Decorating the Porch for Spring

Welcome to the 266th Metamorphosis Monday!

This weekend was so nice here, especially Sunday. I threw open both doors to the porch and spent some time enjoying our 70+ degree weather.

Sunday on the Porch

I did a little pre-spring cleaning, dusting off a few things in anticipation of the warm days to come.

Bunny Tray for Screened Porch

Recently, I came across this little bird feeder in Lowes. It has a rope attached and when hanging up it looks like a porch swing. Cute, huh?

Eventually I’ll fill it with seed and hang it up for the birdies but as I was looking it over today, I started thinking what a fun server it would be for a summer party. I could tuck a couple of small dishes down inside or perhaps line the compartments with something so it could hold snacky stuff. Can you see it? Be fun for a 4th of July cookout.

I brought the mosaic bird house (that lives on the porch during the summer) back out and placed it on the table along with some of the daffodils you saw in this previous DIY Potting Table post.

On Saturday, a friend came over and we hung out and went shopping for a bit. He’s traveling to Australia and New Zealand soon and needed some last-minute things before he leaves for his trip.  Later that evening another friend joined us for dinner in a restaurant we had all been wanting to try. Before we headed out to dinner, I gave each of them a pot of daffodils to take home. They made me laugh because at first they thought they were fake! Apparently, they looked too pretty to be real. 🙂

Just as I finished typing that sentence, I heard thumps and noises out on the deck. Mr. Raccoon is right on time for his nightly raid of the suet and bird feeders. 🙂

When you last saw the hutch here on the porch, it was decorated for Christmas with greenery, hot chocolate and peppermint sticks. (This dishware was previously used in this table setting: A Christmas Table Setting with Nature-Themed Dishware)

Hutch on Porch Decorated for Christmas with Hot Chocolate

Before that, it had been decorated for fall.

Decorate a Hutch for Fall in White

It was looking pretty bare since all the Christmas decor was long gone, so I pulled out my fave porch dishes and freshened it up for spring. Spring is fast approaching now. Our Redbud trees are in full bloom and the daffodils are peeking up out of the ground. The birds were chirping up a storm today and they were really active at the feeders. I think they know spring is almost here. I’m so ready to say good-bye to the cold for good. This warm weather is just a temporary respite I’m sure, but I’m enjoying it while it lasts!

Hope spring will soon be headed your way, too!

    Blessings,
    Nici

  3. I love seeing your hutch decorated for the seasons Susan!

  4. What a beautiful porch – and the bird feeder is the cutest one I’ve ever seen!
Thanks so much for hosting – have a great week
( I’m pretty jealous that you can be out on the porch already – it’s freezing here in Montreal )
    XOXO

  5. I love that bird feeder, Susan! It’s perfect for you! I am loving our weather….hope it continues! Hugs…Debbie

  6. Sandi Lee says

Love your lamp next to the pot of daffodils-it is so hard for me to find a lamp I like these days as so many seem to look like throwbacks from the 1950’s which don’t work in my house Love the bunny tray too!

    • I know, Sandi…that’s all I ever find. I literally looked for years before I found the three on the porch. I’ll find lamps I love when out shopping, but they always have the huge drum shades on them. I don’t like those because they don’t shield your eyes from the light when you walk buy them on a low table. I’m hoping that trend passes soon!

  7. Your porch looks so pretty decorated for spring. It was in the 60’s here yesterday and today it’s pouring down snow and I’m off from school. March weather is crazy!

  8. Peggy Thal says

Susan, your porch looks so great. Love all the spring touches. I think we are all really ready for Spring.( waiting for a big storm today in VA). Love the cute little porch swing. I like your idea as a serving container or maybe even a planter. The birds and other animals will just ruin it. Your self looks so cute too.

  9. I am SO envious of your spring-like weather! We still have a foot of snow on the ground here, and it is really cold. It’s nice to gaze upon your spring porch, if only virtually, and think about warmer days to come!

  10. I am jealous of your spring weather. We were once again under a wind chill warning yesterday so no open windows around here. This morning it was only -13 degrees and we had no more new snow so maybe spring will come here too! I like the idea of using the bird feeder as a serving item…enjoy!

