Welcome to the 336th Metamorphosis Monday!
Do you ever watch the HGTV show, Fixer Upper starring Joanna and Chip Gaines? Whenever I watch Fixer Upper, I’m always amazed by some of the houses they take on to renovate. The foundation can be slanting, the electrical can be a mess and they dive right in!
Their business, Magnolia Homes, has won several awards. Magnolia Homes is described as offering residential and commercial remodeling and design, as well as real estate services. They are also involved in several other adventures described at the Magnolia Homes website.
The only thing I can’t figure out is when do they sleep? Joanna mentioned in the episode I saw a few days ago, she often has a mouth full of ulcers from all the stress of having so many homes under renovation at one time. I didn’t realize it until that show, but the home you see them working on during a show is just one of many they have underway.
One of homes they worked on recently in Waco, Texas was nothing short of an amazing transformation. When they first began work, it looked like this. Pretty rough, huh?
Here’s how it looked once Joanna and Chip worked their magic, absolutely beautiful!
Here’s a picture of the Before and After, side by side. Don’t you just love seeing these beautiful old homes saved?
The entry is so inviting!
I’ll hush and let you enjoy this lovely transformation.
You’ll find additional “Before” pics as well as more “After” pics of this home at Magnolia Homes online where these pictures were found.
Are you a fan of the show? Did you catch the episode where this home in Waco,TX was renovated?
Looking forward to all the fabulous Before and Afters for this Met Monday!

Can you believe those two?
I mean really, Can you believe them?
They’re such an incredible team – and unbeatable in my opinion
This is one of my favorite ones – and they are definitely my favorite show – thanks for sharing
AND thanks so much for hosting – it’s so appreciated

Yes, I do love Fixer Upper & did happen to see the remodel of this house. I learned a new term from this episode, which is Shiplap. That’s the boards on the walls in the room with the fireplace. Their renovations are amazing & they are so cute along with it. It’s a very entertaining HGTV show.
Yeah, that’s a word I didn’t know until I heard it on there. I had always heard it called plank walls. I like the sound of shiplap better.
I watched this show. Chip and Joanna made quite a transformation on this one. They do amazing work recycling houses!
Thanks for the link party Susan.
Sheila
Amazing renovation! Love this show.
I love Chip & JoJo! My favorite show ever on HGTV! I have been wandering if they take on the whole house? If you notice, they only show 2 or 3 rooms. And another question, do the clients get to keep all the furnings or are the homes just staged? To me, JoJo’s decorations is what makes each house so pretty.
Susan,
Thank you for always hosting such a great roundup!
Have a lovely week!
Yes!!!! I LOVE their show. I tape it all the time. I think Joanna is AMAZING and I love their relationship…..how they tease each other and really seem to love and respect one another. They’re my favorites on HGTV!
Trish
I love “Fixer Upper” and I did see this episode. AMAZING!!! Chip and Joanna do unbelievable transformations. I’d love them to do my home.
Thanks for hosting Susan! I love to watch Fixer Upper! This house renovation is amazing!
Wow! That is quite a transformation!….Christine
Hi Susan,
That was quite a transformation! I don’t watch the show. Do they go all over the state (or country) or do they stay in the Waco area? I DO love to see stately old homes saved like this. But wow, that one took a lot of work. I hope they learn to take on fewer houses so she can get healthy! My goodness.
I’ve only seen a few shows and the ones I saw recently were all in the Waco, TX area. I’m not sure if the show takes them further away or not. They are fearless…I’m amazed at some of the homes they take on! Don’t you know the neighbors must love them for fixing up these homes and helping their neighborhood!
Absolutely! You know they breathe a sigh of relief when they see their truck roll up! Thanks.
I have seen this episode a couple of times. Their transformations are always quite astonishing. My husband and I have always wondered about the furnishings that Joanna brings in — are they just window dressing or is that part of the budget that the homeowners spend? Anyone know?
Good question! I’m guessing it’s part of the budget but maybe they get them at designer cost.
I love Fixer Upper! But, I always question the $…I have renovated lots of houses and I just don’t see how they do so much for so little…$100,000 or so [the average budget] may seem like a lot of money but an old falling down house is going to require much more than that…Still, it’s always an amazing transformation and full of ideas. Thanks for another great party Susan, happy week~
I have the same question. I love the show and I love their style! But I always wonder how they can do so much with such a small budget. We shop bargains and sales and I was smart to marry a plumber who can also do electrical, but how they can buy materials and pay labor to do all that with their budget is hard to fatham.
I have to agree. I saw a show recently where they renovated the whole house, including renovating the kitchen for about what an average kitchen renovation would cost around here. Maybe they are getting everything at cost or something.
I agree as well! And don’t the property brothers do the same thing? I’ve only seen that show a few times, back in the day, and boy, are things expensive in Canada! They’ll find one of those two family houses where you only purchase one side and they’ll tell the buyers (who are clearly terrified of the terrible condition) “I think you can get this house for about 640K and that leaves another 40K in your budget to redo it.” I know they don’t do the whole house, but they do enough to basically transform the whole house, and it has got to cost more than the 40K allowed. I also have some experience renovating and I have to wonder why these shows under represent the costs (or get such great deals on materials and labor.)
