Cozy Lake House With A Fabulous Screened Porch

Remember this beautiful beach home we toured recently? As dreamy, light-hearted and ethereal as it is, I have discovered its equal in the “cozy” department.

Airy Beach Cottage Bedroom

Located in North Carolina on the shores of Lake Toxaway, this home is everything a lake cottage should be. The interior design was done by Kathryn Long of Ambiance Interiors and it reminded me a little of the work of the late designer, Charles Faudree. Did you ever get a chance to see his lake cottage in Traditional Home magazine?

Cozy Lake Home

Love this amazing great room with a fabulous rock fireplace! I also love that they finished the plank walls in a soft cream color instead of going really dark or too white. It’s perfect! Notice the color of the sofa, we’ll be seeing a lot of gorgeous greens throughout this home.

Behind the sofa we find an inviting dining room. The colors and wood tones throughout this home are so soft, so comfortable. I would totally be at home here.

I’ve always loved this color green for cabinetry. If I ever get around to creating a home library, this is one of the colors I’ve considered for the bookshelves/cabinetry. I’ve often heard similar greens referred to as “Library Green.” I wonder if there was ever an actual paint color by that name.

Lake House Kitchen with Green Cabinetry

A beautiful bedroom with a comfy reading/conversation area. Notice the large ottoman, plenty big enough to work as a shared ottoman for both chairs.

This may be the bathroom for the bedroom above since the wallpaper looks similar to the window treatments and pillow shams.

Again we see beautiful paneling, I think this paneling is painted in a soft muted green, although it could just be the reflection of the greenery/trees from outside. What do you think…is it green? The ceiling looks lighter, perhaps it’s painted the cream color we saw in the great room. Either way, it’s a gorgeous color for a lake cabin. Notice the unique built-in shelving on either side of the beds.

Imagine soaking in this tub with those views just outside!

Another beautiful bedroom with amazing views…

Love the twig mirror with birds! It would be so much fun to decorate a lake home and use all these fun pieces. The sink cabinet reminds me of something. What is it designed to look like? Is it mimicking a grain bin? I know I’ve seen that shape before somewhere!

This loft area is one of my favorite “rooms” in this lovely home. Next to the screened porch, it’s probably my favorite area.

Lake Cottage with Cozy Attic Nooks

You can tell those who live here have a love for reading.

There are so many little spots to squirrel away with a good book in this cozy loft library.

This beautiful home also has a fabulous screened porch to take in the views and the cool lake breezes. Imagine the frog and cricket symphony that must take place here each night! 🙂

susan, love this home. I have been eagerly awaiting your library renovation for years! I know it would be fabulous!!

  4. Who needs a vacation if you have a home like this? Every day would feel like a vacation! I adore the color palette; and, like you, I think my favorite spaces are also the porch and reading nook. But that kitchen is coming in at a close second. Thanks for sharing such an amazing home!

  5. Thank you for showing this charming home. While so many others like the light and airy feel of white and light colors, I am continually drawn to the cozier feel of the colors in this cottage. I love the green bedroom. Such a soothing sanctuary.

  6. Susan ~ What a wonderful house! I love it! It looks like a home and not a showhouse. Green always works to me! Love the wood floors and the wallpaper in the bathroom is beautiful! The braided round rug in the bedroom with two beds reminds me of my grandmother’s home. Thank you for sharing!

  7. Love that porch with the beautiful fireplace, and the kitchen is just the right size. (The ceiling and paneling in that bedroom definitely looks green to me Susan.)

OK, Susan…..there is no way to pick a fav room in this house. I love them all. I do especially like the upstairs reading room area since I love to read. I used to have hundreds of books until they were taking over my house so I donated them to the library up the street. Now almost all of my books are on my Kindle (except for a few stashed in my bedroom armoire…shhh!) but this reading area made me wish for a space like that in my house. I love all of the colors used throughout this house. I am not a “green” person but I love the greens used here. So soft and warm and comforting. What is not to love in this house!!!! Do you think they would like a weekend guest or two? Want to meet me there?

  9. My favorite place would be the porch from mid spring til mid fall. For the other months, my fave spot would be the loft. My second fave area would be the rest of the house, all year 😉
So, does the valance in the first bathroom look a teeny bit familiar?

  10. Marlene Stephenson says:

A great place to live so cozy and i adore that library, i could spend time in there reading or looking out the window.

  11. Marilyn in Mt. Vernon, VA says:

  12. Charlotte says:

    Beautiful home! Love everything.

  13. I love everything about this house. It is perfection!

  14. I love all the textures, especially the use of plank on the walls. And what’s not to love about the kitchen island and the screened porch!

  15. This house just oozes warmth, comfort, and coziness, Susan. So beautiful! Loved those planked walls and ceilings. Thank you so much for sharing these awesome, inspiring homes!

  16. Beautiful home Susan. I loved looking at the luscious rooms. I love the rug in the bedroom with the iron canopy bed!!! Could the design of that sink cabinet be reminding you of a dry sink? That’s what I thought of when I saw it. Thanks so much for another interesting post. Vikki in VA.

  17. Now, this house says ‘home’ to me……..how completely charming and welcoming!!! Love the green paneled bedroom with the twin beds….and that great rug…….it all whispers comfort and warmth…..as does the rest of the home. Thanks for finding this one!!! xoxoxo

  18. Susan, every time I think I fall in love with a house you post you outdo yourself with the next one! I do think this one is my all time favorite though. It is so cozy and inviting and I love all the nooks and crannies.

About that library green…I use a site for web design colors but it also has the colors for every type of paint imaginable. If you find a color you like, you just enter the hex code or the color family you’re looking for. It lists every type of paint manufacturer’s colors with names and numbers, including auto colors. It also gives suggestions for complimentary colors. I’ve used it just as much for decorating as I do in web design. It’s called Encycolorpedia, it may help you in your search for that perfect green.

Thanks again for another fabulous getaway!

  19. Wow! Love this home, the decor, the colors, the wood planks on the walls. I’ve pinned quite a few of the photos. I have a Charles Faudree book that includes a feature on his lake cottage, and, as you say, this house definitely reminds me of his lake cottage.

  20. bobbi duncan says:

I am drooling…love, love, love this house and the fabric colors. Most greens are such soothing colors. We have a friend who lives on Lake Toxaway. I love this area and have stayed at the Greystone Inn on the lake on several occasions…lovely place for a very relaxing time. This home blends so perfectly with it’s beautiful surroundings…I want to move in.

I'd love to hear from you! Please leave a comment!