  11. Thanks for hosting. I was having a problem with the link back requirement, even though I have you linked to in my post. I hope it posted ok, because I enjoy this party!

    Shannon ~ bohemianjunktion.com

    • Sorry Shannon, InLinkz has been doing that lately…not sure why. He was working on it and thought he had it fixed, but I guess not. Thanks for letting me know because I had several in there “waiting on approval.” 🙁 You should see your link there now.

  12. TippysMom says

Good morning! WHAT??? You had a 70 degree weekend? We had and still have snow and 20 degrees 🙁 Looking at your porch is a wonderful way to start the first week of March. It’s always decorated so pretty and has me yearning (not only for a screened-in porch) for warmer days ahead! Enjoy!

  13. Susan, I love your porch decorated for spring! Especially the hutch with it’s pretty dishes. I’m so jealous of your nice weather. I think spring is still a long way off here in Illinois. This morning the temp is -5.

  14. Thank you for sharing your warmth & Spring like day……especially for those of us freezing in the
snow & ICY.The post brightened my morning, knowing that soon we “penquins “will be able
    to enjoy sun & warmth.

  15. I think your porch is just dreamy and thought of 70 degrees and open doors is wonderful. My porch is just screened in and right now the only thing decorating it, is snow! 😉 Hopefully, we’ll get some of your warm weather soon!

  16. I just looked at my porch and thought it needs a little cleaning/sprucing up, however, it’s a chill gray day not conducive to the effort. Yours is ready for nice days.

  17. DebraAnn says

What is the dinnerware pattern that you’ve just displayed on the porch, and where did you purchase the dinnerware (if you don’t mind sharing this info). It looks great!

    • Thanks! It’s called Ma Maison by Tabletops Unlimited. I found it in HomeGoods around 5-6 years ago. It was designed by Dario Farrucci. There’s usually a good bit of his dishware on eBay, although Ma Maison is harder to find. I don’t think they made a lot of it.

  18. Debbie McCleery says

    Hi,

I really enjoy you blog. I am jealous of you nice weather. We are still freezing here in Ohio. Can you please tell me what the company name is on the back of the bunny plate in your last blog. I collect bunnies and I loved that dish. Thanks

    • Thanks, Debbie! Which bunny plate? Do you mean the tray I showed in this post or some bunny plates in a previous post? I have several with bunnies so just want to make sure I know which one you mean. The bunny tray in this post probably came from HomeGoods or Marshalls. I’ve had it so long, it’s hard to remember. It says “Nesting” and “Mudpie” on the back of it. If that’s not the one you meant, just let me know. 🙂

  19. PLEASE tell us where you got that gorgeous bunny tray!!!!!!!!!!! I am swooning over it! I love your porch in EVERY season! The bird feeder is adorable! We got more darn snow overnight, NO warth or Spring in these parts:(:( I am heading to Fl. soon!

    • I can’t remember now since I’ve had for so many years. I’m guessing I found it in either HomeGoods, Marshalls or TJ Max since that’s normally where I find the cute stuff. 🙂 I looked on the back of it and it says “Nesting” and it also says “Mudpie.” Check on eBay Pinky…maybe it will be on there since I”ve seen Mudpie items on there before. I know you are ready to see Florida!

  20. Susan, I love how you’ve decorated your hutch! Thank you for sharing and for hosting. Happy Week to You! Toodles, Kathryn @TheDedicatedHouse

  21. Hi Susan. As always, your hutch (and the rest of your porch too!) look wonderful! I always enjoy seeing the different ways that you dress it up each season and holiday. Kooky weather – it was in the 70’s here in NC too yesterday. Today we’re supposed to get 1″ of sleet and dip down to 15 tonight. Brrr! Thank you for hosting and have a great week.

  22. Susan, your porch looks beautiful any time of the year, but especially beautiful to see Spring on the porch after all of this cold weather we’ve been having. We have a good layer of snow over a good layer of ice here today. I love that pretty tray and the pot that your daffs are in. Thank you for hosting the linky. laurire

  23. Your porch looks beautiful! Thanks for hosting! Life to the full! Melissa

  24. Suzanne of Simply Suzannes at Home

Your Springtime porch is so pretty and bright!
It’s so fun to have a piece of furniture that can undergo so many beautiful trasformations.
Thanks so much for hosting . . . and have a great week,
    Suzanne

  25. Your porch looks wonderful! Love the bunny dish on your coffee table. Hope you have a great week. Thanks for hosting.

