Wedding Planning Ideas: Decorations, Centerpieces, Dresses, Venues, Flowers

Recently, the folks at Southern Living Magazine sent me a copy of their 2013 Southern Living Weddings Guide.  Around this time last year, my family was in serious wedding planning mode and I enjoyed all the wonderful pictures and stories included in last year’s book.  This year’s is just as wonderful and it’s filled with lots of detailed pictures of 25 “real southern weddings.”  One of my favorite parts is always the “Real Advice from the Bride” section.

Southern Living Weddings Giveaway

Are you in wedding planning mode in your family?  Southern Living is giving away two copies Southern Living Weddings here on BNOTP, so if you would be interested in having your own copy, leave a comment on this post.   Pssst:  Be sure when leaving a comment to enter in an e-mail address you regularly check so I’ll be able to notify the winners after the drawing.

Southern Living Weddings, 2013
Every kind of wedding venue is pictured in Southern Living Weddings from family farms to beautiful cathedrals to picturesque plantation homes.  The home pictured below is the Houmas House.  It’s surrounded with ancient live oaks draped in Spanish moss.

Wedding Venues

Imagine having your wedding on a bluff overlooking a beautiful river.

Wedding Venues

One of my favorite parts of the Southern Living Wedding publications is always the amazing decorations, receptions and beautiful table centerpieces.  Some centerpieces are grand…

Wedding Centerpieces

while others table decorations and centerpieces are sweet and more simply done.

Wedding Centerpieces

Is this not stunning?  The beautiful wedding centerpieces for this table were created using the bride’s family heirloom collection of silver vases and candelabras.

Wedding Centerpieces with Heirloom Silver

Another bride collected vintage china in different patterns from thrift stores and antique shops to use for her wedding reception.  I love that idea!

Vintage China for a Wedding Reception

I was drooling over all the beautiful wedding receptions.  Pink and white were the main colors for this reception.

Wedding Decorations

The wedding cakes are amazing!  I’m always in awe of the cakes pictured in Southern Living Weddings.

Wedding Cake Ideas

They are really beautiful works of art, aren’t they?  You would almost hate to cut into them.

Wedding Cake Ideas

Wedding dresses are as different as the brides who wear them.  I always love the full dresses that are over-the-top gorgeous.  It’s a special, once-in-a-lifetime occasion, a time to live out all those little girl dreams.

Beautiful Wedding Dress

This was one of my favorite wedding dresses pictured in this year’s book.  The bride nicknamed her Marchesa wedding gown, “the cloud dress.”  All the gorgeous layers of tulle really do give it that ethereal “floating in the clouds” look.

Beautiful Wedding Dress

There are so many different designs for the brides wedding bouquet.   Some are filled with bold color while others are soft and elegant.

Bridal Bouquet

Don’t forget lots of birdseed for showering the happy bride and groom.

  9. I plan weddings and parties. My most favorite ‘go to’ magazine is the Southern Living Weddings. They are always so beautiful and classic. Give me any color and I can design a wedding or event around it 🙂 My greatest joy is creating and designing a wedding or event that no one has ever seen before. I love coming up with creative ideas!! My best tip: pick an idea…a color…something that you / fiance love…and start from the very beginning with that idea and carry it thru your entire event starting with your invitation to your guests because that sets the ‘tone’.
    Happy wedding planning everyone!

The morning after the wedding mom is hosting a post wedding open house brunch for 40-60 guests at home. I’m a little stressed but know all will work out. 62. Oh My Goodness! I think we are all just drooling over the few photos you shared with us! What inspiration and ideas I could gather from this for my own daughter’s and my son’s weddings! Thanks for sharing!

  63. I love weddings. Yesterday I got my 30th order for wedding dress design and construction. Th wedding is in 2 months1 so I’ going to be really busy. I usually do all the flowers too but not this time. Love your blog!

  64. Don’t we all have SLiving in our DNA? It always feels slightly sinful to put old copies into the recycle bin. So many of us drop them at the library, where they then put them into recycle after the book sale. When my Texas grandmother died, it was a privilege to clean out that big farmhouse, and the neatly stacked SL mags were a stopping point. We had to look through them for a while. We all chuckled at the volume and order and were touched by this precious woman and the home she made for family and the generous welcome she gave to friends and strangers. She was a HOME-MAKER! I wish now that we’d held onto the really early issues. Love to have this book.

  65. Weddings done right are such celebrations of family , friends and love!
