Canning Peach Preserves and Some Exciting News!

Exciting News!

I have some exciting news!  True Value asked BNOTP to be a part of their DIY Squad this year! You know what that means…time to kick my DIY mojo in high gear!

I’m kicking off my first project with a detailed tutorial sharing the steps for making yummy Peach Preserves. Living in the peach state, I couldn’t resist putting up some fresh Georgia peaches while they are in season. My favorite part of canning or making jams or preserves is sharing them with friends and family. There’s just something truly wonderful about giving a gift you’ve made with your own hands, especially one that nourishes the body and the heart.

You’ll find all the scrumptious details, complete with lots of pictures over at True Value here: True Value Project: Canning Jams and Preserves. Did you do any canning this summer? Be sure and leave me a comment on my True Value post sharing your favorite canning ideas and tips!

Congrats, Susan! That is exciting news indeed. What fun. And those biscuits! Do you suppose if I leave right now I can get there by midnight and we could have some biscuits with YOUR fresh peach preserves? Oh my goodness, that looks so yummy. (You’ve made me so hungry … grrr!) I’ll go mosey over to the True Value Site and poke around. Yum.

Now I want biscuits and peach preserves. *Sigh*

    • Pam, come on…we’ll have ’em for breakfast! 🙂

Haha, I couldn’t wait! Made some peach cobbler. Still not as good as those biscuits though. 🙂 Hey, I checked out the True Value site. It looks good! You did a nice job with all the pictures and the directions for canning. They’re going to love having you blogging with them! Btw, someone in the comments asked about the quantity of peaches. Not sure you can alter what you’ve written already, but just fyi.

Seriously, I’m not a biscuit eater AT ALL but those biscuits of yours looked so good …. lol. I might just have to take up biscuit eating for the weekend. 😀 Have a good one, Susan!

  3. Congratulations and have fun!

Congratulations for being chosen by True Value. Your peach jam with biscuits looks so delicious. There isn’t anything as wonderful as receiving a homemade gift from a friend. It is also so nice to open the pantry and see a bunch of cute homemade jars in a row. You are a Georgia peach for sharing with us!

  7. Congrats! I know you will love this new challenge. Have a great weekend.

  8. Congratulations on your new endeavor. You appear to have boundless energy! Those Georgia peaches make this Northern gal drool and you’ve inspired me to consider “putting up” some preserves. Would you kindly share the name of the darling dishes upon which your more darling bisquits and peach preserves are sitting?

  9. Oh My Goodness! I can’t think of a better representative. I am so proud for you. Atta boys, kudos and everything else I can throw in there. I am just tickled.
I pray God’s riches blessing for you.

  10. OH YUM..is there anything better then a delicious summer peach..i think NOT.!!
……Congrats on the True Value gig!

  11. Your pictures and those great Georgia peaches are mouth-watering. My mom always canned lots of peaches and as a young girl my sister & brother helped to peel the peaches and of course they were from Georgia.
As always you make everything look so easy and yet so professional. Your pictures never disappoint as well as your explanations in your blog…we are never left hanging as to what you want us to know Susan.
    With joy and gratitude,

  12. I left a note over at True Value, but just wanted to say I was happy to see this – both the gig and the food. I made hot pepper jelly today. It is crazy good for a glaze for chicken and during the holidays over cream cheese.

Congratulations! Your site looks fabulous on True Value but then I would expect nothing less!! I am so happy for you and proud of you too!

  14. Mary from Virginia says

Congratulations on your new adventure! I’m excited to see all you will be teaching us in DIY projects! It will be fun to learn more about True Value. I will have to look to see where they are in my area.

I usually go to Pennsylvania in August to can with my college roommates. We have canned applesauce, grape juice and salsa for many years. Our kids even got in on the fun. My friend who always hosts has every canning tool there is. When I can at home I use the old fashioned Cold Pack Canner, but I am not canning meats or veggies; usually I am canning strawberry preserves. This pressure canner looks really nice and safe!

All this talk of food and peaches is making me hungry!

    Hope you are enjoying Haven.

  15. My step son is getting married in two weeks in Tybee Island (we are all from Ky). She is having a “Georgia” theamed wedding. I made 60 1/2 pint jars of peach preserves as favors! I picked the peaches at a local “you pick” farm. The preserves are wonderful! In addition to the 60 1/2 jars, I also made 5 pint jars for our personal use. Here is the kicker…..I had NEVER made any type of jam before!

Susan, thanks for sharing. I bookmarked the link page for the future. I have an abundance of tomatoes, so I have canned a few and will be canning more, plus I have some beets I may can if I don’t use them soon.

  17. Susan-TrueValue store is less than a mile from our house. We go there for everything from paint, mulch, hardware, decorations. Never even consider going to a big-box store, not with
the quality of T.V. and their great staff, which have been there “forever”. Congrats!!

  18. Congrats on the feature! That jam looks yummy!

  19. Jean from Lake Ariel says

Congratulations on being featured on True Value, your blog post there is lovely. I look forward to seeing more of you there.

  20. Lois from PA says

    Congrats Susan!
always wanted to learn but never did! BUT you changed that for me, going to our local orchards this month and give it a try!
    Thanks!

  21. Susan, congratulations! I’m clicking over to True Value right now!

  22. Susan, congratulations! True Value has chosen the perfect person to help! In all of my years, I have made preserves only twice. Once, I tried to get the pears off of my tree, before the squirrels got them. We made the preserves and the pears were still green! The other time, I made faux strawberry preserves with figs and they were fine. However, since I do not eat jams, jellies nor preserves, I just do not bother!! Your peach ones look yummy, though.

  23. Yummy! And this sounds like a lot of fun! Congratulations – I look forward to reading/seeing your projects! Have a great week,
    Kathy

  24. What? You made homemade biscuits and peach jam and you didn’t bring any to Haven??? Just kidding, Susan! I left you a comment over at True Value, too! (Psst! I posted a great photo of you on our blog!)

  25. My husband and I can tomatoes every summer. Nothing better than home canned organic tomatoes! I have always wanted to try jams but I wanted someone to can with that knew what they were doing .. so far, no luck .. until today! Your directions are perfect and with beautiful color pictures! I can’t wait to give it a try. We have all the canning tools and we love them. I can’t imagine not using a funnel, the magnetic lid grabber .. that water can be hot!, and the air bubble thing works great and I think better than a knife because the tool is plastic and has give. Your directions were so clear, I think I can do it 🙂 Thank you! And smart of True Value to pick you too! A double dose of BNOTP .. YEA 🙂

  26. Congratulations Susan! Looking forward to seeing all you do this year with True Value…
    Blessings,
    Cindy

  27. Hi Susan, Congratulations! I know you are going to have a ball with this new challenge. I look forward to making some peach jam next season… alas, missed this year for canning. After all, being born in Georgia what kind of “Georgia Peach” would I be if I didn’t do something with peaches?! LOL!
    Hugs,
    Beth P
