An Outdoor Space Designed for Dining and Relaxing by the Fire

Welcome to the 375th Metamorphosis Monday!

Thanks so much for all your well wishes on Friday. Sunday was the big turning point. I awoke on Sunday still feeling pretty rough, but about midway through the day I began feeling much better. From your comments, it sounds like there’s some kind of bug going around. Thanks again for your kind words on Friday, they really helped!

For this week’s Met Monday, I had to share this wonderful backyard makeover I discovered recently. Julianne Hough (you may remember her from Dancing With the Stars) teamed up with Joss and Main to create a the perfect backyard oasis for relaxing and entertaining. My jaw dropped when I saw all the beautiful spaces.

There’s a comfy area for sitting and snuggling with friends, including the furry kind.

Julianne was going for an earthy, natural look but also wanted her outdoor “rooms” to have a fresh, modern vibe.

This is one of my favorite “rooms” in her garden. I love the hanging lanterns because they make this dining area feel like a real “room” in her garden.

You get a good feel for where each area is in this photo below. Julianne’s outdoor “living room” is just outside the her home under a sheltered porch area. The “dining room” is a bit further away, but see that area off to the left? It’s one of the best parts of this transformation!

Many of the items Julianne used in her table setting are available at Joss and Main here: Joss and Main: Julianne Hough Outdoor Retreat

Remember that area off to the left? Is this not amazing! I love the brick and the big mirror. Notice how the mirror reflects the beautiful trees. I”m guessing they make special glass for mirrors that are used outdoors. It’s those type features that give this area a “room” feel.

I picture dinner parties where after dinner, guests move over to this beautiful seating area to relax in front of a crackling fire. In summer when it’s hot, candles would be wonderful burning inside the fireplace in place of a real fire.

  1. What a setup for outside entertaining! Love it! So glad you are feeling better, Susan.

  2. Susan, so glad you’re feeling better. I was sick Easter weekend. It really stops you in your tracks when illness strikes, and made me empathize for those who live with chronic illness.
I love outdoor spaces. I think that’s why my sunroom is my favorite room in my house, and this is my favorite season. Thanks for hosting us and letting us share. Have a great week!

  3. Wow that is some attractive outdoor furniture. I love that fireplace- it’s really sharp. The dining area is wonderful with the pergola and lanterns. I’m glad you are feeling better. These bugs that attack in the late winter/early spring can be the worst.

  4. Susan, what great ideas in this post. I really need to do some outdoor decorating and these spaces are the perfect inspiration. Sorry to read that you’ve been sick, but glad you are on the mend. Thank you for hosting.

  5. So glad you are feeling better! Thanks for hosting Metamorphosis Monday. I love starting my week by checking out all the links. Hope you continue getting stronger throughout the week.

  6. These outdoor spaces are incredible Susan, I will definitely hop over to Joss & Main to check everything out! Sorry about your illness, my husband and I both came down with bad colds right after Easter, I believe it’s called, grandchildren!! Glad you’re feeling better, thanks for the party, and Happy Monday

  7. Glad you are better–like one of your other readers I got sick the Sunday before Easter and felt bad for a week, missing Easter Sunday at church. Just quarantined myself and would let no one in until I was better and the house had been wiped down! You are right, something is going around-so I urge everyone to stay warm enough (I think I was trying to rush spring) and of course, eat right and get your rest. Stay well, dear friend.

  8. Susan, thanks for hosting, and I’m glad you’re feeling better! My husband and I both got the bug driving home from Florida a few weeks ago. Not fun! I love this outdoor space!

  9. Thanks so much for the party!!

  10. Glad you’re doing better Susan… I got the ‘bug’ and it wiped me out for over a week… nasty! But Spring and sun and open windows will help get rid of all those bad germs, right? 🙂 Happy week!

  11. So glad that you are feeling better! A bug has been circulating here but I have avoided it so far. Love that fireplace! Thanks for hosting! Hugs…Debbie

  20. Cyndi Raines says

So glad you are on the mend – take it slow and easy so you don’t have a set-back. Love her rooms, but the fireplace is incredible!

  21. So many blogging buddies have reported being sick. Hope it is not transmitted via BLOGS! A blog bug!! EEK!
Those outdoor rooms are out of my league.

  22. I need some of that cucumber water right now

  23. Becky Dodson says

Beautful! I’d love to know where she bought the handwoven roof on the pergola.

    • Becky, I don’t remember now if they mentioned that in the post where I found the pictures. You may want to check and see if that’s in there. It almost looks like those matchstick blinds you can buy.

I'd love to hear from you! Please leave a comment!
