green tea and coffee with Irish cream. Dessert was sourdough bread pudding with an Irish whiskey sauce ( do try it…Pioneer Woman recipe).”

I love the shamrocks all down the center of the table…so pretty!

St. Patrick's Day Table, 2019

Agnes set the table with Lenox “Butler’s Pantry Bead” for the dinner plate, combined with Bordello Pinheiro Cabbage plates and bowls. The bread plates, salt/pepper shakers, and butter dish are all Wilton Armetale. Glassware is Mikasa Green Swirl. The flatware is by Towle.

Cabbage Leaf Plates and Bowls

Agnes found her cabbage-leaf placemats on eBay. I love how “ruffled” they look, like real cabbage leaves! The napkins were a great clearance find at Dilliards. I need to check out Dillards more often!

Thanks so much to Agnes for sharing this wonderful St. Patrick’s Day celebration with friends! I can just imagine the fun and laughter enjoyed that evening around this beautiful table!

Tablescape Thursday

If you are participating in Tablescape Thursday, please be sure to add your permalink below, and not your general blog address. To get your permalink, click on your post name, then copy and paste the address showing in the address bar, into the “url” box when you link up.

You’ll need to include a link in your post back to the party to link up and participate. That’s so visitors to your blog will be able to find the party and the other Tablescape Thursday participants. Requiring a link back also prevents businesses and scammers from linking up to sell their products. (Yup, that really happens, unfortunately.)

Pssst: InLinkz has upgraded to a new system for linking up for blog parties. If you have any trouble linking up today, please check to make sure you’re using the most current version of your browser.

If you are using the most current version but are still having a problem linking up, please let me know so I can report it to InLinkz. Thanks for your patience as we all adjust to the new InLinkz system.

  1. Ohhhh, love those placemats. Great table settings.

  2. Patti Lapp says

I am in awe of the beautiful table and totally amazed by the menu. I was lucky I got the corned beef done!

  3. Susan, thank you so much for hosting a party devoted to tablescapes each week. I can only imagine what you must do behind the scenes to provide your fellow tablescapers with a venue for sharing some really incredible designs. And I admire that you generously spotlight someone else’s work like Agnes’. I don’t thank you often enough. 🙂

  4. So appropriate for St. Patty’s Day! Particularly love, love the cabbage leaf place mats. -Brenda-

  5. Agnes’ table is lovely! I’m always envious of a long farm table. Wish I had space for one. I do have the cabbage leaf dishes, and love using them spring and summer. They are so fresh. Also have the pewter chargers and white plates, so tell Agnes that she has inspired me to set a similar table here. Thanks, Susan and Agnes! Happy Spring!

  6. That must have been such a gathering! The menu sounds delicious, especially the dessert and coffee. Love the mix of pewter with the green dishes, all set off by the white plates. The dinner surely is still the talk of the town 😉

  7. Dawne Marie says

A beautiful table! Love all the green. And the “Mc” guest list! The cabbage leaf dishes are so cute. And the placemats. The table is very inviting. I would have loved to be a guest! Thanks So much for sharing. And Thank You Agnes!

  8. Love it all! I really like how Agnes offset the cabbage placemats – that’s a very effective look, and the table/chairs looks terrific with the tablescape. TOo funny with all those Irish surnames.
In an email with my new vertical neighbors, I found several of them enjoy entertaining, one is a great chef, and most enjoy sipping a nice glass of wine. I’m really looking forward to setting my tables again in my new home!

  9. Thanks to you and Agnes for sharing her table-scape. I love it and I would have fit right in with that list of guests, lol. 😀 The combo of the green plates with the pewter accents is so pretty. And the cabbage leaf place-mats! I’ve never seen those before. But Agnes’ beautiful table and chairs would look lovely with any table setting. I love that it can seat so many. I bet they had a ball.

  10. Linda Nixon says

If I didn’t know better I would think Agnes had borrowed my kitchen table and chairs. Our ,more than 100 years old, gr. grandparents table was too long for my kitchen so my husband built a farm table exactly as the one Agnes has. Her chairs are exactly like mine, Tell City. Mine are maple and look lighter than hers although it may be the picture making them darker. I had looked everywhere for the French country chairs and while in a Habitat thrift store there they were along with a 66 inch trestle table with two leaves. I had the farm table so we stored the trestle table and are using the farm table like Agnes. My daughter was born on St. Patrick’s day and our Nixon heritage is Scot Irish. Nice to see others have a similar like. I have a Shamrock my husband brought to the hospital when our daughter was born 53 years ago.Shamrock is Hard to find this year due to bad weather in Fl.

  11. At first just viewing the place setting it seemed to not have any color (except green, of course!), but when you step back and see the whole table….WOW it is beautiful. I like the cabbage placemats and the dinner menu sounded yummy and fun. Pretty sure all the Mc’s enjoyed themselves!

  12. This table is just lovely! My husband’s birthday is on St. Patrick’s Day, so this special day is big around here. I love the Lenox Pantry dishes. I have the Gourmet and am going to use them tomorrow in a dinner for my supper club. I should do a St. P’s. Day table, but I’m going with white and pink and gold. I may send you pictures of that, Susan. Agnes’ cabbage leaf placemats are fabulous! It’s all put together wonderfully!

  13. I was excited to find a Tablescape linky- and such a long-running one!

  14. I have the most current version of Google Chrome, but was unable to use LinkyZ. I had to go to Safari to Link. What a gorgeous green table! Thanks for sharing it with ut.
