Dining Riverside in the Beautiful Garden of a French Cottage in the Loire Valley

Welcome to the 562nd Tablescape Thursday!

Recently Norma, whose tables I’ve shared here at BNOTP before, had a good friend visit from England. Norma and her hubby live in the Deux-Sevres region near the bottom of the famous Loire Valley, known for its many chateaux.

French Cottage near the River

Norma lives is an adorable French cottage. Norma said, “The building with the blue shutters is our little cottage. It is only small, but big enough for us two. Actually, it is deceptive as it goes right back with a covered part at the back.”

Look at the amazing views surrounding the cottage! And, as if this beautiful view wasn’t enough…

…on the other side of the cottage, Norma has a view of the river. Sooo lovely! This is the stuff of beautiful paintings, isn’t it?

Norma and her hubby love to entertain when friends stop by for a visit. During their friend’s visit, one evening Norma created a wonderful woodland dinner outdoors.

Decorating for a Woodland Dinner in the French Countryside

Norma added sweet surprises to the surrounding Fir hedges: 24 little, white birds. Love this idea!

For this special outdoor dinner, Norma put together a wonderful woodland-themed centerpiece.

Bark-covered, pillar candles look right at home in this nature-themed table.

I love this woodland centerpiece made of logs, pinecones, moss, butterflies and woodland fairies.

Norma set a beautiful table using dinnerware perfect for a woodland table. The hexagonal chargers are hallmarked: Schonwald, Germany. The leaf-patterned plates are from Swinnertons, a well-known factory in Staffordshire, England.

Norma found these pretty butterfly napkin rings on eBay.

They were perfect for this nature-themed tablescape.

Thanks so much to Norma for sharing this wonderful outdoor, woodland table setting. I know Norma’s friends must have felt so special dining here in the garden, surrounded by so much natural beauty! Truly a dream experience in every way!

  1. Susan, thank you for sharing Norma’s beautiful woodland table in an idyllic setting! So lovely…

Isn’t it wonderful that beautiful tablescaping is an international affair and translates to any language! BEAUTIFUL, Norma!

  3. Snowflake281 says

Wow! The outdoor setting totally makes this tablescape but even if this setting was indoors it would still convey that outdoor feeling. I really love the idea of using good china and pairing it up with totally opposite rustic elements.

  4. That was an ethereal tablescape…luv at first site!! franki

  5. Perfection! I love seeing anything Norma does!

  6. Stephanie says

Hi, I recent purchased the packable wide bow sun hat. My ribbon does not lay flat on hat. Is yours the same way?

  7. Sherry B says

The cottage, the centerpiece, the view, all so beautiful. I would love to have an occasion to create such a rustic and lovely table. Thank you and your friend Norma for sharing.

Stunning! Some people have more than their share of creativity. And luck, living in such a beautiful area. I wish we could eat outside without getting eaten ourselves (mosquitoes).

I LOVE that you share other people’s tablescapes (and host Tablescape Thursday). You’re a really special person.

    • Thanks, Barb! Appreciate those kind words!
Let me recommend a product I just purchased a week ago for my grandchildren at the local market. It came highly recommended by another customer in the store. It’s called Medella Naturals, All Natural Deet Free Insect and Mosquito Repellent. I purchased the 4 oz size. We’ve used it almost every day playing out in the backyard and I’m amazed how full the bottle still is, so it only takes a very light mist to repel mosquitoes. None of us have been bitten while using it…don’t even see the mosquitoes around us. You can see it here: https://amzn.to/2NseqLw . Also, it smells nice…very light scent. I’m definitely buying some to keep at home.

  9. That was great! Love her little chateaux! The table was set beautifully for the setting!

  10. The location, the setting, the views, the tablescape…all jaw-dropping. Thanks Norma!

Lovely table setting, home and view, – lucky guests. Thank you Norma.

Thanks Susan for the tip on the mosquito spray, just ordered some. I ordered the 2 oz. So I can carry in my purse for outdoor events away from home. Also, I like that it is safe for pets. I’ll let you know how it works for us.

  12. Thanks Susan, and Norma! Beautiful outdoor table!

  13. Thank you so much for sharing. So very charming and beautiful. -Brenda-

  14. Lovely view. Nice tablescape too.
