Please, No Talking To The Lifeguard

Welcome to the 302nd Tablescape Thursday!

Just imagine we are on holiday. We’re chilling at the beach and the hibiscus are in bloom.

Summer Coastal Tablescape

The table is set and the wine has been poured.

Star Napkins and Nautical Rope Napkin Rings

I have 4-5 small tablecloths I like to use on this little table here on the deck, but none are in colors that work well with this week’s table setting.

After walking around the house for a little while, looking for something that would work, I ended up in the upstairs family room where I spied the throw that had been on the porch swing at Christmastime. (See porch decorated for Christmas in this post: A Christmas Porch: 2013)

Christmas Pillows

The color made me think of sand, perfect for a beachy tablescape. Throws and blankets make great impromptu tablecloths in a pinch. Sometimes I think they’re even better than a tablecloth…love the texture and thickness they offer.

Coastal Tablescape with Shell Dishware

Remember the fishnet I used as a tablecloth for this lobster crab fest?

It’s providing a nice backdrop for our table, along with a whimsical sign I spotted in HomeGoods recently. I was in the checkout line which was kind of long that day. Bored, my eyes began wandering. The “Sand, Sea and Surf” sign was hanging nearby and it was a total impulse buy.

Beach Coastal Tablescape

I could see it hanging on the porch during the summer months.

The swimmer, lifeguard stand and little sign over her head, all protrude outward giving the sign a 3-D effect.

Napkin rings are made with rope.

Coastal Theme Table Setting

I found a video on YouTube showing how to tie this cute nautical knot for our napkins.

It’s called a Square Knot or Reef Knot and it’s super easy to make.

Napkins are from Pottery Barn…on sale a couple of years back.

Salad plates are Sakura, Warren Kimble-Coastal Breeze. I’ve used them many times before for Tablescape Thursday. Shell dinner plates are Shoreline Collection-Home Studio from Kohl’s around 6 years ago. Flatware is by Hampton Forge and available here: Hampton Forge Argent Sophia

You’ll need to include a link in your post back to the party in order to link up and participate. That’s so visitors to your blog will be able to find the party and the other Tablescape Thursday participants. Requiring a link back also prevents businesses from linking up to sell their products. (Yep, that really happens, unfortunately.)

If you would like to use the Tablescape Thursday logo button in your post, just copy and paste it to your computer and upload it to your post as you would any photo.

Please, don’t add your post name/blog name ALL IN CAPS…it tends to create big spaces between the rows of links.

  1. Thanks for hosting Susan! I haven’t joined the party in a while, but I always enjoy seeing the pretty tables others link each week. Love the rope knot napkin holders on your table this week!

  2. That was a great idea with the throw- perfect sandy coloring! Your little alcove makes for a nice intimate spot for dining. The hibiscus frame the area off nicely and the beach sign with fishnetting add a perfect touch! I always liked Warren Kimble designs and these salad plates look great on the Kohls Shoreline Collection dinner plates- I like how they are big and hunky! Great summertime beachy themed table!

    • Throws and blankets, great tablecloths in a pinch! 🙂 Thanks, Liz! I love Warren Kimble plates too…he must have whimsy in his heart to create the beautiful scenes he comes up with for dishware.

  3. Love this table! You were right…that throw is perfect, and I love the napkins and rope napkin rings. Totally coveting your plates…

  4. I’m ready to go to the beach — or, at the very least, sit at your beachy table. Your beach dishes are all so pretty, and what a clever idea to tie the napkins with a nautical knot. Great beach sign too. laurie

  5. Susan, I love the throw on your table! It’s perfect for the beach setting. Sometimes we do best when we have to look around and think out of the table linen box. Your beach theme and decor is fun and beautiful. I’m ready to hit the beach this summer, too! Thanks for hosting each week. 🙂

  6. Adorable Susan, I love the whimsy of the sign and your porch/beach table setting!

  7. I love love this table for 2 by the sea Susan, I have serious napkin envy! They are fabulous and I love the rope knot! What a wonderful atmosphere you have created in that little corner!