  26. gayle olson says

Will you share the name of your Christmas dishes…I love them and need another set like another hole in my head but we can’t help ourselves, can we?

  27. Susan,
LOVE the porch all decked out in orange, yellow and green for Spring, dear friend!
Too, too funny that your friends thought your flowers fake!!!
The sun is brightly shining on our freshly fallen 3+ inches of ice and snow.
School, Recreation Center & Senior Center all closed today. . .
heading down to Studio One…where it’s Springtime all year ’round!
Thanks for hosting Metamorphosis Monday each week!
I’ll take all the “Spring” inspired ideas this linky party can give, especially today!!!
    Fondly,
    Pat

  28. Thank you for hosting Susan. I loved your post today. I am living vicariously through my favorite southern blogs right now because spring still seems very far away here in Ohio. Thanks again, Susie

  29. Hi Susan! Oh, how I love your porch and it looks wonderful. I love your little green hutch and I kinda copied the color of yours when I painted my tiny little breakfast room hutch. 🙂 Those dishes are just the cutest things too. Thank you for hosting your party. Hope you’re doing well.
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia 😉

  30. What a great piece of furniture, love the color! Thank you for hosting.

  31. Ah, your porch looks so pretty. Makes me want to finish building mine all the more. Busy, busy, busy!

  32. I do believe that spring is going to miss us………..5 degrees………..luv your porch! franki

  33. I am so jealous you are able to get to your screened porch! It’s still freezing here. Our screened porch is our favorite “room” in nice weather (we are actually redoing it this season). LOVE that cute tray and LOVE your hutch!

  34. Thanks so much for hosting! It is doing that thing again where I have a permalink, but it says I don’t. I submitted them to you for your approval. Hope you have a great week!
    KC

  35. Love the spring porch, we r decorated with white and a temp of 10 degrees right now, but I have and am enjoying a flock of cardinals. It’s march so we will warm up soon I hope. Mother Earth here in Arkansas is still asleep nothing blooming here. Have a great day Lena in Arkansas

  36. Linda Page says

I wish I had some of your Spring weather. It was in the 70’s on Saturday and I had on shorts. Yesterday, it started raining and dropped to 28 degrees and we had sleeting rain most of the evening. My van was completely frozen up and I could not open the doors when I got ready to leave for work. My Cape Jasmine was in full bloom on the back fence and this will definitely kill all of the beautiful yellow blossoms. This happened to it last year and it never bloomed again all season. Looks like this year will be the same. I love your little porch swing bird feeder. That is just too cute. I think it would be adorable with snacks in it. Perfect for a porch party!! Plus, I love the bunny tray at the beginning of your feature. It is just too cute, too.

  37. We are currently in the middle of a snowstorm. My screened in porch is slowly becoming covered in snow. No spring decorating for a while. I am taking notes for when I can!

  38. Good morning, Susan. It’s so nice to see your porch coming to life again! I love your white pitcher collection. I have to admit, when I first looked at your photos, I thought the daffodils on the table were silk as well!! Their color is so vibrant! Enjoy your week! Rosie

  39. Andrea Campbell says

    Simply charming!

  40. Beautiful hutch and beautiful porch. Wish I could be there now. We have snow on the way today, after such a gorgeous day yesterday, 75 degrees; only in the Tidewater area of VA.

  41. Oh how inviting is that porch! Here in Toronto, it is a beautifully sunny day BUT it is minus 15’C or 5’F. Very Chilly!

  42. Your hutch looks so pretty and I love the swing bird feeder. Sadly, we still have 2 feet of snow on the ground and it was -2 this morning, so I have enjoyed reading about your spring weather…sigh. Have a great week.
    K.

  43. Hi there Susan. Nothing to link up today as I’m still “under construction” with my new blog design but I couldn’t help but stop by to see your porch decor. I know I’ve told you before but I am in love with your porch! I long for a porch where I can curl up with a good book or entertain friends. It is on my list for our next home.

