Beach Home on Tybee Island With A Fabulous Screened Porch

Grab your bathing suit, sunscreen and straw hat, we’re headed off to the beach for the weekend!

Ever been to Tybee Island? Tybee Island is an island located just off the coast of Savannah, Georgia. I’ve been there a few times over the years while vacationing in Savannah. You can’t go to Savannah without driving over and having breakfast at The Breakfast Club.

There are some absolutely stunning homes on Tybee Island including this beautiful home with breathtaking ocean views and a to-die-for-screened-porch! This is a beach-side view and what a fabulous porch from which to take in the views! We’ll be checking out those views in this post, including those from the 3rd floor balcony.

There’s a pretty, rocking-chair-porch across the front of the home, too.

Imagine sitting here in the evenings, talking in front the fire after a day spent on the beach. I see a library through the door beyond. Let’s go check it out.

Great place to spend the evening or a rainy day curled up with a good book.

The only thing I’d change in this room is to add a large seagrass, sisal or jute rug under this seating group. What do you think, would you add a rug or do you like it this way? I have noticed rugs tend to make spaces feel smaller sometimes but I do love how they anchor a seating area.

There’s a cozy bay area for dining.

Imagine having your breakfast here each morning surrounded by ocean views. Yep, this would work! 🙂

Love the Lazy Susan in the center of the table.

The kitchen is huge! I like how it’s open to the family room but is still its own separate space. Love the floors in this house!

Okay, help me find the refrigerator. Do you think that’s it behind the doors on the right? I always love a hidden refrigerator and if that’s the refrigerator, they did an awesome job of camouflaging it!

Love all the counter space and the separate prep sink.

See the French door just beyond the eat-in island? Guess what’s hiding behind that door.

An elevator! No hauling the groceries up stairs to the kitchen.

The kitchen also has wonderful views of the ocean and beach. Umm, wonder if that’s a dishwasher just to the right and maybe the trash bin and trash compactor behind the other pull down panel doors. Love how everything is hidden away!

There’s plenty of storage for wine.

As beautiful as the home is, this is where I’d be spending most of my time, outside on this screened porch.

The screening is so sheer, I didn’t even realize it was a screened porch at first. Is that view not amazing?!

This is the picture that let me know it’s a screened porch. So nice to enjoy sea breezes without the mosquitoes. Love the flooring on this porch! It’s completely bug free, too…no gaps! Update: The virtual tour at the website for this home (linked at the end of this post) indicates the screens are retractable. What a neat feature!

  1. WOW! What an amazing home. Love the views.

  2. Isn’t that one just about “perfect!” In summer at tyhe lake we “pull all the area rugs” so it is just wood floors and in the winter months…out come the rugs to…just “warm it up a bit.” We LOVE our GE Profile integrated fridg!! Great post!! franki

  3. Beautiful home. I agree with you – definitely a rug. I think rugs add a “homey and comfy” feeling to a home with hardwood floors.

  4. Susan, This house is incredible. I would also like to see rugs anchoring the furniture arrangement. When rooms are really large I like it when there are two rugs with furniture. Speaking of two, I think the kitchen has two of everything except for the stove. The knobs on the cabinets closest to the larger sink are all in the middle. My guess is a trash pullout and two dishwashers. You can see two sinks, ovens & wine coolers. In the picture that you thought had the refrigerator, I think there might be two with pullout freezer drawers. I think the kitchen is beautiful but I would spend a lot of time wandering around trying to figure out where I had put things.

    • Iris, I think you’re right. I just watched the virtual tour at the website and it mentioned two dishwashers. I think the two washers are probably on either side section with the doors that are below the larger sink. The pull down door on the end of that area looks more narrow, so I thought it might trash compactor. Yeah, I think those are probably pull out freezer drawers, too. I just love how everything is hidden and all you see is pretty cabinetry. I’m not a big fan of stainless so I really like seeing the cabinets instead.

