Answering Your Questions & A Big 40% Off Summer Sale

Thanks so much for all the lovely comments you left on yesterday’s post sharing Mary Anne’s porch addition. She appreciated your sweet comment so much! A few of you were asking how Mary Anne’s new screened porch attaches to her home so she took some additional photos trying to capture that for you.

Mary Anne said, “Below is the front of a typical Saltbox style house, which I made a little bit atypical by adding a portico in front. They usually have plain flat fronts.  You’ll notice that the roofline of the house slopes in two directions – to the front and to the back. The front slope is seen here.”

Traditional Classic Home

This is a side view of Mary Anne’s home…you can just see the roof of the front porch on the left side of the picture and the new screened porch on the right side. The roofline slopes dramatically down toward the back. I love the huge deck and patio here on this side of the house.

Mary Anne said, “On a saltbox style house, the back slopes are always a lot longer than the front slopes. So, since the roofline of the house goes front to back, we had to make the roofline of the screened porch go side to side. You can see just a little bit of where they meet on the right at the bottom of the back slope of the house roof.”

Here’s a view from the other side of the porch.

This is how the porch looks from the back. Hope this answers the questions concerning how the porch is attached and how it meets the roof on the back of Mary Anne’s home. Thanks so much to Mary Anne for sharing these additional photos!
