Cooling Off with Corals and Blues: Enjoy a Beach-Themed Table on the Porch

Welcome to the 716th Tablescape Thursday!

With the first day of summer upon us in less than a week, I was very much in the mood for a beachy, seaside-themed table. It’s super shady on the porch this time of year, plus a big storm was trying to roll in. It never did, though. I wish it had, we need the rain.

Beach-Themed Table on Screened Porch, 2022

I think this is the first time I’ve used this coral and shell-covered tablecloth I purchased in Marshalls (I think it was Marshalls) earlier this year. I loved the vibrant colors–the mix of the coral orange with so, so many shades of blue.

I don’t often use tablecloths, especially patterned tablecloths–they can sometimes make a table feel really busy. Also, they can make it a challenge to choose the right dinnerware, napkins, glasses, etc… for the table. Tablecloths definitely add another level of complexity to setting a balanced, eye-pleasing table.

At first, I set the table with neutral, kinda bland chargers, then I said, to heck with it and gave into the busy vibe. The shell chargers were a DIY project a few years back, you’ll find a link to those further down in this post.

I love blue and coral together. I’m not much of a fan of the color orange, but I do like coral, especially when paired with blue.

Coral and Blue Napkins and Tablecloth, Beachy Tablescape

I don’t often have an opportunity to use this blue flatware I purchased in Kohl’s back in 2008, but it worked great in this beachy table setting.

Brought out the crab and lobster plates you’ve so often seen me use over the years. They say “World Market” on the back. Not sure if that’s the store I purchased them in or the brand. Maybe they were designed for World Market…that’s probably it. Are they still in business? I hope they are. The plates pair nicely with this coral and shell tablecloth with their subtle coral-etched design.

Do you see the coral design etched into the plate behind Mr. Lobster? The blue wine glasses are from Pier 1 quite a few years back. The shell chargers were a DIY project from a few years back.

Here’s a better view of those.

You’ll find a tutorial for making these shell chargers here: DIY Shell Chargers.

Here’s your seat, right here at the head of the table with a view of the birds coming to the feeder.

Porch Dining, Summer Entertaining Outdoors

I love this lantern, I believe I found it in Marshalls one year…been too long to remember for sure. I was drawn to it its “lighthouse” design. It always makes me think of a lighthouse.

I turned off a lot of the lights on the porch so we could enjoy a bit of candlelight.

It’s blazing hot here in Georgia so it feels like summer has arrived. Stay cool and drink lots of water! Happy Summer!

  1. I LOVE this table, Susan! I feel just like I’m at the beach! I’m with you on the busy-ness of patterned tablecloths, but settings like this inspire me to use them more – they can be so wonderfully beautiful and interesting. Thanks for hosting the party and for giving me a bright spot in my week. Happy Thursday!

    • Thanks so much, Barbara! Yeah, these patterned tablecloths can be a challenge. Happy Spring, almost summer! Hope you are having a great one!

  2. I love the table cloth. This is such a pretty and relaxing table setting with every complimenting detail. I can feel the sand under my feet and hear the waves rolling in as I imagine sitting at this table 😉 Happy summer!

    • Ohhh, I wish I could feel some sand under my feet for real! I think a beach somewhere is calling my name! Happy Summer, Karen!

  3. I think the busy table looks great, much like you’d see if you were looking down at coral in the ocean, kind of like the view through waves. Good job!

  4. BEAUTIFUL table, Susan. I love everything about it. Your tablecloth highlights all the components beautifully. Outstanding!

    • Thanks so much, Rosie! Shhh, don’t tell anyone but I noticed that I somehow grabbed the wrong napkin for one place setting. Arggg, I didn’t even notice until I was folding them today. Don’t know how I managed that. At least it was in the same color scheme. I wonder if anyone noticed the one odd napkin. lol

Susan – I LOVE your new tablecloth! Your tablescape is beautiful! Everything coordinates so well. I don’t think it looks too busy. Love all of your pieces, esp those salad plates with the lobster, crab, etc!! Great job!

    • That’s awesome! Thanks so much, Sheryl! I’m so glad it doesn’t come across too busy. I tried to balance out all the colors. Hope you are having a wonderful spring…summer will soon be here!

World Market is alive and well, at least here in Nashville. I almost never get there, it’s so far on the other side of the city. I’ve only been once since they’ve moved to a larger store. I kinda liked the earlier one better–it was cozy. Maybe I’ll venture over there one of these days.

  8. Love love your table!! Reminds me I need to do a shrimp and crab boil for the family soon. Will send you photos. I always swoon over your beautiful porch!!!!! Enjoy your weekend!

  9. I so look forward to every Thursday for your Tablescape. One I have admired is your American Atelier Athena Turkey one with the lidded soup bowls.
I am no longer setting tablescapes and have listed both the soup tureen and 4 lidded soup bowls on Ebay.

  10. Great table. My first thought was I don’t really care for the tablecloth BUT after seeing it styled with the plaid/solid napkins, I changed my mind. Good choice.
