My Favorite Products for the Best Shiny & Clean “Afters”

Welcome to the 632nd Metamorphosis Monday, a blog party sharing fabulous Before and Afters!

Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve received several emails from BNOTP readers asking about the various cleaning products I use and have mentioned loving in previous posts. Since it’s almost time for some serious spring cleaning, for this week’s Met Monday I’m sharing all the products I love and use in my home. These are my absolute favorites, the ones I use every day and that always meet my high expectations. Hope you find this post helpful for your cleaning needs!

NOTE: Click the title of any product below for more information and to access the product where I always purchase it.

The Original Bee’s Wax

This is the furniture polish I’ve been using now for many years. I discovered it a few years back while out antiquing. The antique shop owners raved about it and said it was the only thing they used on all their antique furniture.

I’m really picky about what I put on my furniture and I’ve been very pleased with this polish. It leaves my wood furniture (old and new) looking beautiful and I really like that there’s no issue of wax buildup. You’ll find it here where you can also check out the awesome reviews: The Original Bee’s Wax.

Stainless Steel Cleaner

This is my absolute favorite cleaner for stainless steel. I don’t have stainless appliances in my kitchen, but I used to have a stainless steel grill and it worked great on it and made it look brand new. I also use it on a large, floor standing, stainless steel tool chest in my garage. That’s when I first discovered this cleaner–when I was looking for something to clean all the fingerprints off the chest. It was driving me crazy since the chest is the first thing I see each time I pull into the garage.

You can see how it worked on my tool chest in this previous post: How to Clean Fingerprints Off Stainless Steel & Leave a Lustrous Shine. Definitely, an awesome product if you have stainless steel appliances. You’ll find it available here: Stainless Steel Cleaner.

The Laundress Delicate Wash

I wash almost all my shirts, sweaters, dresses, etc… by hand. This is the product I use for the items I wash by hand (excluding wool & cashmere) and it works beautifully! Recently I used it to wash two Hermes silk twilly scarves I purchased on eBay. Unfortunately, the seller had not revealed in the listing that the twillies were dirty and stained.

They came out looking brand new after soaking for a few minutes in this Laundress Delicate wash. Definitely will never be without a bottle–love it! It’s available here: The Laundress Delicate Wash.

The Laundress Wool & Cashmere Shampoo

I really dislike the way clothes look after they’ve been dry cleaned. I haven’t been to a dry cleaner in many, many years. For all my wool/cashmere sweaters, I wash them with The Laundress wool and cashmere shampoo. Love how they turn out! You’ll find this wool and cashmere shampoo available here: The Laundress Wool & Cashmere Shampoo.

ColorCatcher

Color Catchers saved a favorite shirt of mine from ruin. I thought I was going to have to throw it out, but amazingly it removed all the color bleed! You can see how it worked in this previous post: How Shout Color Catcher Saved My Favorite Shirt.

After that experience, I was in awe of this product! I don’t know how it works, but I use it religiously now when washing clothes that I fear may bleed or run, even when washing them by hand. Amazing stuff! It’s available here: ColorCatcher.

Eye-Vac Vacuum Cleaner

I still love my Eye-Vac Vacuum! I use it for sweeping my kitchen and screened porch floor when I don’t want to take the time to pull out my vacuum. I keep mine connected in my kitchen full-time since that’s the room I most often need to sweep. I’ve been thinking about buying a second one for the upstairs since I use this one so much downstairs. If there are certain rooms in your home (like the kitchen) that you prefer to sweep often in between regular vacuuming, you’ll find this vacuum here: Eye-Vac Vacuum Cleaner

Mopnado

The other product I use and love for keeping my floors clean is this guy. I really dislike handling or squeezing out a disgusting, yucky mop. Plus, with my old mop, I never really felt like I was getting the floor completely clean.

