Jackie’s Beautiful Home Decorated for Christmas & Her Putz House Collection

A few months back I shared some photos of Jackie’s beautiful home decorated for Halloween. If you missed that post, you’ll find it here: Decorate for Halloween.

Today Jackie has invited us back for a little Christmas home tour. Sadly all the Christmas home tours in my area were canceled this year. I hope they will be back again next year since I truly missed them. Thanks so much to Jackie for giving us a peek into how she decorated for Christmas this year!

The entrance into Jackie’s living room looks very different from how she decorated for Halloween, doesn’t it? What a beautiful entry and entrance into Jackie’s family room!

Though Jackie wasn’t able to host a holiday party this year as she normally would, she made sure to decorate as usual for her family to enjoy. I think more than ever we all needed our Christmas decorations this year.

In decorating her home this year, Jackie said she used 31 garlands, 25 wreaths, 4 large Christmas trees, and “too many countertop trees to count.”

Jackie added pretty garland to the headboard of her bed here in the master bedroom. Jackie shared, “The Master bedroom is a Croscill Comforter Set from Bed Bath and Beyond. I added some more European Shams to it from Amazon.” (You’ll find Jackie’s beautiful comforter here: Elegant Comforter.” The gold shams are available here: Gold Shams.)

Sooo pretty lit up at night!

The armoire also saw a bit of holiday cheer.

Love the lit garland atop this mirror!

Love how Jackie decorated her 4-poster bed in the guest room! Jackie said, “The garland and lights around the guest room bed are from Michaels.  I saw a similar look on Pinterest one year and had to re-create it.”

“The lights are set to go on at 6 pm and stay on for 6 hours. When guests stay in the room they say they feel like they are sleeping in a winter wonderland under the stars.”

I love, love, love this wonderful display of tiny houses! These adorable houses are called Putz houses. Have you ever heard of them? I had not but their name comes from the German word, Putzen. Putzen means to clean or decorate. Jackie shared that these little houses were placed around a nativity scene as a Christmas decoration in the early 1900s.

Jackie said, “The little Putz houses were bought last year. My Grandmother had some at her home when I was a little girl and I always admired them. My Mom actually still had them and gave them to me and I added them to the collection I made last year. You can find the authentic ones on eBay.

What a lovely collection to inherit or pass down through the family!

Thanks so much to Jackie for giving us a tour of her Christmas decor this year! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas! I’m looking forward to the new year!

  1. The Putz houses brought back a memory! I can’t quite remember what happened to them, but I now do remember having/seeing some at our house growing up. The roofs were like colored sandpaper and they had the trees glued in front. Beautiful decorations, Jackie!

Thank you Kathleen. The houses are very interesting – you are right the roofs are like sandpaper. If you Google it online – some people have huge collections! I read that there is even a Convention for Christmas Collectables from the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s. Hmm wonder if I could convince my husband to attend that with me 🙂 Hope you had a wonderful Christmas and a Nice New Year. – Jackie

Thank you so much for sharing Jackie’s Beautifully Christmas decorated home. Truly amazing!

    • Jackie Allen says

Thank you Yvonne – After New Year’s is when all the fun begins – taking everything down and cleaning up all the dust! It is funny, I usually end up purchasing an new piece of furniture to add to the house because it looks so empty after Christmas. Happy New Year! – Jackie

  3. The Putz houses are so adorable and what a great story behind them.

  4. Love seeing Jackie’s decorations! One of our favorite traditions since we first married is going on the Christmas Tour of ( historic) homes in our city. Of course that was canceled this yr.

  5. Susan, thank you, and thank you Jackie, for this post. I think I’ve finally found our next master bedroom comforter and drapery set! We have a king sleigh bed, very much like Jackie’s, but in a dark cherry, dressed currently in Croscill’s Cotswold — an old favorite but, unfortunately, well, old.
I love Croscill, Julius is a beautiful design (with draperies to match — yay!) and the colors are perfect.
Once I finish my current project of reorganizing the guest closet, I’ll treat myself and hubs to a master makeover. Delayed gratification.
Thanks again, Susan, for this wonderful “Christmas gift,” and I hope you had a safe and happy holiday.

      Wonderful Marlene,
Your Master Bedroom is going to be beautiful. I love all of Croscill’s merchandise. It makes you feel like royalty.
      Happy New Year!

  6. Another wonderful glimpse into Jackie’s beautiful home! I love that idea for the guest bed – I’m definitely going to try that out on our own bed until we can have overnight guests again! 🙂 Thanks again to both of you for sharing!

  7. Susan and Jackie, thanks for sharing these wonderful photos. I would love to have seen even more! Jackie, if you see this, would you please tell me how you hung the bell decorations on the inner side of your front door? Maybe there is something on the door that lends itself to hanging. But if you had to use a hanger, what type did you use? I would love to know how to hang things with something other than those 3m command strips. Those have proved a disaster! Thanks. And Happy New Year to you all.

    • Jackie Allen says

      Hello Pam,
I had a difficult time with my Command strips too this year! They always worked for me in the past but something was wrong with this years shipment. On the door I used the suction cups with the little hanger on it. I had them on hand from some sun catchers I used to have up. Happy New Year!

      • Ah, okay. Thanks, Jackie. I tried using a command strip years ago and had bad results. I finally got brave and tried one again a couple of years later. Terrible! Both times they stripped the top layer off my drywall! What a mess. I hate those things. Thanks for the suction cup idea. 🙂

What a wonderful tour of Jackie’s beautifully decorated home! I’d love to see more like the kitchen, etc.
Did I miss you doing a Christmas tour of Marie’s home this year?

  9. Franki Parde says

BRAVO to you for keeping the “spirit” even under imperfect circumstances! It looks marvelous & feel certain you got enjoyment..that is what it’s about! franki

  10. Oh I just love seeing everyones homes decorated! So many great ideas. It never occurred to me to put garland on my headboard. I have several beds where it will love fabulous. Now I can’t wait until next year! 🙂

Thanks so much for all the sharing and posting. 🙂

      Hi Ali,
I loved it so much too – I was thinking of maybe draping a eucalyptus or floral swag up there when I take it down.
      Happy New Year!
      -Jackie

  11. I have an Ohio friend that was always “putzing around.” I never knew what she meant until now. And she was always cleaning, not decorating so much. When I was in college I had little cardboard houses that was my only Christmas decoration on my chest. They became popular again I think last year maybe. I’m pretty sure they were not the same little houses shown here but I surely wish I had them now.

    • Jackie Allen says

      Hi Linda,
I know what you mean – I wish I had a lot of the nostalgic stuff I had gowning up now too. It brings back so many fond memories.
      Happy New Year!
      -Jackie

  12. I love seeing all these pretty rooms! If my children are able to visit next year (I hope!) I may borrow the garland on the headboards idea. Merry Christmas to both Jackie and Susan, as well as to my fellow readers. Stay safe and well!
