A Country Rooster Table Setting

Welcome to the 137th Tablescape Thursday!

It was gorgeous here today. It was so pretty I was tempted to put this tablescape out on the porch, but the pollen is insane right now. If you look closely, you can see it out there on the porch floor. That isn’t dust…that’s pollen! Yikes! We’ll tablescape out there soon, but for now let’s stay inside where it’s a little less messy.

So come on in and have a seat…

Country Rooster Table Setting with Rooster Plates

Today the roosters are the star of the show, beginning with these cute rooster appetizer plates/bowls. I’ve used these once before in a tablescape on the porch HERE. This one has red around the edge.

And this one is edged in blue.

A view without the napkin.

I decided to use my red, ruffle-edged salad plates for a little contrast. I’ve used these before in this fall tablescape and in this Valentine’s Day tablescape.

This china has a matching salad plate, but I really liked the look of the red for this table setting.

The dinner plate: I love the acorns and sunflowers in this pattern.

Maxcera Fall Rooster

This pattern is called “Fall Rooster” but I think the sunflowers make it great for summertime, too. As you can see, setting a pretty table doesn’t have to break the budget. The dinner plates and salad plates were only $2 each. Gotta love Marshalls!

I layered a plaid napkin with a solid napkin for a fuller appearance. I just love mixing plaids in with patterned china. Setting a table can be like decorating a room. Mix those patterns for lots of interest and color. The beaded napkin rings were found on sale at Pier 1 in their clearance bin years ago.

If you don’t have a lot of napkin rings in your tablescaping arsenal, don’t worry. Inexpensive raffia works great. I think it would have been a pretty alternative for this tablesetting.

Glasses are from Old Time Pottery and were very inexpensive. I bought these a year or two ago, but they still had them the last time I was there.

For my centerpiece, I snagged Mr. Rooster from the kitchen counter where he lives full time and placed him atop a cake pedestal I bought at HomeGoods years ago. He has settled down into a bed of nandina and encore azaleas clipped from the yard.

Rooster salt and pepper shakers complete this rooster themed table setting.

My sweet daughter-in-love-to-be, gifted these adorable rooster spreaders and yummy jams to me this past Christmas.

Birds-eye view…

Looking forward to all the beautiful tablescapes posted for this Tablescape Thursday! 🙂

  1. Lovin the rooster sitting in the azaleas!

  2. Your rooster dishes are quite fabulous you know! I especially like the shape of them! They do go very well with the Maxcera plates! Another fun table. Thanks for hosting and for sharing so much with us.

  3. Linda (More Fun Less Laundry) says

Hi Susan, It's amazing how different the two rooster tables can be using the same accent plates and chargers and chicken (or is he a rooster?). Your yard flowers are a nice accent. Nothing is blooming here yet–very late this year, even for the daffodils. Your future dil choose very cute spreaders–she has good taste 🙂 Linda

Looks beautiful Susan. I love Mr. Rooster in the middle of table. Spring really doesn't want to be sprung here in NJ. Still cold only in the low 40's and raining tonight. Wish I could sit at your table 🙂

  13. Susan, in my book, roosters are in season any time of year. 😉 Yes, lots of green dust around here too, but I'm always thrilled to be at any of your tables. Love the fact that you have so many lovely options. These dishes are full of color and joy. And you also worked in a bit of plaid. You know today is National Tartan Day!

  27. Hi Susan,

What a fun, colorful, HAPPY table! That's a great tip about substituting raffia for napkin rings. The color and texture would be perfect with your rooster theme. Your azalea blossoms look great with the nandina foliage — the colors and shapes harmonize beautifully.

Thank you for hosting and for the fun and inspiration you always share.

    Warmest regards,
    Bill

  50. Anonymous says

Beautiful table..and loved seeing all the pretty tables of others.. Disappointed in the amount of people using this weekly event to take advantage to post non tablescape posts to advertise their site. It really takes time to visit ea person that has worked hard on their tables it's a shame to take time away from those we dont get to because of time restraints going to a site that isn't posting a
Tablescape. Sorry but felt the need to speak up because I use my iPhone to view this event and don't like using my Internet usage for folks not participating in correct manner.

  51. Dear Susan, This was a beautiful tablescape! How I adore roosters! I'm so thankful you host this party.

BTW, I linked to your Tablescape Thursday two weeks ago, (I mean made a link on my post, but never got to link up due to visiting grandchildren.) So I added two today. I do hope that is OK. It was called the art of the leisurely breakfast.

After reading the previous comment by anonymous, I'm suddenly nervous that I shouldn't link at all. I made a pretty tablescape for my Tuesday tea post this week, because I used some of my best china. But the post was actually not about tablescapes..but about taking care of yourself. I had purposely set a very pretty table (the best I can do) for tea so I could share my china and table with your readers. It might be that I shouldn't. I didn't remember reading that it was strictly to show your dishes and you shouldn't talk about anything else.

I'm going to re-read your guidelines and make sure I'm not making a mistake. Hopefully, she wasn't referring to me. :o)

  52. By the way Susan, I have to say, that I just look and look at your photos. You have the absolutely most stunning dishes! How I love the bright colors and the raffia idea for tying napkins. I have some rooster napkin holders too. :o)

Your combinations of colors are so bright and cheery! And isn't the pollen just awful! It's covering our patio table and the picnic table. I'll be glad when the trees are done flowering!

I can't wait to see some of your tablescapes outdoors. :o)

  53. Susan (Between Naps on the Porch) says

Donna, your post is great…don't delete it! No, you definitely don't have to just talk about your tablescape in your post. You are so nice to even ask about that. The post just needs to have a tablescape in it, which your does. 🙂 Thanks for your sweet comments…you are a love and I appreciate those kind words!

  54. designchic says

  63. Hi love the country rooster table setting I am needing lampshades wondered were she found hers.

  64. The country rooster tBle setting is beautiful I have the same color scheme and wanted to know were I could get the lamp shades.

  65. Love Mr. Rooster and the centerpiece of clippings from the yard! Fun plates also! I have some roosters on my mantle now but nothing special because in a couple of weeks we start painting our family room and a kitchen remodel also. So everything must come down and after all that I hope the Easter look replaces it if gets done in time!! Then when things look fresh I may start with some new ideas and new accessories! Thanks for the inspiration!