Thanks for sharing and blessings to you,
    Patti

  44. I am so ready for a 70 degree day and time outside. Unfortunately we got more snow today. Your porch looks wonderful. xo Laura

  45. Love that you have “porch dishes”! Your porch is very pretty…throughout the year! What is your Christmas pattern with the tree and bunny? Very cute. I want to decorate our porch but I know I need to wait until after pollen season! Kathy

  46. Redbuds are in bloom? I’m jealous!! Your porch looks fabulous as always. That is a cute bird feeder- maybe you’ll adopt it for the other use and it won’t ever make it outside! I’m about ready to go out with a torch and melt some snow! Can’t wait to see my tulips and daffodils! That was a nice spring gift to give to your friends.

  47. The porch looks gorgeous in all seasons. I love the spring colors.

  48. 70 degrees????? I am so envious, we are still at freezing here. We are off to Florida in two weeks, hope it is better there.
Susan, the bird feeder is cute but I also spied that lovely tray on your table. The porch looks so welcoming, guess I will linger a while and bask in your warmth! 🙂
A question, the wicker table by the window, has it always been there? I never noticed the wooden top before.

    • Thanks, Megan! Yep, that table has been there for several years. I found it antiquing not too long after the porch was added. It was priced at more than I like to pay so I passed it up at first. But it was exactly what I wanted for that space because it was long/oval so I went back a day or two later and bought it.

  49. I have a couple of ideas for the back porch…just as soon as the ice melts and we get a few warm days.:-) Our porch is looking a tad forlorn right now.

  50. Your porch is always delightful!!! And 70 degree weather??? Today it is 9 out there……. No birds, no flowers, no buds on the trees……..and no energy!!! We’ve got a ways to go yet, so thank you for Springy thoughts and photos to keep us hopeful!!!! hugs……

  51. I love the bunny tray and bird feeder! They are both darling. Now if only our weather would cooperate and act like spring… I am so ready to leave this winter behind. Thanks for hosting! PS~ I love that your linky posts are put in random order. That is wonderful for those of us who never remember to join in the minute a party goes “live.” Thank you for that! 🙂

  52. Susan I have always loved your back porch! It looks wonderful. I need to start sprucing our patio up for warmer weather. Thanx for such a great party!

  53. Love your porch! Spring hurry up and come! Thanks for hosting! Take care~Kathy

  54. I am so jealous! Your going to enjoy that lovely porch for weeks to come while we are still shoveling snow here
up north! What a lovely way to greet spring! I just hurried out to my porch with a wool vest on to dump something
in the trash and dashed back inside before I could catch cold. Could not stop to even begin imagining what spring
will be like ( and yet we will spring forward on our clocks this weekend like you will; the difference is it is still very much winter here…boohoo!)
BTW…loved those daffodils blooming on your porch but up here, the blooms in your house, near the bird feeder?
    we call them jonquils!

  55. You always share the most beautiful inspiration, Susan! Thanks so much for hosting!

    Jeanette

  56. Your porch is soooo pretty! Can I come live there? I love the greenish color: it feels so peaceful…..
    Hoping you have a terrific week…. 🙂

Wondering why I like your decorating style so much? Can you analyze it for me? Ha ha

  58. Susan, your porch is always gorgeous – all year round!
    Thanks for hosting!
    love and blessings~

  59. I’ve had a wicked Bob Costas eye syndrome since Friday but am beginning to feel better today. I looked around and thought it is time to put Winter decor away! I am inspired by your Spring decor on the porch and will be decorating for Spring as soon as my eyes let me!

  60. pam ~ crumpety cottage says

Well, we had an ice storm here in Tennessee, so all this talk of Spring sounds pretty foreign. 😀 Still, I’m looking forward to it and I know the trees will be puffed out with leaves in no time. Which is a far cry better than the bent and broken they are at the moment. 🙁

I love! that little swing bird feeder. Like you, I’d be tempted to use it for serving things. Heck, buy another and you can have it both ways. 😉 I swear, I’m going to have to hire you to be my PS and pick up duplicates of all these cute and cozy things you find!