Lovely! The views are wonderful. The price seems reasonable, too. I loved the little concrete pig snuffling around at the pavered walk-way. 🙂

Oh, how I enjoyed this post! I took the virtual tour! I love Tybee Island. My son is a meteorologist in Savannah. He is visiting us here in NC right now. He lives on one of the barrier islands. I had to show him your post. He said he knows exactly where the property is. I told him he could buy it for his dad and me. LOL! Well, it doesn’t hurt to dream. Thanks for the post. Love your blog. Inspiring.

  7. Yes…there should be a rug under the seating. Love the area. We had a house at Hilton Head for years…but sold a few years ago. Noseeums…those things are nasty.
    Want that screened porch!
The view is worth a few million! 🙂
    Let’s go!

  8. It looks like the screens go up into the top. There is a track looking thing. I don’t think they are down in all of the photos, that is why it doesn’t seem to be screened in the first photos. When down, it looks like the screens just go down to the hand rail. Seems they are to tone down the sun rather than for insect control. Just what it looks like to me.

  9. Sign me up! What a beautiful place. I was on Tybee back in January. Beautiful place. Wish I could have seen this home.

  10. What a beautiful home. I am with you, I would add sisal or jute rugs. I would choose wood chairs around the breakfast table, too. Lovely, just lovely. I am of the camp that likes to rent a home on the beach instead of own, too much maintenance on those beach houses! I can sure appreciate this home, though!

  11. I love the master bedroom – the sun would be my alarm clock. The kitchen is wonderful. I think this may be one of the best of the houses you have shown us. We could have a blog party on the veranda. 🙂

  12. I adore Tybee Island! Hubby and I go as often as we can. While normally I would say yes to a rug, I wouldn’t in a beach house. It seems no matter how hard we try not to track in sand, it comes along anyway! So I imagine rugs would make it harder to clean.
I had not seen this particular house and it is lovely. The layout of the rooms, the screen porch, and a killer view are big wins here, but the yellow tones on the wall just seem wrong to me. I love the cool blues and greens when I’m at the beach. Outdoors you’re surrounded by sun, so it’s always nice to retreat to a cooler space when you’re done outside.

  13. We love Tybee Island….while visiting Savannah, we stayed in a condo right on the beach and had this same view from the Island…we stayed right next to the lighthouse….the Island only has one hotel, so staying in a condo is the way to go and it’s fabulous! So historical there and so very laid back.
What a beautiful home you have posted too!

  14. My husband is from Savannah so we have spent many perfect summer days at Tybee. My sis in law owns a house that is part of old Fort Screven. It is just behind the light house. However now that we take our grands to Tybee we have stayed in some of the nicer rental homes. You mentioned rugs on the floor. I think SAND is one reason the rental homes do not have many rugs. There is no getting away from it at the beach..every time I think I have swept it all up, there is more. 🙂

  15. You can find me on the daybed swing with a cold glass of sweet tea on a warm summer night

  16. Marlene Stephenson says

I just need a comfy chair,i can sleep in it ,go for long walks eat sandwiches, just pretty much everything, people can come and see me if they want but don’t expect too much, cause i’m on vac. I am retired,so now you can see why it is easy for me to do nothing,if i went to the beach.I love this house but, actually its more than i want to take care of.

  17. What a beautiful home on Tybee Island. We will be there next week, and will “drive by” on my bicycle. Susan, we should all chip in and buy it for blog get togethers.

  18. Sounds like a plan! 🙂

  19. My husband and I had the wonderful opportunity to stay in a lovely bed and breakfast on Tybee Island a few years ago. We can’t wait to go back. Memories were made there that we will never forget. Thanks for sharing.

  20. Luv the home and everything about it!!
As for an area rug I would definitely use one in that particular room but would go for a colorful one over a sisal etc.

Thanks so much for posting this!!
    🙂

Absolutely beautiful. Where can I locate the rental information on this property? My husband and I have been to Tybee often, but have never seen this home! Please???