The Mopnado is pretty awesome! I primarily use it for moping the flooring in my kitchen, laundry room and screened porch. It definitely makes the job go much faster and easier. You can read more about it where I purchased mine here: Mopnado.

Mopnado Mopping System

Disposable Toilet Cleaning System.

Does anyone else use this for cleaning the bathroom? I love this product so much, I have one in each of my three bathrooms. I used to absolutely hate using a regular toilet brush scrubber because then I had to store that nasty thing back away. With this, you just pop on a cleaning sponge, clean away, then press a button to dispose of the sponge right into the trash. All you have left to store is the nice, clean handle. So much better! Whoever thought of this product is a genius! You’ll find it here: Disposable Toilet Cleaning System.

Magic Eraser.

I think everyone has probably heard about the Magic Eraser by now. I love these! Not only do they get marks off walls, but I’ve also used them on white cabinetry and painted doors with great success. You just need to go slowly since they are super effective. I always keep these on hand, they are amazing! You’ll find them here: Magic Eraser.Magic Eraser

Microfiber Cleaning Cloths

I just mentioned these in a post recently. With pollen season around the corner, I will be using them a lot in the coming days. In the past, when I wiped down the furniture on my screened porch, it would take many trips back and forth to the sink to rinse out the rag I was using. Or, I had to take a big bucket of water out onto the porch to rinse the rag in.

I don’t know how these cloths do it, but they hold a ton of water. Now I just wet 5-6 of them and head out to the porch and wipe down everything in one trip. I also use these in my kitchen for wiping down the counters and other surfaces. You’ll find them here: Cleaning Cloths.

Silver Polish

My absolute favorite silver polish and the only one I use for polishing silverplate or my sterling silver flatware is Hagerty. I’ve been using their products exclusively since I discovered Hagerty is the only polish a very well-respected silver shop in Atlanta uses. They highly recommended it to me and I love how well it works. I use their regular silver polish found here: Silver Polish.

Spray Silver Polish

I also love their spray silver polish–it’s probably the one I use the most. I love how it gets down into the grooves and designs in ornate silver pieces that are hard to reach with regular silver polish. You’ll find the spray silver polish available here: Spray Silver Polish.

Tip: Always wear a mask when using the spray polish, just to be safe. I always wear a mask when using any spray products.

Silver Jewelry Cleaner

Hagerty also makes a cleaner for silver jewelry available here: Silver Jewelry Cleaner. I’ve never used it but since I trust and like their other products, I’m going to order some to try.

Silver Jewelry Storage Keeper

Once your jewelry is clean, this is the best method I’ve found for storing silver jewelry to keep it from tarnishing and needing repeated polishing. I have this jewelry storage system and love it! Since I’ve started keeping my jewelry in this silver jewelry keeper, my silver jewelry has stayed beautifully shiny and clean.  You’ll find it available here: Silver Jewelry Storage Keeper.

Weiman Stove Top Cleaner

This is the product I use to clean my smooth cooktop. I spray it on, let it stay on for a few minutes, then wipe it off. It works really well! You’ll find it here: Weiman Stove Top Cleaner.

Granite Cleaner

I’ve been using this granite cleaner for years in my kitchen and it works great. I also like their “polish” product. Find it here: Granite Cleaner

Goo Gone

Goo Gone is great for removing sticky residue left behind after removing a price sticker or label from a plate or a glass container. It’s about the only thing I’ve found that will get rid of it without tons of scrubbing. Definitely a must to keep on hand for those impossible to remove stickers. You’ll find it here: Goo Gone.

Weiman Leather Wipes

Love these for how well they work and how convenient they are to use. I’ve used them to clean stains from leather shoes and I regularly use them on my nicest handbags to clean away any smudges, especially on the corners of the bags. ! Here are two posts where I’ve shared how well they work: How I Almost Ruined my L.L. Bean Boots AND How I Remove Dirt & Scuff Marks from the Corners of My Leather Handbags and Boots.