  61. Very Pretty ! Nice to see touches of Spring!
We had 70 Sat., but back to bitter cold, ice, sleet and snow last night and this morning.
    Enjoy your evening.

  62. Lucky you, Susan–to be able to open doors and windows. Friday/Saturday we were expecting up to 12″ of snow!! Fortunately the brunt of the storm missed us, but there was no opening windows and doors! Thanks for hosting! ~Zuni

  63. Thanks for hosting such a lovely link party. Love, love, love your porch. That hutch is beautiful…it reminds me of one I use to have in the late 70’s…early 80’s.

  64. Judith Ann says

What a lovely respite it is to visit your porch and feel reassured that spring will come here to the north someday soon. It is 27 degrees on Cape Cod this morning, and although we used to be the place where duffers could golf all winter long, that is not the case this year. My south facing lawn is covered in snow, we got two more inches yesterday, and it is achingly cold. I’m tired of dressing up for work in layered “Little House on the Prairie” style! Oh well, tomorrow is the start of Lent, and that means spring is on its way!

  65. I am so envious of your porch! We are desperately short on porches here in N. Texas. Thanks for hosting a great party!

  66. A temporary respite is better than nothing at all. Thank you for all your spring inspiration!

  67. I just love your porch. In particular is the greenish cabinet. I had one almost exactly like it in my studio, (my doors were not cut in like yours). It was lost in a fire over a year ago, and seeing your brought back some nice memories. Enjoy your porch!

  68. Christina McCall says

Susan, as all of the above comments say I am in total agreement!!!! I LOVE your enclosed porch. You can do so many wonderful things in that room without getting outside when the weather is too cold or too hot. My next house will definitely have an enclosed porch! Thanks again for all of your beautiful ideas, projects and complete creativity. I have just finished collected about 20 place settings of the salad and dinner plates from Warren Kimble Colonial you featured in your 4th of July post. I am hoping to make a flag plaque once the weather gets warmer. I love that rabbit tray and the Ma maison dishes (they are very hard to find on e-bay) but over time I hope to acquire all that I need. I have kind of a large family, so my thought is when I am truly an empty nester I can have fun themed parties when everyone is home. This year is just collecting and wedding planning. Your blog is my favorite, so I will be staying tuned 🙂

    • Thanks so much, Christina! I love that Warren Kimble pattern, it is definitely one of my favorites! Thankfully it wasn’t as hard to find as soon others, glad you’ve been able to find it, too. The Ma Maison are hard to find…wish they would make it again since so many of my visitors to BNOTP would love to collect some place settings. Ebay and replacements.com are the only placements I know to look for it at this point. Your parties are going to be the BEST! 🙂

      • Christina McCall says

Thanks Susan, you are sweet. I think warmer weather is coming next week. I am looking forward to gardening and browsing through some of our antique stores. You are right, I wished they would have more availability of the Ma Maison. It is such a fun and cheery pattern. I hope to find peices as time goes by.

  69. Sunday WAS such a beautiful day!! The last couple of days have been cold & yucky. 🙁 Hopefully Spring will be back very soon. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your porch & how you have it arranged! Thanks so much for all your wonderful inspiration.

  70. SharonFromMichigan says

Oooh I hope Spring is coming! Southeast Michigan is supposed to reach into the 40’s next week! I can’t wait!! Please let us know when you see your first hummingbird! I was planning on putting out my feeders in March in preparation for them, but it’s still too cold. Please keep posting all your lovely Spring decorations – I surely need the welcomed eye candy!

    • Will do, Sharon! I need to put them out soon. I don’t usually think about it until I see a hummingbird outside flitting around where it normal hangs. They remember! 🙂

  71. Are You kidding me, 70+ and You are waiting for warmer weather? That is called summer in here 😉
Even though it has been very warm winter in here, I think we have to wait until May to get as warm as you have already. I am so, so jealous :-D. Your porch looks very nice!

  72. Penny Moon says

How are you enjoying your screened porch with all the pollen? I live in GA and have a large screened porch. All my furniture, tables, lamps, etc… are covered with drop clothes until the pollen stops!