  8. Your beach decor is fabulous!! I adore those plates 🙂 Thanks for hosting!

  9. Susan, I love the throw on the table! WOW! My little brain would not have thought of that. Love the beachj scene and tablescape! My family has a trip planned in August for the beach. So excited! Your tablescape is just perfect. You was my very first inspiration to start doing tablescapes. Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  10. Great table setting! Thanks for hosting – I would love a few days at the beach too, but will have to wait a few weeks, we are leaving for Florida! Have a great weekend -J

  11. What a cute table Susan! Thanks for hosting!

  12. I think she’s waiting on the lifeguard and I think a trip to the beach sounds heavenly right now. Your table is very intimate and classy. Thanks again for hosting!

  13. Love your beach inspired table….and using the netting over the window as a backdrop is wonderful. Love the way you take the extra steps to fill in the details!

  14. My favorite place on earth is the beach. So where did I end up after I was married, Colorado, thank you Army. So my “beach” is the Great Sand Dunes national park about 3 hrs away. And yes I will go there bring beach sounds music, stick my toes in the creek and pretend *sigh*.

  15. Hi lovely lady.
Thanks so much for hosting your linky party for us today. Your Nautical Tablescape is Beautiful as always.
God Bless and hoping you have a wonderful weekend.
    ~ Diane

  16. Yes Susan, take me to the beach, don’t forget the bucket and spades!!
The throw works perfectly and the sign is terrific, you know how I love signs!! I have always coveted your square ocean plates, they would go perfect with my plates in the gazebo.
Last one in the ocean….pays for lunch!!!! 🙂

  17. Thanks for hosting, Susan. Loving the table you have put together. I would have to say she is waiting on a hunky lifeguard. She is so modestly dressed for the beach I think she comes from a different era and women aren’t allowed to be lifeguards.

  18. Your sweet table for two is perfect and both the blooming plants and the adorable sign just scream summer. Thank you for hosting!

  19. I so miss partying here and just POSTING! I still can not get pictures to load. Someone said I need to upload the Blogger app to my tablet but I don’t know how to do that either:( Anyway, I LOVE your table. The sign is so cute, and I do think she is waiting for the hunky lifeguard:) Have a great weekend, Susan. XO

  20. Good grief! I would LOVE to take a vacation right about now. Not sure if I’d want to go to the beach. It’s already like a sauna here in the Kansas City area with high temps and unfathomable humidity. If it’s this bad in June, what will July and August bring? 🙁

I LOVE IT that you hung that fishnet in the window like that! That is a really cool touch! I’ll be borrowing that idea for a future setting! That really gives the whole vignette a special look.

Impulse buys. Aren’t they great? In this case, though, you did good! That is a fun little sign, and you can use it over and over again in the coming years.

I’ll have to learn to tie a nautical knot. I have no idea how. I don’t even know the difference between starboard and whatever that other end is called! That’s what I get for living in the middle of the country!

Neat tablescape, and it’s perfect for this time of year! Enjoy your weekend!

  21. I’ve being late to everything for over a month, so I will post on the weekend my 4th. of July scape, as I’m getting so inspired with you and this great party!
Lots of hugs and thanks a lot, dear Susan!
    FABBY

  22. Susan, your tablescape is oozing with creativity and personality. You are right about the texture of your throw being just what you needed for your beach inspired table.
Love the rope napkin rings with the star napkins. Perfect! Sign is so cute too.
Wow, your hibiscus topiaries are striking!
    Thanks for hosting TT.

  23. Awww, another table-for-two, sweet!
Sandy table-throw–genius. And hibiscus are the perfect accents to enclose the little scene.

  24. Hi Susan,
I love your beach table setting! I love the nautical knot for your napkins.

    Thank you for hosting,
    Carolyn

  25. I’m ready to dive in!!! 🙂 (the dessert bar…) franki

  26. Peggy Thal says

Such a fun table! Makes one happy a enjoy just being outside. I have the same plates. Haven’t used them in years. Kind of forgot about them. You inspired me to get out the beachy look once again.