Very pleased with how well these leather wipes work! You’ll find them here: Weiman Leather Wipes.

Vacuum

A while back a BNOTP reader emailed to ask what vacuum I use in my home. I really like this vacuum because of two main features: It uses disposable bags so there’s no disgusting canister to empty AND the electrical cord rewinds at the press of a little pedal. I really dislike having to empty a canister and seeing the yucky stuff I just vacuumed up! Arggg. Plus, I can’t stand wasting time winding up a cord every time I vacuum. So this vacuum does a great job and meets those other two criteria. Also, it moves from carpet to hardwood flooring very easily.

I liked this vacuum so much, I purchased two—one for the main level and one for the upstairs. I love not having to haul the vacuum up and down the stairs and feel it’s much safer, as well. You’ll find this vacuum available here: Vacuum.

Weiman Wood Floor Cleaner

Occasionally I will mop my hardwood flooring with a lightly damp mop. Usually, I’ll just use water, but every now and then I will use this Weiman product if I feel the water isn’t enough. It does a great job! It’s available here: Weiman Wood Floor Cleaner.

Mill Creek Shampoo

This is my absolute favorite shampoo…been using it for years. I love how gentle it is on color-treated hair. You’ll find it here: Mill Creek Shampoo.

Super Cleaner

This super cleaner is one I never, ever let myself run out of. It works so well on so many surfaces. And it cuts through the dirt/grime faster than anything I’ve ever tried. It truly is a “super” cleaner!

It also works great on denim transfer stains. You can see how it worked to get denim transfer off the white chair in my home office in this previous post: My Absolute Favorite Cleaner for Removing Denim Transfer Stains.

I’ve also used it to clean the leather seats in my car and mildew off the paint on my screened porch. It will clean just about anything as you can see in the description and reviews here: Super Cleaner.

Super Cleaner for Leather Seats Upholstery and Carpet, Works for Denim Transfer

Cleaning Vinegar

This is the time of year I mainly use this product. It works awesome for cleaning the warm-mist humidifiers that I keep running in my office during the day and in my bedroom at night. It cuts through the mineral buildup much faster than regular vinegar. You’ll find it available here: Cleaning Vinegar.

My Favorite Kitchen Trash Bag

These are the absolute best trash bags I have ever used. If they ever quit making them, I will cry! Seriously! They are so easy to fit over the top of a 13-Gallon Trash can and are super easy to tie off when full. My daughter-in-law has a really nice SimpleHuman, stainless steel trash can that can be a pain to fit a bag over and to remove. These completely solved that issue and they are the only bags she buys now.

I also love that you get a bunch when you order them (I always order the 270-count) and they seemingly last forever. Definitely the best trash bags I’ve ever used in my kitchen! Check out the 3,657 awesome reviews here: 13-Gallon Size Trash Bags.

Stainless Trash Bin, Great for Kitchen

In case you are in need of a new trash bin, this is the one my daughter-in-law has and I love it! It holds a ton, is so well made and works beautifully. You’ll find it here: Stainless Trash Bin.

  1. Thank you so much for another wonderful party, and I hope you have a great week!

  2. I can’t get the Laundress wool and cashmere product here in Mexico but use baby shampoo to wash all my cashmere. It works perfectly. No wool for me other than the Escada 100% cashmere blazer I got at a resale shop for a song. No wool for me in my climate.

Your recommendations are always spot on! I’ve had that same Panasonic vacuum for years and totally agree about bagless and the washable filters? Yuck! I think we may keep Therapy SS cleaner in business. I tried on your recommendation, and now I’ve got many friend and family using it. In going to save this post#

  4. Thanks for the product recommendations, I hate to clean so having good stuff really helps!

  5. thanks for all the great product reviews Susan. Hope you have a great week!

  6. Thanks for all the great recommendations Susan. I share a lot of your favorites, and want to try the other ones! 🙂 Spring cleaning is due here too! Happy Monday, and thanks so much as always for hosting this excellent party!