People who want to restore old buildings have my deepest respect and admiration, i think it a great achievement. Thank you for sharing this home and what was done it is a beauty, have a great day Susan.
I love Fixer Upper! It is amazing to see what they can do to a rundown house. They truly make it a beautiful HOME! Joanna really puts her heart into the design, I like watching her go to the Antique shops to search for the perfect pieces. I also really love how they bring their children to help with yard work, making special decorations, just visiting to have dinner together. They are a great Family Team!
Fixer Upper is a great show to highlight. They are definitely one talented couple. Thanks for hosting such a pretty party every Monday morning!
Those two are really awesome, and their personal stories are just as cool. He was a business major but loved working with his hands, and she was in communications. What synergy, but I can imagine the stress too. Geez, I get stressed just completing a meal for 20 people, in total control of things myself. Can you imagine working with 20 different contractors and not being able to much control any of it?? I really enjoy watching them work on camera. They said in an interview I read that often when the camera is focused from waist up, there’s a kid or two at their feet. 🙂
Thanks for sharing their work here, Susan. And for having us.
Rita
That’s so interesting, Rita…didn’t know that about the kiddos. lol
Absolutely gorgeous transformation! We watched a couple episodes yesterday, there must have been a marathon for the long holiday weekend! I am hooked! Love their show! Checking out their business! Hope you had a fun holiday weekend, Susan! Have a great week!
Yep, same here…I think it was a marathon because they were running back to back. I’m so glad they are fixing up so many really old homes and saving them.
I love Fixer Upper. Chip just cracks me up. He is such a juvenile!!! But he is so funny. Chip and Joanna are very talented and she has a ton of patience!! Not only are they fixing up lots of homes but they are also fixing up there own home inbetween all of the others! And somehow find lots of time to spend with the children who are adorable. This show and Property Brothers are the best ones on HGTV! Thanks for sharing. I didn’t see this show so glad you featured it.
lol He is a hoot!
Susan, I am an avid Fixer-Upper fan. I watch their show and even love the re-runs. Their business is great too for you can purchase some of JoAnn’s fabulous finds. Thanks for sharing.
I absolutely love this show! What creativity, ingenuity, and energy this gifted couple has! The whole show from beginning to end is fabulous! I love to watch the transformation, but most of all, I get so excited before the reveal. It’s a show my husband and I watch together. HGTV hit it out of the park with this one. So real. Thanks, Susan, for highlighting this. This house was my favorite transformation that season. I have watched every season more than once! Can you tell I am hooked? AND I am hooked on your blog too!Have a wonderful week!
Aww, thanks Sherry! Yep, I like their show and Property Brothers the best. Oh, and I also like the Island Hunters show where folks go shopping to buy their own private island. 🙂
I haven’t seen any of the episodes; but WOW! Thanks for sharing Susan. -Brenda-
The couple does marvelous restoration work–absolutely marvelous. And she is a talented interior designer. That said, I have one major complaint: Joanna sees exactly one color scheme in her mind. *sigh* I do enjoy the show and their bantering always makes me laugh.
I LOVE the show! I find myself watching it over and over again. Since we live less than two hours from Waco, I want to drive by some of their transformations. We also cannot wait until their silo retail area opens.
Oh, that would be cool! You could visit them all and take a picture of each one. That would make a cool blog post.
I absolutely am addicted to their show. You are right the tiny glimpse we see is part of their huge undertakings. Not sure how long they can keep it up. But, I will continue to watch the shows and follow her on instagram.
They are always working wonders. I saw this episode and although I love all their shows, I think this episode was the best. I’m hooked on this show. ( best thing on tv).
Thanks for hosting, Susan! Hope you had a wonderful holiday weekend.
Blessings,
Nici
Love this show, and what I find interesting ( and awesome ) is that I’m seeing this decorating style used very often now whenever we visit new model homes. Thanks for sharing the pics and for hosting! 🙂
Dear Susan, I watch every episode of Fixer Upper. I am curious as to how things (expenses, decision to purchase etc.) tie in with the taping of the show. Maybe they will do a behind the scenes show about them. Chip makes me laugh out loud. Aside from the decorating aspect I enjoy that you see their kids, the farm they have renovated , their goats, and glimpses of their life on the farm they have renovated. The last episode of the season indicated they are taking on anew type of project. They bought some sort of old water or storage tower that Joanna wants to do something with. I guess it may be included in the next season. It will be interesting to see if they change the show up a little. As always thanks for the post. Iris
Yeah, that would be really interesting to learn more about the expenses and how it all works. I know a lot of folks would love to know. Looking forward to the next season!
Fixer Upper is one of my very favorite shows. I can hardly wait for the new episodes to begin–I’ve seen all the others more than once. Chip and Joanna make beautiful creations and are fun to watch. And yes, Chip is very juvenile at times. Eating the cockroach was almost more than I could take! 🙂
Oh noooo, did he really do that???!!!
Yes, he did! Joanna said she wouldn’t be kissing him anytime soon! LOL
That boy just ain’t right in the head! lol I don’t blame her. I would NEVER kiss him again!
