Dining Amidst the Tulips and Wisteria:

Welcome to the 89th Tablescape Thursday!

It’s time for Tablescape Thursday! Do you have your passport? What? Well, run go get it because we are jetting off to Switzerland this evening! 🙂 Cornelia has planned a special evening for you…we are all dining in her beautiful garden!

The spring season in Switzerland is running just a few weeks behind our spring here in the southeast.

The tulips and wisteria are in full bloom. Cornelia’s lovely home was built in 1910.

Cornelia has set such a beautiful table for us!

Her garden furniture is French and made by Ferob.

The tablecloth and matching napkins are antique. Since the tablecloth wasn’t quite as long as Cornelia needed, she used two runners from Le Jacquard Français (Meringue) on each end. Cornelia, I love the layering…just adds to the special feel of this tablescape.

The napkins and the tablecloth are both very old. Cornelia’s mother inherited them and then passed them down to her.

What a gorgeous day! Isn’t the lighting beautiful dancing across the table?! It makes you feel as if you are there. I can almost hear the birds chirping in the trees. 🙂

Cornelia told me, “The dishes are all antique, by Jacob Zeidler & Co, made between 1910 and 1917. In 1917 the company was acquired by the ‘Porzellanfabrik Rosenthal A.G.’ also from Selb and from then on was run as the famous Rosenthal ‘Kunstabteilung’ (art department).”

Cornelia continued, “The China has also a history. My mother bought it about 30 years ago in a charity shop. It came from a parsonage where it had been stored in the attic for ages. The whole consists of 10 Soup plates, 10 flat plates, 10 Dessert Plates and 10 Bred plates. There is also a tureen, oval pickle dish, 3 trays in various sizes (one huge), a saucière and 3 vegetable bowls. It is not a very valuable china, but I think it is just the right thing for a spring tablescape. The colours of the flowers match with the wisteria on the table.” It’s absolutely perfect, Cornelia! 🙂

The flatware is silver by Jezler, the pattern is called, Reed. Cornelia said it is no longer being manufactured, unfortunately.

The stemware is ‘Classic Rose’ by Rosenthal, Germany.

The wisteria is so pretty!

The silver vase is by Jezler. Cornelia filled it with the wisteria from the garden. I never realized wisteria has touches of yellow in the blooms. Cornelia, your pics are stunning!

~~~Sigh~~~
Cornelia shared, “The plate under the saucière is silver as well (Jezler).”
Doesn’t saucière sound so much nicer than, gravy boat? I think from now on that’s what I’ll be calling mine. 🙂
You can really see the daintiness of the china pattern in this pic. Isn’t this the perfect china for a spring tablescape out in the garden…especially a garden with tulips and wisteria.
Cornelia said, “The bowl is sterling silver and from England.”
Beautiful!
Cornelia, thank you for sharing your beautiful garden and home! Your tablescape is gorgeous…completely enchanting!
We loved our trip back to Switzerland…even if it’s only in our dreams. 🙂
Looking forward to viewing your beautiful tablescapes!
    How lovely. There is just nothing that compares to china, crystal and silverware that speaks to you as you sit at the table, and this certainly does. I adore wisteria, although I don't have any in my yard. I never thought of using runners if/when the cloth is not large enough – brilliant. It's all amazingly beautiful. Thanks for sharing this post and these pictures are just perfect.
    Hi Susan, What a lovely setting. I feel as though I just stepped into a story book of an enchanting cottage. Everything is breathless, I love the wisteria, I just happened to be on a drive in North Hampton today and saw some beautiful wisteria and then I stop here and see it again. I love the creative idea of using runners when a table cover is not large enough or just to add some more interest to the table. I'm sure I will be back many times to view these pictures again and again.
    susan I just read your glowing comment on my porch post and I can not thank you enough for taking the time to comment in such a lovely way. I really take it as a compliment coming from you. The footstool you asked about was a Big Lots buy for $45 I painted it black and covered it. I made a reference to that post on the porch post if you are interested in seeing the before. It was so not ME,you will see. It is a really heavy stool and well worth $45, it was a steal. Kathysue