  7. Thanks for all the good tips – I bought the Beeswax at a little shop near my home when the staff highly recommended it. I love it ! Can’t wait to try some of these other products!

  8. The vacuum is currently out of stock at most businesses. Panasonic says it is still being manufactured in China but is in short supply. I found one in Denver online (not sure about shipping, though). Mine finally bit the dust (pun intended). However, most rug dealers eschew the use of a rotating vacuum beater on any oriental or hand knotted area carpet. So, not sure this is the correct appliance for me (that’s all we have – no wall-to-wall carpet).

  9. I truly appreciate you hosting each week! I understand how much time it takes to do so!! Thank you!!
    Stay safe, healthy and happy!!
    Hugs,
    Debbie

  10. Cyndi Raines says

So many great tips! I am still using the biotin shampoo you recommended and agree that it’s really good stuff. Now that we have leather seats in our vehicle again, I will have to purchase the Weiman wipes. So for your car seats, you use the car guys cleaner first on your car seats and then the Weiman wipes or do you switch off between them? Thanks Susan.

    • Thanks, Cyndi…glad to know the shampoo is working so well for you…that’s awesome!
I haven’t tried the Weiman Wipes on my car seats, I don’t think. I mainly have just used it on handbags, my L.L. Bean boots and on my leather Sperry Topsiders. It has been great at getting stains out of those when I’ve gotten something on them.
The only reason I used the Super Cleaner on the driver’s leather seat in my car was because my denim jeans transferred the dark blue dye to the leather when they were fairly new and regular leather cleaner would not remove it. I saw in the reviews where a lot of people used it on their leather seats to clean them and it worked, so I gave it try and it did work to get the denim transfer off my leather seat, too. I wouldn’t use it regularly on leather seats since it’s a strong cleaner and would probably be a bit too rough for regular use, but if you ever have an issue as I did, it definitely worked to remove the dye off of the driver’s side seat. I use it for so many things, it’s just amazing how well it cleans.
As for your leather seats, there are quite a few great leather conditioning products that I’ve heard about, but those were mainly recommendations for leather handbags. I’m tempted to buy some of this leather honey I’ve seen online for my car seats, to condition them now that I have the dye off. It has over 24,000 reviews and they look good!
      https://amzn.to/3cePH6n
I’ve heard good things about Cadillac Leather conditioner as well, but haven’t used it on car seats. You can see it here: https://amzn.to/2PMio33 .

If you find something or try one of those and love, please let me know. I hope to trade my car in and buy a new or newer car this summer so would like to get my seats looking their best before then.

      • Cyndi Raines says

Thanks Susan. I’ll let you know for sure. Best wished in your up-coming adventure of hunting for a new or new to you vehicle. We just purchased a new to us vehicle in January and are pleased. We had our other vehicle for 14 years and oh my, the changes in these newer models.

  11. Thanks for the “Susan approved products” and taking the work out for us. I looked at the air fryer you have in WalMart. For the life of me I could not open the doors. Is there a button (or maybe the display glued shut) ?

    • You mean the two drawers, right? They should pull right out. There’s no button to press or anything. On mine, you just pull on the handles and they come right out. I wonder if they had the drawers taped down. That is so strange that it wouldn’t open. Next time you are in there, check to see if they have them taped somehow. They should pull out very easily.

  12. Thanks for the tips. I’m going to try the toilet bowl cleaner, for sure. I have many of your other recommendations already. I was reading old posts and saw the one where you took a survey and said you love blueberries so much you put them on peanut butter instead of jelly. I tried it and I love it! Yum!

  13. Thanks for the party Susan and all the cleaning recommendations. You are always a plethora of information. I love it! Have a great day. XO- MaryJo

  14. So many fun links to dive into this week. I appreciate you sharing all your favorite cleaning supplies. I need several of them! Thanks so much for hosting. I hope your week is a special one, CoCo