Yes, Susan–He really ate a cockroach that was on the wall. Joanna said it would be a long time before she kissed him again! LOL
Yuck! What possessed him to do that?!
Sorry I replied twice to your question but I couldn’t find the first I posted. Possibly it was when you were responding. I have no idea why Chip did that but I can’t imagine him doing it again. At least I hope! 🙂
Probably my favorite show right now! I really like their style…not too trendy but definitely not stuffy either. If you look on their website and dig around you can find more on what the budgets allow and don’t allow. Unfortunatley, they only stay in the Waco area; but I totally understand why, so they can stay close to home and be with their kids at night. Fabulous work.
Yeah, that makes sense. Be impossible to move around with little ones in school and such.
WOW!!!!! That is incredible!
We never watch tv here – why we have a huge flat screen is for company) so I didn’t even know I was missing this awesome talented couple! (They’re so cute too!) Heading over to their site now to see all the BaAs…..thanks for the recommendation, Susan.
Have a wonderful week!
Michele, you would love their show! I don’t watch very much TV either, mostly when I’m grabbing a bite to eat for lunch or cleaning in the kitchen, but if Fixer Upper is on, I usually turn the TV on here in the office when I come back up to see how the house turned out. Can’t miss the reveal!
“Fixer Upper” is my all-time favorite show on HGTV! I have seen all of the shows so far, most more than once. The loving family relationships are so heartwarming in a time when there seems to be so much hate in the world. Chip and Joanna’s talent and entrepreneurial acumen are incredible!
Thanks so much for hosting, Susan! I love Chip and Joanna and their show! So nice to see such sweet people on TV doing what we love most!
love and blessings~
Lynda @ Gates of Crystal
Hi Susan,
I love Chip and Joanna’s show! She always has a wonderful knack for decorating on a shoestring. I watch faithfully and love the reaction to the transformation from the homeowners. Thanks for sharing this little gem
Liz
Thanks for hosting another great party, Susan! I didn’t see that episode of Fixer Upper, but am so in love with the homes that they take on. I agree – some seem like total tear downs, but when they’re done the homes are absolutely beautiful. Good question you have – when do they sleep? LOL! Have a great week!
i love their show!
Love the work those two do. Absolutely incredible home that you featured above. Thanks for the party!
I, too, LOVE their series!! They really do seem so “down to earth” and their “banter” is really quite endearing. Talent married to talent!! Truly a “breath of fresh (Texas!) air! franki
Love Fixer Upper and love this transformation. Thanks so much for sharing it and for hosting. Hope your week is great Susan!
You have a big crowd today! I do love this couple. They do magnificent work. I guess I am old school on the décor though.
That’s an absolutely revamping to the max.
Lovely…
Oh wow! I have seen their show a few times. They did a fantastic job on that home. Too bad it is in Texas.
Fixer Upper is definitely one of my favorite shows. I’ve seen the episode you feature here several times, and it’s probably one of my favorites. In fact all of their episodes that feature old houses from the early 20th century are my favorites– just love seeing how they take those wonderful old gems and restore and reinterpret them for today’s lifestyles. Thanks for hosting!
I love this house, and I love Chip & Joanna. What a great show!!
I have never seen this show, can you believe it? I must tune in! They do beautiful work, not only with the renovation, but with the decor, as well. Some of those pieces are truly stunning and the lighting is out of this world! 🙂 Thanks for the party, Susan!
I’d live on that porch all year long no matter how cold.
I had stopped watching HGTV until my husband pointed this show out to me. We live about an hour or so from Waco, which is what caught his eye. I LOVE this show! I agree with a previous commenter about Joanna’s persistent color scheme, but it’s one that I like so I live with it 🙂 Here’s an article addressing some of the other questions commenters have had (like do they do all the rooms, or just the ones shown; do they keep the furnishings, etc): http://hookedonhouses.net/2015/03/23/hgtv-behind-the-scenes-chip-joanna-on-fixer-upper/
I JUST LOVE THIS SHOW! THEY ARE SUCH A GREAT MATCH; HE, SO KOOKY, BUT IN A FUN WAY, AND SHE KNOWS JUST HOW TO SIMMER HIM DOWN. THEY ARE SUCH A SWEET LITTLE FAMILY, TOO—VERY FAMILY ORIENTED AND LOVEY-DOVEY. THEY ALWAYS MAKE ME SMILE. I MISSED THIS HONEY OF A MAKE-OVER—WHAT A GORGEOUS FINALE! I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED SEEING BEFORE AND AFTERS, AND THIS COUPLE APPEAR TO DO IT SEAMLESSLY. THIS IS A FAVORITE SHOW THAT, THANK GOODNESS, HASN’T BEEN CANNED LIKE OTHERS I LOVED. SUSAN, THANK YOU FOR ALWAYS HOSTING SUCH INTERESTING AND DIVERSIFIED TOPICS—YOU ARE THE BEST!
Thanks, Bobbi…hopefully it will be around for a long time!
I know some people would not agree but I love the old looking exteriors, the befores, sort of like some people love “chippy ” furniture. Not that I am not all for preserving the house or don’t love the gorgeous exteriors.
